My Wishlist: Jane Austen

Hi all! And welcome to another installment of my Wish list!

Today, I wanted to talk about historical romance literature based on Jane Austen novels that are being remade into scifi fantasy romances…

There has been an uprising on these book titles that now include vampires, zombies and more. . .

Are they the new rage? I don’t know but I will let you be the judge after you check out a few of fantasy works of arts novels I have added to my wish list or just recently read.

Please let me know what you think about these choices and/or have you read them?

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Jane Austen, Seth Grahame-Smith
Pub. Date: April 2009
-320pp
Book info: Goodreads

So begins Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, an expanded edition of the beloved Jane Austen novel featuring all-new scenes of bone-crunching zombie mayhem. As our story opens, a mysterious plague has fallen upon the quiet English village of Meryton — and the dead are returning to life! Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet is determined to wipe out the zombie menace, but she’s soon distracted by the arrival of the haughty and arrogant Mr. Darcy. What ensues is a delightful comedy of manners with plenty of civilized sparring between the two young lovers — and even more violent sparring on the blood-soaked battlefield. Can Elizabeth vanquish the spawn of Satan? And overcome the social prejudices of the class-conscious landed gentry? Complete with romance, heartbreak, swordfights, cannibalism, and thousands of rotting corpses, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies transforms a masterpiece of world
literature into something you’d actually want to listen to.

Jane Bites Back by Michael Thomas Ford
Pub. Date: December 2009
320pp
Book Info: Goodreads

Two hundred years after her death, Jane Austen is still surrounded by the literature she loves—but now it’s because she’s the owner of Flyleaf Books in a sleepy college town in Upstate New York. Every day she watches her novels fly off the shelves—along with dozens of unauthorized sequels, spin-offs, and adaptations. Jane may be undead, but her books have taken on a life of their own.

To make matters worse, the manuscript she finished just before being turned into a vampire has been rejected by publishers—116 times. Jane longs to let the world know who she is, but when a sudden twist of fate thrusts her back into the spotlight, she must hide her real identity—and fend off a dark man from her past while juggling two modern suitors. Will the inimitable Jane Austen be able to keep her cool in this comedy of manners, or will she show everyone what a woman with a sharp wit and an even sharper set of fangs can do?

Mr. Darcy, Vampyre by Amanda Grange
Pub. Date: August 2009
320pp
Book Info: Goodreads

Mr. Darcy, Vampyre starts where Pride and Prejudice ends and introduces a dark family curse so perfectly that the result is a delightfully thrilling, spine-chilling, breathtaking read. A dark, poignant and visionary continuation of Austen’s beloved story, this tale is full of danger, darkness and immortal love.

So what do you all think about today’s choices? Of the three, I have only read Jane Bites Back, a definitely must read novel. I only checked out JBB from my local library but hopefully plan to get my own copy soon. I have not read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies or Mr. Darcy, Vamprye yet they are both on my ever expanding TBR pile.

Do you enjoy these new twist to the classic Jane Austen novels?
