Book Blurb:

For two years, Catherine Marks has been a paid companion to the Hathaway sisters–a pleasant position, with one caveat. Her charges’ older brother, Leo Hathaway, is thoroughly exasperating. Cat can hardly believe that their constant arguing could mask a mutual attraction. But when one quarrel ends in a sudden kiss, Cat is shocked at her powerful response–and even more so when Leo proposes a dangerous liaison.
Leo must marry and produce an heir within a year to save his family home. Catherine’s respectable demeanor hides a secret that would utterly destroy her. But to Leo, Cat is intriguing and infernally tempting, even to a man resolved never to love again. The danger Cat tried to outrun is about to separate them forever–unless two wary lovers can find a way to banish the shadows and give in to their desires…

My Thoughts:

Let me get this straight…this was a wonderful read! Ok now that I’ve said it, I can elaborate. I started reading Lisa Kleypas historical romances only very recently, about 6 months ago, and now I am truly addicted. Married By Morning is the 4th book in the Hathaway series which follows the life of the Hathaway siblings. This is Leo’s story and oh boy how excited I was to read his book.
We’ve seen Leo in the previous books and I would encourage everybody to read them before starting this one. There’s a lot of background story you would miss otherwise. I’ve always loved Leo’s humor. He’s witty, funny and he is a complete rake. He has a rather cynical view of the world and of himself.
In the previous books, the family hired a governess, Catherine, to help the younger sisters learn Etiquette.Since the first time they met it’s been explosive between Cat and Leo. Catherine is very ‘proper’ and Leo stands for everything she despises in a man. On his hand, Leo finds her too strict and cannot resist poking and trying to get a rise out of the poor governess. It was always very amusing to see them ‘fight’. At the end of Seduce Me At Sunrise, we are left wondering what happened between the 2 of them on a previous meeting. There’s some mystery about Catherine, and Leo will do anything to learn the truth about her.
Somehow after reading the synopsis and an excerpt on the author’s website (I can’t stress enough how EVIL I find excerpts!), I jumped to conclusions *cough*as always*cough* about what this book would be about… I was pleasantly surprised though. This book is hilarious, I laughed a LOT, there was a lot of LOL, ROFL and LMAO involved…I think all of these together would describe how funny I found this book. I think I should tease you a little bit:

Blushing, Catherine went to a pile of sketches and scraps at the corner of the table. She straightened them into a neat stack. ‘Did I hurt you?’ She managed to ask, recalling how she had inadvertently pushed on his wounded shoulder. ‘Does it ache this morning?”’

Leo hesitated before replying. ‘No, it eventually eased after you left. But the devil know it wouldn’t take much to start up again”.

Catherine was overcome with remorse. ‘I’m sorry. Should we put a poultice on it?’

‘A poultice?’ he repeated blankly. ‘Oh my…oh. We’re talking about my shoulder?’

I also often giggled and smiled at Dodger, the ferret! He’s one of Beatrix’s pets (the youngest Hathaway) and he’s been the bane of Catherine’s life…along with Leo. Dodger loves to steal her garters and she’s often running after him to get her things back. He’s cute and you can’t help but smile at his playful nature.
The love scenes between them were scorching hot and very tastefully done. Leo is a wicked man and I’m not the only one saying it:

She swallowed by a moan.

‘Ask,’ came his coaxing whisper.

‘Please.’

Leo kissed her thigh, his mouth soft and hot, his bristle an exciting scrape against the tender skin. ‘Please what?’

Wicked man. She squirmed and covered her face with her hands, even though they were in complete darkness. Her voice was muffled by the screen of her fingers. ‘Please pet me there.’

By the end of the book I had teary eyes and aching cheeks from smiling so much. They fell for each other without knowing it…*happy sigh*. What is wonderful with Lisa Kleypas‘ series is that you get to see the characters you loved in the previous book. I’ve become quite attached to them and Lisa Kleypas is feeding my addiction with tidbits of their life with each new book.
The only thing I was a little disappointed about is Catherine’s past…sadly I’ve read a book only a month ago where the heroine had the same mysterious past. But you can’t blame an author for not being 100% original…and those 2 books were probably written at the same time.
I’m absolutely addicted to her books and now every historical romance I read is compared to my Lisa Kleypas standard. She set the bar very high, I think I’m spoiled for any other authors now. I cannot wait for the last book in this series, Beatrix’s story, Love In the Afternoon, which will be released on June 29, 2010. I am eagerly awaiting this book but in the same time I don’t want this series to end…it will be very hard to say goodbye to all these characters I fell in love with. *teary eyes* Of course I’m not crying, I had something in my eyes that’s all!

I give Married by Morning 5 bookies

OMG I think I need this book alone for that:

‘Oh my…oh. We’re talking about my shoulder?’

I love it. Sounds like a wonderful read but as I see it I will be addicted as soon as I start one of her books. As if I need another addiction. *le sigh*
