Today, we are very happy to welcome author Eve Langlais on Book Lovers Inc.  Eve’s new book Crazy was released on November 22nd. Let’s give a warm welcome to Eve who will tell us all about how she likes her vampires! Stay tune and you might win a copy of Crazy!  Welcome Eve.

Unrepentant Blood Suckers

I’ve noticed a trend in paranormal romance that I’m not sure I enjoy; the tendency to make vampires lament their state of being. To fight their natural instinct to drink human blood because they think it’s morally wrong. Just look at Stefan from Vampire Diaries. Up until recently in the show, he refused to partake of human blood even though it made him weak and unable to protect his love interest properly. Damon, his brother, on the other hand relishes the taste and doesn’t make any bones about it. Personally, I like Damon’s attitude better.

A vampire shouldn’t, in my mind, be a wishy-washy wuss who’s always going on and on about how he hates himself and what he has to do to survive. Screw that. Give me a dark and dangerous vampire. One who glories in his state and makes no excuses for what he is. That’s the vampire I fall in love with.
I have to wonder though at the number of soul searching vamps we see nowadays in literature. Is it an attempt to make the bad boy of the night seem more human and approachable? Are these evil creatures only acceptable if they are capable of remorse and reforming their actions? I don’t think a vampire’s diet affects how he can feel about someone. Although, his first interest in a human woman might not be dating but more how he can convince her to let him give her a holey-hickey. But vampires, just like human men who first check out our assets, will eventually–if they don’t kill us first–look past the exterior package to the person inside. And then, no matter their edible preferences, love can bloom. Or at the very least some hot sex will ensue.
Now as you might have guessed, my vampires are unrepentant blood suckers. Heck, I’ve equated their feeding from humans as no different than humans partaking of cows and other meats. I’m sure that shocks some readers, but, I’ve tried to stay away from the emotionally challenged vampire in favor of the one who embraces his state of being.
In my newest story Crazy, Zane–a delicious vampire–makes no bones about the fact he drinks blood. Here let me tease you with a blurb.

Ella hears voices and they don’t like anyone.

Institutionalized at a young age after the breakup of her parents, Ella’s always heard voices. Even worse, the voices in her head like to act. She thinks she’s crazy and destined to be a patient for life until the night she meets a vampire and for the first time in her life, the voices shut up.

Zane just wants to enjoy his usual blood buffet, instead he runs into a wisp of a woman who makes him feel emotions he thought long dead. Rescuing her from the insane asylum, he brings her home, determined to assuage his lust; a plan that is foiled by ghostly voices more determined to keep her pure than a steel welded chastity belt.

Together they discover Ella might not be as crazy as everyone thinks, but even as they discover her innate power, someone from her past wants to hurt her. Will crazy and undead prevail against covetous evil? And most important of all, will the voices ever allow them to indulge in the desire that consumes them?

    This book sounds awesome!

I have to agree with Eve. A vampire should be dangerous, sexy, and not afraid to be what he is.

I agree the book sounds great! I like my Vampires to be a little disturbed, sexy, and have that I am what I am attitude, like me or don't cause I don' really care.

FINALLY, a vampire book with a real vampire! I have to admit I was starting to get sick of the whiny, depressive, almost girly vampires in modern fiction. He doesn’t drink blood, he hates himself for who he is, he falls so deeply in love but he’s too scared to act on it even when the woman shows him the same love back in return (what is he? Five?). He’s a vamp after all which means he can’t fall in love bla blab bla. . . I have to admit that when the idea of a good vampire first came out I used to love that concept but it has become such a cliché. I would love to read your book and see how you broke that mold.

LOL, apparently I'm not the only one tired of vamps hating themselves. Personally, I like stories where the bad guy is the hero. What can I say, wishy-washy, doesn't do much for me. 🙂

I prefer them to like being a vampire and not making any excuses for wanting, lusting or whatever-ing. They should be cocky cause they have been there done that and are pretty badass. I do like it when they meet their match in a human female and have a hard time adjusting . Your book sounds like a great read.

I like the dark, dangerous, sexy, and badass vampires. The ones who are confident and, like some of the others here said, don't hate themselves for being what they are!

Thanks for the giveaway. I like a vampire who is strong, who has a soul and will protect the ones he loves. A vampire who is very handsome. Please enter me in contest. Tore923@aol.com

I like my vampire with a bit of mystery and a bit tormented. However this torment is what makes him trustworthy, protective, and loving. But when he really need to be he can be strong and a bit scary.

I get pretty impatient with vamps that don't want to drink blood – that just comes off as whiny. We all have things we don't like about ourselves – it's how you deal with it that counts. On the other hand, I don't like it when a vamp has to kill to get enough. I'm fine with drinking some blood, but not to the point of death.

The book sounds good. I'd love to win it.

I've come to love vampires as the heroes. Not totally evil, nor good, they are the ultimate bad boys.

Loved the book cover! And I agree with Eve, i hate vampires who are unhappy with they state -DIE EDWARD!…cof…cof… sorry-, but i don't like vampires who drinks lots of blood, killing people and something like that. That is the why i Loved the vampire race in J.R Ward and Lara Adrian books 😀
    Thanks for the giveaway! 😀

Vampires should not sparkle, but should lure women to their crypt and do very bad things to them!

    Sounds good!

I also like vampires who accept what they are and like to drink blood 😉 It's interesting and more fun than the ones who hates themselves xD

  • natalie23 December 10, 2010 at 9:02 am

I like the kind of vampire who is not totally evil, or good, they drink human blood but don't kill.
They have to have a sort of moral ambiguity, they have morals, just not the same as humans.

  • Eve Langlais December 10, 2010 at 9:29 am

LOL, I am loving reading the comments. Looks like I'm not the only blood thirsty one 🙂 My vampire in Crazy is not a human killer, but not out of a sense of morality–but I can't reveal why it's best to let the humans live, you'll have to find out for your self. ;p

  • Hannah Kincade December 11, 2010 at 7:10 pm

I'm in it to win it! LOL! hkgirl16@gmail.com.
