Interview with a Vampire Writer by Kate Pearce + Giveaway

Filed in Blogoversary , Giveaways , Guest Post , Kate Pearce , The Geeky Lover Posted on January 20, 2011 @ 12:00 pm 48 comments
The Book Lovers are still enjoying their free time but luckily Kate Pearce agreed to share something with us today. It’s a secret transcription of a very special meeting. Stay tuned till the end and answer the question for your chance to win.

Lord Christopher Ellis and Lady Rosalind Llewellyn are staring at their creator who is slumped over her desk chewing jelly beans and muttering to herself.

Christopher nudges Rosalind. “Is she always like this? So…deranged?”
Rosalind studies the writer. “Nay, she is usually much worse. Sometimes she swings around in her chair or leaps to her feet, and starts talking to herself and pulling faces.” Rosalind lowers her voice. “Sometimes she even borrows her daughter’s dollies and arranges them in interesting positions.”

“Now, that I would like to see.” Christopher’s blue eyes brighten and Rosalind elbows him in the ribs.
“We’re here on a more important matter. Don’t you remember? Did you read those reviews on amazon and on all those websites?”
“You made me read them, although I could make but little sense of the language.” Christopher frowns. “And what in God’s blood does LOL mean or HFN or HEA? And what about all the stars, and cups and lips and roses they award? It makes no sense at all.”
Rosalind peers at the writer again. “That’s why we need to talk to her.” She clears her throat. “My lady?”

The writer jumps and stares right at Rosalind. Her mouth drops open and she blinks rapidly. “It’s finally happened, I’ve gone completely nuts.”
Rosalind smiles tentatively. “No my lady, ‘tis but a bit of Druid magic. We wanted to talk to you, so we passed through the stones and here we are!”
“You wanted to talk to me?”
“Aye.” Christopher interrupted. “We want to know what happens to us.”
“To you?”
“Aye,” Christopher repeated. “You left us in a very delicate position at the end of the first book, and I want to know your intentions.” He glances at Rosalind and then at the Writer. “Those folks on that amazon, and other places don’t like it either, do they?”
The Writer sighs and rubs her cheek. “I know, I didn’t reckon on that. To me your story was always going to finish at the end of book two.”
“It will finish?” Rosalind demanded. “We die?”
“I can’t tell you that! It would spoil the whole book!”
Rosalind aimed her dagger at the writer’s heart. “You can tell us. I swear we won’t reveal your secrets to anyone else. Am I going to end up with this oaf or not?”
Christopher makes a derisive noise and Rosalind glares at him. The writer smiles and sighs happily into Christopher’s blue eyes.
“You really are quite beautiful, you know, Christopher. Those eyes…”
Rosalind steps closer to the Writer and deliberately clears her throat. “My lady?”
“Oh, of course!” The Writer blushes and straightens the pens on her desk. “It’s a romance novel. Of course you get a happy ending, but only after surviving great peril.”
Christopher grins down at Rosalind. “I’ll probably save your life. You’ll be begging me to marry you then.”
“Um, something like that.” The Writer studies her purple socks. “But you’ll be very happy, I assure you.”
“Hmm…” Rosalind puts her dagger away and allows Christopher to take her hand. “Then what happens in book three?”
“Ah, your fellow Vampire hunter, Rhys Williams will take up the story then.”
“Rhys?” Christopher asked. “That lovelorn fool?”
The Writer looks quite dreamy for a moment. “He won’t be lacking love for long…”

    Hilarious post Kate!

In honor of the Tudor setting of your books, I will choose Elizabeth I.

I would ask her if she had any regrets. She surpassed her father as a ruler and is known to be the bringer of the Golden Age. I would want to know if she was satisfied with her accomplishments.

I use my books as a form of escapism. My whole family has died. I am alone. Through grief I pulled away from everyone & lose myself in my books. My hero was my MOM. If I could have 1 more hour with her to ask how to reach out to REAL people that's what I would want. I can't so I will remain with my friends in books…I look for my HEA through reading.

Hello, Kate! It's so much fun for readers when an author enjoys toying with her characters : ) I love historical romance, and my favorite era is the American Old West. I would love to meet actor Sam Elliott and tell him how much I have enjoyed his work in film and television, and his commercial voice-overs. Sam Elliott is the love of my life, and he has no peer as a Western star! As I’ve said many times, his voice alone makes all the seams in your clothes come loose : ) One of my favorite words is “courtly”, which to me means respectful and mannerly. Who could resist a courtly cowboy, hat in hand, when he says “thank you, Ma’am”? A lady journalist who was once lucky enough to interview Sam Elliott described him as “courtly”. I knew that : ) Whenever you see photos of Sam with his wife and daughter out in public, he always has his arms around them in the manner of a true protector. Sam seems to personify the best qualities of a western hero both on and off the screen!

  • blhhughes@yahoo.com January 20, 2011 at 2:35 pm

I would have to say Henry VIII. I would want to see for myself if he was as truly as hot as JRM portrays him to be. I would use a little Druid magic on him so that he would "do as I command". He would be slave to my every whim…personal and practical.. What would I ask him? I would ask him if he could truly think for himself? He relied on the reports of too many to do his bidding. Of course I would surely meet the same fate of Ann Boleyn and Catherine Howard!

  • Danielle Gorman January 20, 2011 at 2:39 pm

Hmmm….I don't know. I would probably be in total fangirl mode don't know if I would be able to form coherent words. I think I would just want to know how is life is going now that he isn't the focus of a story.

    Fictional hero:
I'd tell Sparky from Laura Bickle's Anya/Sparky series he's the best! (in fact I think I already told him 😉 )

    Historical hero/person:
I'd tell Tsar Nicholas II to run off to a tropical island and become a painter! Boy, was he talented, he really should have become an artist, but no…. he had to become Tsar and get shot.

  • Julie T January 20, 2011 at 3:10 pm

Hi Kate! I just wanted to say I love your book and can't wait till next week!!!

In the land of fiction I would love to meet Dexter and just give him a long hard hug. Also Sawyer from Lost and have him call me Jules or Blondie (after I dye my hair of course) with that sparkle in his eyes.

Now I'm shocked xD Of course I had had previous knowledge about Tudors, but I just learnt about them today on History lessons, so it was a real subrise to read this post and the reviews of the books on Kate Pearce's site.

So if I met Cat from Night Huntress, I would ask her to drink something with me and talk about Bones xD And I would be interested in every little detail about him xD I know that Bones is her husban, but hearing things about him (or reading things) is plenty enough for me =)
    Thanks for the giveaway =)

Well after I got off the floor from a overly dramatic swoon I would say something intelligent like "Arffupha?".

Is petting allowed? Perhaps that would be my question 🙂

  • Kate Pearce January 20, 2011 at 6:50 pm

Thanks for having me-or should I say my characters on the blog today. it was fun 🙂

I once spent an hour in a line to meet Diana Gabaldon and I spent the whole time trying to think of something different and fresh to tell her how much she had inspired me to start writing again. By the time I came face to face with her all I could manage was "hello nice to meet you."
I kicked myself for days afterwards LOL

  • Alexa January 20, 2011 at 6:51 pm

Well that certainly was entertaining to read. If I met my favorite male hero I have no clue what I would say. I probably would just keep staring at him although Vishous isn't exactly fond of that. But honestly who wouldn't just want to look at him all day! 🙂

Thanks for the great giveaway I have been really wanting to get this book.

  • Teril January 20, 2011 at 7:16 pm

Well I would pant and be speechless for a moment then ask if I could jump at them and they could catch me because well he would be super strong and could totally catch me up upon where I could swoon back. Ah if only right? Then we would chat over some coffee and take some great pics and wave goodbye while romantic music played in the background.

One of my favorite literary characters is Harold-Mage Vanyel from Mercedes Lacky's The Last Harold-Mage series. I'd like to thank him for showing me that one can start over, even with love.

  • LSUReader January 20, 2011 at 9:06 pm

I'd love to meet both Scarlett O'Hara and Rhett Butler and see how they progressed after the "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn" scene.

  • Sara January 21, 2011 at 5:59 am

I would like to meet any of the members of the Black Dagger Brotherhood (by J.R. Ward) and ask "…..Guh, ummmm, errr…bite me?" 😉

  • Marianna January 21, 2011 at 7:19 am

Knowing me I would probably choke on my own tongue before I actually succeeded in asking or telling them anything. I would just be watching them from afar…in a sadly creepy manner. And who wants to be creepy in front of a hero? lol

Great post! I swoon over this cover every time I see it – it's just so gorgeous!! As for who I would want to meet: I'd love to meet Roarke from JD Robb's series and just have him talk to me about anything in that sexy Irish accent of his 🙂

Unfortunately, I know exactly what would happen. If I was in the presence of any of my book boyfriends (Bones, Curran, Roarke, the list goes on), I'd either be speechless, or I'd say something totally inane like "Hey, how are you?". It's a normal human reaction to sheer perfection.

I'd probably be speechless and trying hard not to make a fool of myself. However, I would most likely stutter out how much I admire that person. Then later I would think up all the things I wanted to say but blanked out on at the time.
