Today, our travel inspiration comes from my reading of Nightshade by Andrea Cremer. In the book, Calla and her wolf pack are in the Vail, Colorado area, with a new pack about to be created further up into the mountains.
And that’s basically what I think of, too. Mountains, snow, skiing, and drinking hot cocoa by a fireplace. In fact, it’s hard to think of this region without the accompanying snow….but there are the warmer months, when the wilder, greener side emerges. I’m personally not much for skiing, but would be more than happy to taken in the stunning views along with that fireplace scene.
Let’s pretend this is me. I’ve tried skiing but usually do it from more
of a sitting position 😀
Does this not look like a perfect moon over Vail to encourage
thoughts of werewolves? (Andrea Cremer’s version aren’t
“were’s” but I couldn’t resist.)
The beauty of the lights reflecting off the snow would
almost make it worth battling the cold.
The thing about Vail is that it is “New World” built with “Old World”
charm, giving off impressions of Swiss chalets, etc.
The majestic mountains would be something to wake up to, right?
This could just as easily be a scene from a centuries old
building in Europe, I think.
Though it is an established, civilized area…
…nature’s savage appeal still commands attention.
And here’s where you’d find me at the end of a busy day (watching people) on
the slopes. I’d have a hot drink and a good book ready at hand.
Vail is one of those places that seems to be a popular spot for the rich and famous, too. Its modern amenities and natural beauty would be a fantastic draw, being more readily available to North American residents for a quick skiing trip than, for instance, the Swiss Alps would be. What do you think? Would there be a comparison or is Vail widely different from European cities centred around winter sports?

OMG ! This is just so beautiful! Just a couple of days back, I was googling for Colorado pictures..and here we are 🙂
Thanks sooo much!! Now, off to gather my muse and get writing!
This is such an awesome idea! I never imagined Vail being so beautiful! It's breathtaking.
It is absolutely beautiful! I've never been there, probably never will but just seeing those pictures sure made my day.
I'm just jealously enjoying the snow, amid our 100-degree Texas days! Thanks for a "cool" (couldn't resist) column.
Wow….this looks like paradise. Beach-side retreats are great, but there's definitely soemthing to be said for the mountains. Simply gorgeous.
What gorgeous and scenic views! I'm inspired to visit and when I read about stories set in Colorado this is what I will envision. I'm a visual person and I love seeing pictures that brings a story even more to life.
Vail is way better than ANY European ski town.
<–lives in Colorado 😉
@Ju – I'm glad I could help 😉
@Casey – Breathtaking but cold, lol. Hopefully nothing a nice cup of hot cocoa couldn't fix though.
@Diane – Not sure I'll ever make it there either, but we can imagine…
@LSU – I hear ya! In July here (Ontario), we wish for snow, then curse it when it comes :-p Glad you liked the pics.
@Alisha – The perfect life would include both kinds of getaways, right?
@Na – I find it so hard to imagine, living in such a level place. The pics truly help the imagination 🙂
@heidenkind – Thanks for your totally unbiased opinion, lol. We believe you 😉
