Today we are happy to welcome to BLI debut author Cassi Carver, whose steamy urban fantasy/PNR novel Slayer’s Kiss hits the virtual shelves today! Slayer’s Kiss is the first in a new original series and besides the feisty kickass heroine and the nail biting action it has more than enough eyecandy, primarily due to the two gorgeous heroes! So please give a warm welcome to Cassi and join us spending this year’s Valentine’s day in the best company: your own favourite fictional heroes! 😀

Spend Valentine’s Day With Your Hottest Heroes

by Cassi Carver

I’m so excited to spend my Valentine’s Day with fellow readers here at Book Lovers Inc.! Today, my spicy urban fantasy, Slayer’s Kiss, officially releases! Having my release fall on Valentine’s Day has got me thinking about heroes—masculine, swoon-worthy, hotter-than-molten-lava heroes. You see, Slayer’s Kiss has not just one, but two men vying for the love of the heroine, Kara Reed.

I’ve heard some authors talk about writing solely for themselves, but for me, my greatest joy so far has been sharing my story with others and getting those early reviews back. Hearing my characters discussed as though they are real people is probably the greatest honor I could receive. One thing that has been fun is people’s different reactions to Kara’s two suitors, Gavin and Julian.

Some love Gavin. He’s the self-less leader of the clan. He cares for Kara, but puts his feelings second to his duties. Some love Julian. He’s passionate and won’t let a little thing like clan law get in the way of his love for Kara. Both men have noble attributes and short-comings, but from what I’ve seen so far, readers are identifying more strongly with one or the other and sticking to their guns.

Because their preferred hero is different in every case, it’s caused me to think deeply on heroes in general and what we look for in the men who burn up the pages of our books. Do you prefer the brooding, responsible duke who needs the love of a good woman to bring him out of his shell? Or do you prefer the rake—the uninhibited man who pursues pleasure at any cost? What about the wounded warrior who needs to be set free or the intellectual who needs to experience a life lived with passion? There’s no right or wrong answer, but who we identify with may say something about what we look for and admire in a man. What about you? What makes a hero jump from the page and capture your heart?

On this special Valentine’s Day, I thought I’d share with you some of my all-time favorite heroes from romance and urban fantasy, and I’d like to hear yours, too! If you would like to be entered to win one of three digital copies of Slayer’s Kiss, simply comment and tell us who your ideal fictional Valentine’s date would be…

Here are a few of mine: (In no particular order. I can’t play favorites with my book boyfriends!)

– Eric from Charlaine Harris’s Sookie Stackhouse series

– Bones from Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress series

– Flynn from Cara McKenna’s Willing Victim

– Layne from Adrian Phoenix’s Hoodoo series

– Dimitri from Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy series

– Gabriel from Christine Cody’s Bloodlands series

– Gavin and Julian from Cassi Carver’s Shadow Slayers series (Can’t leave out my two favorite boys!)

Okay, I’d better stop there! Given the awesome books I’ve read, I could go on and on…

So who would your ideal Valentine’s date be if you were between the pages of a steamy read?

Cassi lives in sunny Southern California with two dogs, four kids, and a hubby who gives great massages. She goes to the Gaslamp for research (okay, happy hour) as often as possible. She has never saved the world, but she keeps sexy boots on hand just in case the opportunity arises.

Slayer’s Kiss

The Shadow Slayers, Book 1

Kara Reed is a supernatural failure. But where her magic falls short, her fists get the job done. The criminal element doesn’t stand a chance once she hits San Diego’s dark streets.

When two smoking-hot tenants move in next door, she thinks her love life might finally be heating up. Just being near Gavin and Julian is enough to make her want to offer her body on a platter.

Gavin and Julian know it’s only a matter of time before the truth comes out. They’re fallen angels sent to watch over the king’s daughter, one of the last females of her kind. Trouble is, she doesn’t seem to think she needs watching—unless they’re watching her shimmy out of her clothes.

No matter how tempting her guardians, Kara’s not about to let anything stop her from tracking down a sadistic killer who carves into his victims and leaves them for dead. Even when she realizes her target may be the very scourge of heaven from which her angels swore to protect her…

Easy – I love a brave and intelligent guy so it has to be Four from Divergent!

    • Cassi Carver February 14, 2012 at 12:03 pm

How could I have missed a hunk of manhood like Four? I’ll have to look him up immediately! Have a great Valentine’s Day!

  • Tamsyn February 14, 2012 at 10:09 am

My ideal Valentine’s date would be Alec Kincade in The Bride by Judy Garwood. Just love a Scots in kilt!

    • Cassi Carver February 14, 2012 at 12:06 pm

Whoo! Love a man with strong thighs in a kilt! Good choice!

  • Georgie Lee February 14, 2012 at 10:36 am

Mine would be in England somewhere on an estate. The end of the 2005 version of Pride and Prejudice where Darcy and Elizabeth are sitting on his patio enjoying a quiet evening would be perfect for me.

    • Cassi Carver February 14, 2012 at 12:13 pm

Hi, Georgie! That’s one estate that’s as swoon-worthy as the hero! (And that’s one of my favorite movies, by the way.) Thanks for stopping by!

  • erinf1 February 14, 2012 at 11:02 am

Thanks for a great post and giveaway! I’d have to say that I’d love Tom from Ruthie Knox’s Ride with Me. Just finished it last night and it’s a very romantic, intense contemporary romance. He’s tall, dark and handsome. Has a six pack and loves the outdoors and… ahem… knows his way about the bedroom 😉

    • Cassi Carver February 14, 2012 at 12:15 pm

Hi, Erin! I recognize you from your adorable avatar! (Is that your puppy?) I’ve heard so many good things about Ride With Me that I’m going to have to add it to my TBR list! Thanks for stopping by! 🙂

  • Linda Thomas-Sundstrom February 14, 2012 at 11:58 am

Cassi – Though I write nothin’ but paranormals, and love those supernatural dudes, right now my fav hero is on TV. Yes, I admit it! I watch TV? Raylan Giviens on the series Justified is terrific. Nothing like urban fantasy, I’m afraid, but hey – a hero! The actor is Timothy O from the old Deadwood series. Va-va- voom. That man knows how to wear a cowboy hat!
Cowboy hats are lacking from urban fantasy, right? Still, Raylan is worth a mention… as a Valentine’s Day hottie.

    Happy V day!
    Linda

  • Cassi Carver February 14, 2012 at 12:18 pm

Hi, Linda! That does it. You know what I’m getting for Valentine’s Day? Season One of Justified. It is such a fan favorite that it kills me I’ve never seen it. I’m writing myself a note…right..now. Done! Thanks for stopping by!

  • Jen B. February 14, 2012 at 6:50 pm

Dirty book boyfriend? I think I would probably choose Trevor and Edgard from Rough, Raw and Ready by Lorelie James. Sorry, I couldn’t pick just one!

    • Cassi Carver February 14, 2012 at 8:37 pm

Cool, Jen! I haven’t read it but I’ve heard great things about it! 🙂

  • Elaine G February 14, 2012 at 9:45 pm

    This book sounds really good.
From paranormal books I’d pick Bones.from erotic books I’d pick Buck from Lissa Matthews’ Sweet Caroline.

    • Cassi Carver February 15, 2012 at 12:05 pm

Go, Bones! I love a devoted husband! I haven’t read sweet Caroline, but I bet it’s great! Thanks for commenting, Elaine!

  • Angela M February 14, 2012 at 10:21 pm

Sheesh! I can’t pick one (hehe, I read too much–almost). Let me leave it at a type: definitely the dark, brooding type. The more they’ve suffered, the better. This is why my favs are paranormals or the hardcore suspense heroes. Maybe it’s that they overcome such gigantic barriers to be able to accept love.

    • Cassi Carver February 15, 2012 at 12:06 pm

Good point, Angela! Why pick one when there are so many amazing novels out there with heroes waiting to be discovered! 🙂

  • Filia Oktarina February 15, 2012 at 5:39 am

My ideal Valentine’s date would be Raphael, Archangel from Guild Hunter series’s Nalini Singh. I want date with angel…;))

    • Cassi Carver February 15, 2012 at 12:07 pm

Hi, Filia! I’ve heard so many wonderful things about Nalini Singh’s archangel series! I started the other one, but I can’t wait to get to the angels!

  • Cristina C. February 15, 2012 at 5:40 am

There a too many to pick but, my favs are the ones that are quiet and ‘have a past’. For some reason it make me want to have the heroine get them more. 🙂

    • Cassi Carver February 15, 2012 at 12:09 pm

I agree, Cristina! You love those quiet, tortured heroes who need the love of a good woman to help them overcome the past, huh? I can’t get enough of those dark, brooding alphas. 🙂

  • sienny February 15, 2012 at 7:11 am

i just can’t choose, every one of them are my ideal date when i’m reading the book >__<

    • Cassi Carver February 15, 2012 at 12:10 pm

That’s a good problem to have, Sienny! To many book boyfriends must mean each book is a new adventure for you! Have fun reading and thanks for stopping by!

  • Victoria Zumbrum February 15, 2012 at 9:26 am

It would have to be Edward from Twilight. I think he is really hot. Tore923@aol.com

    • Cassi Carver February 15, 2012 at 12:12 pm

Oh, Edward. One of our favorite all-time heroes. I’m glad he got a vote today! Thanks for commenting, Victoria!

  • DANIELA February 15, 2012 at 10:07 pm

    Hi
If I have to choose someone from a book it would be Bones from the Night Huntress series. If I can pick someone from a TV show it will be Damon from the Vampire Diaries.
    Thanks for this giveaway!

  • Chris Marie Green/Christine Cody February 15, 2012 at 11:56 pm

Cassi, thank you so much for including Gabriel! I can’t wait to read (and love) your heroes!

I have a total thing for Robb in GAME OF THRONES. Not Book Robb, because he’s much too young. Series Robb is the man!

  • bn100 February 16, 2012 at 3:09 am

I enjoyed your post. The book sounds very good. I would say Sebastian from Devil in Winter.

  • Sariah February 16, 2012 at 7:35 pm

I would have to say Hank from Charlie Madigan series, Ethan from Chicagoland Vampires series, Bones from Night Huntress series…..the list can go on and on. This book sounds amazing. Thanks for the chance.

  • Rachel Vessar February 16, 2012 at 11:08 pm

I would like Adrian from Vampire Academy.

  • Pamk February 18, 2012 at 2:56 pm

I’d love to have a valentines date with Crispin aka Bones from Jeannine Frost’s grave books.
