Riveted (Iron Seas, #3)
by Meljean Brook

Genre: steampunk romance
Release date: September 4, 2012 by Berkley Trade

A century after a devastating volcanic eruption forced Iceland’s inhabitants to abandon its shores, the island has become enshrouded in legend. Fishermen tell tales of giant trolls guarding the land and of seductive witches who steal men’s hearts. But the truth behind the legends is mechanical, not magic—and the mystery of the island a matter of life and death for a community of women who once spilled noble blood to secure their freedom.

Five years ago, Annika unwittingly endangered that secret, but her sister Källa took the blame and was exiled. Now Annika serves on the airship Phatéon, flying from port to port in search of her sister and longing to return home…but that home is threatened when expedition leader David Kentewess comes aboard.

Determined to solve the mystery of his own origin, David will stop at nothing to expose Annika’s secrets. But when disaster strikes, leaving David and Annika stranded on a glacier and pursued by a madman, their very survival depends on keeping the heat rising between them—and generating lots of steam…

. . .

Good heavens, ain’t it just the best to make a brand new book find that gets your excitement levels sky high? Sure, there’s the much awaited Riveted by Meljean Brook; the inevitably awesome Archangel’s Storm by Nalini Singh; the newest book from Ann Agguire, Outpost. But when I read the blurb for In a Fix by Linda Grimes, first in a new urban fantasy series, I knew I had to have it immediately. Now, time will tell whether the actual story lives up to the advert for the book.

This week was actually pretty heavy on new releases, but the list above represents a distilled account of what’s new. The newest installment of Beth Kery’s serial is out (woop, woop!), and there are quite a few young adult titles to keep an eye on. And authors like Jocelynn Drake and Heather Graham have e-book only stort stories coming out today. If there’s something on this list that you’ve been anticipating, definitely give em a shoutout.

. . .

So, what’s got you ready to make an unscheduled trip to the bookstore? Have you ever read a book description for a new-to-you title and just KNOWN, immediately, that it would be a favorite book? (And were you right, in the end?)

I wanted An Apple for the Creature….until I saw how damn expensive it was. Bloody hardcovers.

What kind of bullshit pricing system expects me to pay hardcover rates when all I want is the ebook?

These anthologies are always way overpriced, either as “real” books or ebooks. Since they’re basically just advertising to hook us into new series/authors, or keep us sated ’til our favorite authors come out with a full-lenght book, I think the price should be discounted rather than jacked up. I’ll probably get this sometime down the road, but I’d already decided I was going to wait. The Andrews team said their short would be released as an ebook standalone in the not-too-distant future, and that’s the one I was most interested in. . . despite the fact that it’s Julie-centric and I really dislike Julie.

Omigosh! So many good books out this week. I totally forgot about the October Daye book ’til it showed up on the Kindle. Along w/ an Iron Druid short. Yay. There are some others on your list that I’m going to have to check out.

You know, I can’t think of any unknown reads that I KNEW would be wonderful, and then turned out to be just that. That’s not to say it hasn’t happened, but that I’m senile and just can’t remember. Unfortunately, there have been plenty of times when I was terribly disappointed and remember quite vividly. Life’s just kinda like that.

Wow, what a great list of new books. Some have been pre-ordered, some are still on my wishlist. I try not to start my new books with too much anticipation, as it will always make me disappointed. But sometimes a book just blows me away. Like Jean Johnson – A soldier’s duty. Totally not what I was expecting, but just sooo good.
