Full Blooded (Jessica McClain, #1)
by Amanda Carlson

Genre: urban fantasy
Release date: September 11, 2012 by Orbit

Born the only female in an all male race, Jessica McClain isn’t just different—she’s feared.

After living in hiding for the last twenty-six years, Jessica wakes up to find she’s become a full-blooded werewolf — claws, fangs, fur, everything. It was never supposed to happen: female werewolves don’t exist.

When a mercenary killer comes looking for her, her Pack finds themselves caught in the middle of a war. They must rise up to protect her, but no one knows if she’s means the end of their race-or just a new beginning.

Last week’s cadre of book releases was all about expectations. Hard not to have any when one has been eagerly anticipating a release for weeks, months, or even years. Every so often, though, we get to come across books that defy expectation or assumption. Books that are hard to quantify before reading (and perhaps even after). This week features a handful of titles (YA, no less) that, on first impression, seem highly original and promising.

The book description for Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan is a head scratcher, for sure…in a good way. The protagonist is in love…with the voice in her head. o.O I’ll stop there and let you check out the synopsis yourself. Talk about a wild idea. I hope it turns out to be an amazing, unique, special book. And from early buzz from bloggers, it seems to be just that.

The White Forest by Adam McOmber sounds like it’s going to be a memorable read, one way or another. I simply don’t know what to expect. Is it paranormal? Gothic? Fantasy? Historical? All or none of the above? Only one way find out, I suppose. ^_^

Find a new treat, or finally going to get your hands on an awaited book? What’s the last read that pleasantly surprised OR unexpectedly disappointed you?

I have to stop buying new authors, so for now, just the new JD Robb book please.

It’s still pretty amazing to me that Robb’s series is still fresh and popular, 35 books in. Haven’t read any yet, but it’s definitely promising to hear that the latest is a “buy ASAP” book. Hope you enjoy!

I read the first 10 In Death books. But then I had to stop. Because it was always the same. damn. story.

Loved Full Blooded guys. 🙂 And there are several new ones I’ve missed here. Thanks for the list.

I just finally read Divergent and must say that book pleasantly surprised me. I had feared it would be just the gazillionth YA where the love triangle is more important than the story, but luckily that was not the case.
