Today we are happy to welcome to Book Lovers Anna Scarlett, whose latest novel Degrees of Wrong was recently released by Samhain. Anna thought you couldn’t get a better first taste of the story than by meeting the hero and heroine, so please give a warm welcome to Dr. Elyse Morgan and ship captain Nicoli Marek, and read on for an exclusive interview just for you!

Anna Scarlett: Elyse, what was your first impression of Nicoli?

ELYSE: You mean besides the one my cheek made on his chest when I crashed into him? *thinks for a second* I thought he was going to save me from Lt. Horan’s idiotic grasp. Nicoli knew I wasn’t really a cadet. But nooooo. He even let him punish me!

NICOLI: This is what I knew: You were acting as a cadet for your protection. I couldn’t figure out why the hell you would cause such a disturbance and disrespect one of my officers in the process. And I also couldn’t allow it.

ELYSE: Yes, that’s what you keep saying. Didn’t it occur to you that maybe I needed protection from Lt. Horan? Have you seen the man?

NICOLI: You got in his face, remember?

ELYSE: Well, anyway, my first impression of Nicoli was the opposite of good.

Anna Scarlett: Nicoli, how did it make you feel that Elyse’s help had been enlisted to find the cure to the HTN4 virus?

NICOLI: Surely you can understand why I doubted her. So many of her older, more experienced colleagues hadn’t been able to even develop a hope for finding it. Elyse is 24 years old. Ow! You didn’t let me finish!

ELYSE: You really should know by now when I’m going to pinch you.

NICOLI: You usually wait until I’m done.

ELYSE: I never said that. “As often as needed” is what we talked about. Now, you were saying?

NICOLI: Something about how, after to getting to know you, you seemed much more mature than your age. Glad you corrected me just now.

ELYSE: Oh yes please, let’s talk about maturity. You’re only 29! Mister I-broke-a-china-pitcher-over-my-brother’s-head. Mister Let’s-race-the-transport-pods. Mister—

NICOLI: Next question, please?

Anna Scarlett: Um. Okay. What’s next for you two?

ELYSE: Well, obviously, we need to find out more about Dr. Folsom’s whole situation.

NICOLI: The UOC is looking into that. Let them do their job. They’re quite capable of—

ELYSE: And we need to find a wife for Nicoli’s brother, too.

NICOLI: Like hell we do.

ELYSE: We’ll talk about it later.

NICOLI: Negative. And don’t even think about pinching me again.

ELYSE: *pouts* But he’s lonely.

NICOLI: He’s a man-whore. Man-whores don’t get lonely.

ELYSE: They may not be alone, but certainly they get lonely.

NICOLI: Here we go…

Degrees of Wrong by Anna Scarlett

This time, the straight-and-narrow path could be the road to ruin.

Dr. Elyse Morgan’s mission: find the cure to the HTN4 virus. The compensation, courtesy of the United Nations: a lab stocked with hi-tech goodies, limitless resources and enough chocolate to make her rear look like a cellulite farm. Bonus: she gets to live. Rescued (kidnapped) and secreted (imprisoned) on an undersea warship, Elyse adjusts to her assumed identity as a cadet with the finesse of a toeless ballerina. Her sulfuric temper and blatant insubordination capture the unwanted attention of the ship’s captain, the gorgeous, infuriating, engaged Nicoli Marek. Elyse would rather perform her own autopsy than become the other woman, but Nicoli—who’s as full of himself as he is of secrets—regards his impending marriage as a mere political transaction. And Elyse as fair game. As Elyse’s suspicions about the UN’s true agenda mount along with her attraction to the relentless, chronically shirtless captain, she must choose between the murky path to everything she’s ever wanted, or the squeaky-clean path of self-sacrifice—which could mean taking the secrets of the virus with her to the grave. Warning: Features a strong, chocolate-loving heroine who takes no prisoners on the way to saving the world from an epidemic and winning a captain’s heart.

Anna Scarlett’s primary goal is to entertain smart, funny gals like herself. She wrties adult romance as Anna Scarlett, and young adult romance under Anna Banks (YA author of OF POSEIDON). You can expect her works to be centered around a love story, freckled with humor, and seasoned with sarcasm.

Anna grew up in a small town called Niceville (yes, really) in the Florida Panhandle. She now lives with her husband and daughter close to her hometown. The youngest of seven children, she was spoiled beyond comprehension growing up. Before she started writing, Anna worked as a banker and a waitress. She loves old movies, fried chicken, and Simon Cowell, but loathes exercise, licorice, and haters.

Sounds like a great book I can’t wait to read it. My favorite bickering book couple would have to be Benedict and Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing

Although I love many bickering couples from classic romances, my favorite is a modern day couple: Jane Jameson and Gabriel Nightengale from Molly Harper’s Nice Girls series. They are hysterical, sweet and seriously hot. And of course, congrats on Degrees of Wrong! I absolutely can’t wait to read it!

I really love Katy and Daemon from the Lux series. They can bicker like no other. And of course Elyse and Nicoli are perfect in their bickering.
