Welcome to this week’s news post! For this week’s issue there is news from Patricia Briggs’ upcoming anthology which will focus on the side characters from the Mercy Thompson and Alpha and Omega series, the BBC who will be teaming up with a well known children’s authors for a new Doctor Who e-serial and more author news and snippets.

I think this news item made my week! The BBC announced this week that they will be working with well known children’s author and the current rumours are strongly hinting that it could be J.K Rowling, although there are other authors are in the running such as Philip Pullman, Alan Garner as well as others. Because this year will herald the 50th anniversary of the Time Lord’s adventures in space and time this venture will part of the commorative celebration of Doctor Who. There will be eleven e shorts, with each story focusing on a different incarnation of the Doctor.

The first author  will be announced online on January the 7th via the BBC Worldwide Facebook page, along with the short which will be published online on the 27th of January. And in November the paperback with all the stories will be published by Puffin books which the special episodes of Doctor Who will air around the same time.

A blogger called Melanie Neeson has vowed to read all 131 books from the original The Babysitter’s Club books. At her blog, Beauty and the Armageddon, she made a New Year’s resolution to read the entire original series and hopes that other readers and bloggers will follow as part of a reading challenge. She also states if she does manage to read the whole series she states “ My plan is to stick with the books pertaining to the main members of the club and only shoot for the spin-off series if I’m incredibly crazy.”

Patricia Briggs’ assistant Ann has posted some fantastic tidbits on an anthology which will focus on the supporting characters from the Alpha and Omega and Mercy Thompson series. Confirmed new stories focusing on the characters, Tad, Ben, Tom and Moira (who appeared in a previous short as well as in Hunting Ground) and two Ari and Sam stories. Previous published short stories should also be compiled as part of the anthology and this will hopefully be published at the end of the year. Ann also added that the main plan is that Patty is aiming for two books a year. For more info and hints about these stories check out the link here.

News in Brief:

Sylvia Day has posted a special scene  in Christian’s POV  over the holidays as part of a present for fans who are waiting for the 3rd Crossfire book – Entwined with you.

Ilona Andrews has also given  a goodie this past week with a cut extract that was deleted from Magic Rises which features a kidnapping involving Saiman that doesn’t go to plan – you can check them out here and here. Here is part one and the 2nd part of the extract.

I know we have fans of J.R Ward here, and she has posted a fabulous teaser of a kiss between Blay and Qhuinn who will be the focus of her next BDB book Lover at Large ,over the holidays on her Facebook page.

And now books to watch out for!

I am seeing a lot more horror tinged romances/YA’s at the moment and I really like the look of this book Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea, which has an interesting premise.

You stop fearing the devil when you’re holding his hand…

Nothing much exciting rolls through Violet White’s sleepy, seaside town…until River West comes along. River rents the guesthouse behind Violet’s crumbling estate, and as eerie, grim things start to happen, Violet begins to wonder about the boy living in her backyard. Is River just a crooked-smiling liar with pretty eyes and a mysterious past? Or could he be something more? Violet’s grandmother always warned her about the Devil, but she never said he could be a dark-haired boy who takes naps in the sun, who likes coffee, who kisses you in a cemetery…who makes you want to kiss back. Violet’s already so knee-deep in love, she can’t see straight. And that’s just how River likes it.

Blending faded decadence and the thrilling dread of gothic horror, April Genevieve Tucholke weaves a dreamy, twisting contemporary romance, as gorgeously told as it is terrifying—a debut to watch.

I think I am on a horror kick because this also caught my eye and pinged my radar and reminds me of Ilsa J. Bick’s chilling Ashes series. In the After by Demitria Lunetta.

They hear the most silent of footsteps.
They are faster than anything you’ve ever seen.
And They won’t stop chasing you…until you are dead.

Amy is watching TV when it happens, when the world is attacked by Them. These vile creatures are rapidly devouring mankind. Most of the population is overtaken, but Amy manages to escape—and even rescue “Baby,” a toddler left behind in the chaos. Marooned in Amy’s house, the girls do everything they can to survive—and avoid Them at all costs.

After years of hiding, they are miraculously rescued and taken to New Hope, a colony of survivors living in a former government research compound. While at first the colony seems like a dream with plenty of food, safety, and shelter, New Hope slowly reveals that it is far from ideal. And Amy soon realizes that unless things change, she’ll lose Baby—and much more.

Rebellious, courageous, and tender, this unforgettable duo will have you on the edge of your seat as you tear through the pulse-pounding narrow escapes and horrifying twists of fate in this thrilling debut from author Demitria Lunetta.

And finally we have the cover and blurb for the 3rd Half Light City book – Iron Kin by M.J Scott. I have this series in my wishlist but I think after looking at this blurb and cover I better get in my tbr pile!

Imagine a city divided. Fae and human mages on one side, vampire Blood Lords and shape-shifting Beast Kind on the other. Between these supernatural forces stands a peace treaty that threatens to shatter at the slightest provocation….

I was raised to do the right thing. But to my family that means staying safe behind the walls of human society. To be a respectable metalmage and never put myself at risk. But the treaty is faltering. And if it fails, nothing is safe. To help save the city and everyone I care about, I will use whatever means I can to ensure the negotiations to renew the treaty are successful—even if that means forging an alliance with a man who is the very opposite of the right thing….

Fen is trouble. Wild. He would rather bind himself in iron and drink himself into oblivion than learn to master the visions that come to him. Those visions might just hold the key to peace, and it seems that my power might hold the key to his control—if I can keep it around him….

So have any of you set up a reading challenge and do you think you will be able to complete it? Would it be a huge glomfest like this blogger is committing to or something different?  And what author would you like to write a Doctor Who story?

I TOTALLY set myself a reading challenge. And met it.

I read a romance from cover to cover. 🙂

Now I am vowing to read and review all the books I was able to con out of NetGalley so I don’t get any more bloody rejections from stupid publishers who don’t understand that I CAN’T WAIT.
