Description:

Dawn of Eden by Julie Kagawa

Before The Immortal Rules, there was the Red Lung, a relentless virus determined to take out all in its path. For Kylie, the miracle of her survival is also her burden-as a doctor at one of the clinics for the infected, she is forced to witness endless suffering. What’s worse, strange things are happening to the remains of the dead, and by the time she befriends Ben Archer, she’s beginning to wonder if a global pandemic is the least of her problems….

Thistle & Thorne by Ann Aguirre

After a catastrophic spill turns the country into a vast chemical wasteland, those who could afford it retreated to fortresses, self-contained communities run by powerful corporations. But for Mari Thistle, life on the outside-in the Red Zone-is a constant struggle. To protect her family, Mari teams up with the mysterious Thorne Goodman. Together, they’ll face an evil plot in both the underworld of the Red Zone and the society inside the fortresses that could destroy those on the outside…for good.

Sun Storm by Karen Duvall

Sarah Daggot has been chasing storms since she was a child. But after the biggest solar flares in history nearly destroy the planet, she becomes a Kinetic, endowed by her exposure to extreme radiation with the power to sense coming storms-in the cosmos and beyond. And she’s not the only one. Sarah believes the Kinetics are destined to join forces and halt the final onslaught of the sun. She’ll vow to keep trying to convince the one missing link in their chain of defense, the enigmatic Ian Matthews, up until the world ends.

Know this, dear book lovers: this week’s list is pared down quite a fair bit, for the safety of your internet cache and the protection of your wallet. ^_^ There always seems to be that one week every couple of months that has an alignment of numerous books in one’s readerly stars. There is a fair number of historical romance titles this week, including those from HR heavyhitters like Teresa Medeiros and Sarah MacLean.

And speaking of heavy hitters, Danielle Steele (yep, that one) is releasing a romance (but of course!) about fate, destiny, and love across the ages, centered around two different couples in seemingly different (yet ultimately similar) worlds.

Want some more speculative in your fiction at the moment? Cassandra Rose Clarke’s new book The Mad Scientist’s Daughter sounds like a pretty intense (and potentially heartbreaking, aw) story of artificial life, identity, and acceptance. And Marie Lu brings Prodigy, the followup her her popular dystopian release of 2011 (Legend). And to further the post-apocalyptic/dystopian themes, there’s the featured title ‘Til the World Ends, an anthology from three names sure to get your notice: Julie Kagawa, Ann Aguirre, and Dianne Duvall. Each of those three stories sounds absolutely gripping (especially to rid yourself of any excess warm-fuzzies), so I’d definitely recommend checking it out.

. . .

Find something that’s got you opening your virtual wallet? ^_^ Do you keep a specific book budget?

I have the Yasmine Galenorn and Sarah MacLean on its way to my home. And there will for sure be more, but can’t think of the titles at the moment.

I’m waiting for my copy of Til the World Ends to arrive. And you didn’t mention Between by Kerry Schafer! That released yesterday as well and I’m eagerly awaiting the arrival of that as well.

    What’s a book budget?

If I had a book budget, this week would have busted it. I have 7 books off this list and 1 on my wish list (the Fukuda). Plus my other purchases.
