Hey Everyone!

Lately I’ve been on a special romance sub-genre kick: devouring sport romances!

I’m sure that you have come across one of those stories where the hero and/or heroine are athletes, and while I have always enjoyed reading about sexy hunks as heroes, lately I’ve discovered this new addiction of mine. Be it sexy football player like Dean Silverthorne in Candis Terry’s Any Given Christmas, or the hunky hockey players like those in Lily Harlem’s Hot Ice series or Rachel Gibson’s Chinooks Hockey Team series, the irresistibly gorgeous soccer captain in Scored by Lily Harlem or star pitcher Park Jones in Nora Roberts’ Rules of the Game (the very first sporty hero I’ve read about), I love them all!

I’m not a sport fanatic, when the Olympics, European or World Cup football (soccer) matches are on I enjoy watching them but besides these most important games I don’t really follow them. And still I am addicted to sport romances. So what makes sport romances appeal to us readers who may not even be big sport fans? Well I think that besides the shallower reason (that the heroes are all big, muscled and strong), there is also the subconscious reason that these athlete characters are the best in what they do. They are serious (when it comes to sport), dedicated, focused and passionate. And that sure makes any character irresistible to me 😉

Thankfully it seems I’m not the only one with my obsession, er I mean appreciation for sport romances as I keep seeing them everywhere (even two recent Entangled titles also featured athlete heroes: an irresistible baseball player in J. Lynn’s Tempting the Player, and a sexy football player in Karen Erickson’s Game for Marriage).

So with 4 sports romance gobbled up last week I compiled all the sport romances I have read, and did some Goodreads research and, be still my heart, came upon all these long lists:

Sports Romances

Romances with athlete hero/heroine

and now by sport categories:

Baseball Romances

American Football Romances

English Football (Soccer) Romances

Car Racing Romances

Hockey Romances

Hockey Romances 2

Erotic Hockey Romances

Miscellaneous Sports Romances

So I guess they will keep me busy for some time 😉 lol

So do tell me,

Do you like to read sport romances? And why is that?

Do you have a favourite sport you like to read about?

And besides the books, do you enjoy watching/talking sports or your appreciation is limited to sexy athletes? 😉

Any great sport romances you could recommend?

I do read them, but I do not like when they are too heavy on sports cos frankly as a non US person american football and baseball bores me

I agree Blodeuedd, I’m always lost when it’s a baseball story, not knowing anything about the sport. With American football I can follow up even if there are things I don’t understand. Same with hockey: don’t know the sport but LOVE reading about hockey player heroes 😀

Not my favorite genre, because sports doesn’t really interest me and I don’t know nothing about sports 😛
but recently I have read Just For Now by Rosalind James, sports romance about Rugby, and it made me curious about this sports 😀

I know Izz, weird since I don’t watch sport either and know nothing about the rules and still I LOVE reading about athlete heroes 😀

Thanks for the recommendation, will check it out!

I love sports romances and the first ones I read was Deirdre Martin’s Blades series.

If I read a sports romance, it is accidental, and for me, just the heroes profession. Hmm, what can I remember? Icehockey teams with shapeshifters, so fun paranormal romance, by Shelley Laurenston. Recommended by my best friend, I read one about a bear shifter. I did like it.

I hate watching sports (everything we as kids were watching had to stop, when my father got home and there was some kind of sports somewhere). I hate the amount of crazy dutch fans go to, making everything orange, or red/white/blue.
