Around The Bookish World: Week-In-Review

Welcome to this week’s news post, in this edition we have news for more potential HBO projects for G.R.R Martin and a bit of a departure for Danielle Steel as well as our usual books to watch out for!

Horror author, James Herbert  sadly passed away this week at the age of of 69. His works has influenced other authors and has sold over 50 million copies which included books, The Rat, Haunted and Fluke. He also recently published his latest book, Ash which came out last week.

Romance novelist, Danielle Steel has announced she will be writing an illustrated Children’s book, which is a huge departure from her previous books and genre. The book which is entitled Pretty Minnie in Paris which follows the antics of a chihuahua in the French city. The press release also states: “Steel has one passion that her fans might not know about—her love for dogs. Pretty Minnie in Paris is inspired by the adventures of Steel’s own teacup Chihuahua, and her love of Paris—where she resides part of the year. Steel’s picture book tells the stylish tale of a fashionable Parisian pup out on the town … Steel lives in San Francisco and Paris, which inspired many of the scenes in Pretty Minnie in Paris.” I have to admit this sounds cute and a bit campy!

George RR Martin has recently signed a production deal with HBO to produce another series, but in another interview with IGN – Martin has stated that HBO is looking into a prequel series to Game of Thrones which does seem to hint that this could be one of the projects in development. Martin has also stated: “Well, I have been writing for a number of years a series of novellas set in the same world, the world of Westeros, but a hundred years earlier, about two characters called Dunk and Egg. And I published three of those novellas, The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword, and The Mystery Knight, and I have in mind about nine or ten more novellas about the adventures of Dunk and Egg.

So we have been playing with the idea of doing those as prequels. They would be prequels, in a sense, they’re a hundred years earlier but in the same world. They’re somewhat lighter in tone than the main series, a little more adventurous. But my fans love them and I love the two characters too, and it all ties into Westeros history. So maybe that will be what we’ll do.”

News in Brief:

Nalini Singh has posted the blurb to the next Guild Hunter book- Archangel’s Legion  which is slated for October.

Shailene Woodley has been cast as the female lead in John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars

More YA movie adaptation – it looks like things are going ahead for the adaptation for Daughter of Smoke and Bone which is penned by Laini Taylor. Hollywood scriptwriter (Tomorrow When the War Began and 30 Days of Night) will be penning the script.

Now for books to watch out for!

I am a huge fan of Larissa Ione and this new series is definitely setting my book senses a’tingling!

The first installment in a sexy new paranormal romance series by Larissa Ione, author of the bestselling Demonica series!

Nicole Martin was only eight years old when she narrowly survived a massacre: her family’s vampire slaves rebelled and killed everyone in her household. Twenty years later, Nicole now dedicates herself to finding a vaccine against vampirism…and eradicating the gruesome memories that give her nightmares.

Riker, a member of the wild vampire Moon Clan, is haunted by his own demons—his wife Lorraine had been captured and enslaved by the Martin family. It was during a botched escape attempt that she was killed, along with their unborn child. Still wracked with grief and anger, Riker is now fueled solely by the desire to rescue vampire slaves…and slaughter their owners.

When Riker stumbles upon Nicole in a chance meeting, he immediately recognizes her as a member of the Martin family that once enslaved his wife—and she recognizes him as the wild vampire she saw kissing a pregnant slave in the moments before her violent death—an image that has haunted her dreams for years.

When Riker kidnaps Nicole and they spend a night together in a cave on the way back to his clan, suddenly they begin to realize that they aren’t as different from one another as they may have thought—and they’re finding themselves drawn to one another…

Styx the 23rd Dark Hunter book – which is another huge book in the long running series is slated for later this year. It will also heavily feature and overlap Acheron’s book.

Just when you thought doomsday was over…

Centuries ago Acheron saved the human race by imprisoning an ancient evil bent on absolute destruction. Now that evil has been unleashed and it is out for revenge.

As the twin to Acheron, Styxx hasn’t always been on his brother’s side. They’ve spent more centuries going at each other’s throats than protecting their backs. Now Styxx has a chance to prove his loyalty to his brother, but only if he’s willing to trade his life and future for Acheron’s.

The Atlantean goddess of Wrath and Misery, Bethany was born to right wrongs. But it was never a task she relished. Until now. She owes Acheron a debt that she vows to repay, no matter what it takes. He will join their fellow gods in hell and nothing is going to stop her.

But things are never what they seem, and Acheron is no longer the last of his line. Styxx and Acheron must put aside their past and learn to trust each other or more will suffer.

Yet it’s hard to risk your own life for someone who once tried to take yours, even when it’s your own twin, and when loyalties are skewed and no one can be trusted, not even yourself, how do you find a way back from the darkness that wants to consume the entire world? One that wants to start by devouring your very soul?

And finally – I so cannot wait for this book! Ann Aguirre unveiled the cover for the new Jax Sirintha series spin-off, Perdition – which is slated for August 27th!

WELCOME TO HELL

The prison ship Perdition, a floating city where the Conglomerate’s most dangerous criminals are confined for life, orbits endlessly around a barren asteroid.

Life inside is even more bleak. Hailed as the Dread Queen, inmate Dresdemona “Dred” Devos controls one of Perdition’s six territories, bordered on both sides by would-be kings eager to challenge her claim. Keeping them at bay requires constant vigilance, as well as a steady influx of new recruits to replace the fallen. Survival is a constant battle, and death is the only escape.

Of the newest convicts, only one is worth Dred’s attention. The mercenary Jael, with his deadly gaze and attitude, may be the most dangerous criminal onboard. His combat skill could give her the edge she needs, if he doesn’t betray her first. Unfortunately, that’s what he does best. Winning Jael’s allegiance will be a challenge, but failure could be worse than death…

So what do you think of the new writing ventures and projects coming from G.R.R Martin and Danielle Steel?

I will leave you with this fun crossover of Game of Thrones and The Princess Bride.
