Guestpost: My Most Embarrassing Musical Moment by Aubrie Dionne + Giveaway

We are very happy to welcome author Aubrie Dionne here at Book Lovers Inc today. Aubrie is not only a writer, she’s also a very musical person and plays and teaches the flute. Her newest release, Playing the Maestro is a contemporary tale about musicians and their entanglements. Today Aubrie will tell us an embarrassing story about herself. Make sure to tell us about one of yours in the comments to win your own copy.

Playing the Maestro starts out with Melody’s most embarrassing musical moment, and something I’ve always feared- not having your music on the first day of rehearsal. In fact, sometimes I check to make sure I have my music two or three times before I leave the house! In Playing the Maestro, the violinist, A.K.A. Melody’s ex claims he sent her the music and she lost it. See- he has a sister who …

Around The Bookish World: Week-In-Review

Welcome to this week’s news post and it has been pretty eventful with the news of the DOJ greenlighting the merger between Random House and Penguin, an award for best critical reviewer of the year as well much more news!

I am horrified to see that Amazon is investigating after claims and video footage by a German channel that says that the conglomerate warehouses hired a security firm called Hess. They found out that the security guards are affiliated with a neo nazi group and were harassing immigrant workers in warehouses in Germany. There have been  previous claims in the past about warehouse conditions for workers in the US which were awful but to see that that a group like this is guarding let alone abusing and intimidating people like this makes me question on whether I should support a company like Amazon.

The DOJ has allowed the proposed merger of Random House …

Around the Bookish World: Week-In-Review

Welcome to this week’s news post and it is has been an eventful week with news of more lawsuits over 50 Shades infringement, Random House new Digital imprints, and more book news!

Random House has announced they will soon be launching three digital imprints called Alibi (Mystery and Suspense), Flirt (New Adult) and Hydra (Scifi and Fantasy) which will join their sister imprint, Loveswept (Romance).  Random House is also on the search for self published authors who are willing to submit their books to these imprints, which is not surprising because quite a few authors have been recently picked up by major publishers via self publishing platforms. But Random House is not the only big publisher expanding in digital imprint, HarperCollins, Penguin and Simon and Schuster have all released or will be starting their own lines. More information on submissions can be found here.

Simon and Schuster have entered …

Sunday Cravings

Hello Book Lovers everywhere in the world! How was your weekend? Ready to start sharing our Sunday Cravings for this week? It seems like November is a pretty busy month, so for yet another week there are quite a few titles being scheduled for release from many different genres.

So, let’s start 🙂

Caro and Marlene: Cold Days by Jim Butcher

HARRY DRESDEN LIVES!!!

After being murdered by a mystery assailant, navigating his way through the realm between life and death, and being brought back to the mortal world, Harry realizes that maybe death wasn’t all that bad. Because he is no longer Harry Dresden, Chicago’s only professional wizard.

He is now Harry Dresden, Winter Knight to Mab, the Queen of Air and Darkness. After Harry had no choice but to swear his fealty, Mab wasn’t about to let something as petty as death steal away the prize she had sought …

The Good, the Bad and the Are-You-Kidding-Me? Cover Quiz + Giveaway

Welcome to our new edition of The Good, the Bad and the Are-You-Kidding-Me? This week we have a Game for you! Since you enjoyed the last game we played, we thought we could come up with something fun but different. Last time there was only 1 good answer for each question, but this time we’ll give room to YOUR knowledge of covers. You can answer with the covers YOU know, in whichever genre you want. The game is simple… We tell you a requirement (a thing, an animal, an object, a word in the title…) and you have to come up with a book cover that fits the bill. Of course that alone would be too easy 😉 So you can earn more points depending on the level of difficulty.

What can you Win?
Prize is a 15$ book depo shopping spree.

How to play?
Below you can find 17 challenges. Each …

Explore This! Australia

It’s been about two years since we visited the land down under, and, way back when,  we only looked at the outback. This time, we’ll take a tour throughout Australia and see what it has to offer us 🙂

I was inspired to revisit this country after reading Scot Gardner’s The Dead I Know. While the book doesn’t feature any named parts of Australia, it is where the author lives and is a good guess that it’s where the story takes place. Let’s have a look and see more of this beautiful place:

Lucky Shag Bar.

The Narrows Bridge in Perth.

Brisbane Botanical Gardens

The Gold Coast.

At Surfers’ Paradise in Queensland

The Sydney Opera House.

Wave Rock.

Kata Tjuta.

I hope I have done Australia proud in choosing these pics. There were so …

The International Giveaways Café (54)

Hello all and welcome to today’s “it’s stinkin’ hot out there” edition of the café. Today, I’d love to hear your strategies for keeping cool and finding time to read. Is the nice weather too distracting to read or just the right atmosphere to knock off the TBR that much quicker?

And, remember to let us know if you’ve won anything recently; the Book Lovers would love to hear! At Book Lovers Inc., it’s our pleasure to share the bookish love! Good luck to everyone and hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Explore This!: San Diego, California

Welcome to today’ special edition of Explore This! While The Geeky Lover and The HEA Lover are out of town, I snagged their time slot…though we do miss them when they’re gone 🙂

And it’s thanks to a recommendation from The Rocket Lover that I’m whisking you off to San Diego, California; it’s the setting for the book Night Walker by Lisa Kessler. From what I hear the Mission de Alcala plays a large role in the story, but we’ll take a tour all around the city. Okay, I’ll admit, I focused a bit more on the water and the beach. I’m feeling a bit beach bummy 😉

Ah, how I would love to be on one of those boats!

The Coronado Bridge

The Gaslamp Quarters.

Balboa Park.

A lovely shoreline vista.

Explore This!: New Zealand

I have to admit, I know very little about New Zealand. What I have experienced has been through friends’ travel photos, which were stunning. In fact, in searching for images, I found more often than not, the pictures were from either sites offering desktop backgrounds or on travel sites. Why? Because New Zealand has to be one of those perfect blends of lowlands and mountains, land and water that is pure fodder for photographers! Let’s take a look and see for ourselves:

Anaura Bay, Gisborne

Waves at the North Island.

A little wine with our tour perhaps?

A lovely panorama.

I can just imagine the view from this cable car!

There's a secluded beauty about this road through the mountains.

Nature at its best.

Can you tell this is one of those wallpapers …
