Book Blurb:

Fire up your love of romance with Montana Rose, where Cassie Griffin, a seemingly spoiled pregnant woman, is widowed one day and wedded the next. Marrying handyman Red Dawson seems the only alternative to Cassie’s being hitched to a brutal rancher. But can this “china doll” bear exchanging smooth silk for coarse calico? Red was reluctant to be yoked to an unbeliever, but sometimes a man has no choice. Will Red change Cassie’s heart by changing her name? Wade Sawyer is obsessed with saving Cassie from a marriage of convenience. How far will he go make her his own?

My Thoughts:

Montana Rose starts off with a bang… literally. Cassie Griffin is getting ready to bury her husband. The young pregnant widow is considered a great catch to many of the cowboys and other men in her town. Cassie is overcome with grief and has no idea how to channel it, yet she manages to take some of it out on unsuspecting Red Dawson. Things are getting even more dire for Cassie when a ruthless man, Mort Sawyer,* arrives to “claim” Cassie as his.

*review break*

Mort’s a dirty old man for wanting to get his hands on a young woman like Cassie.
Eww!

*review continued*

Then the man Cassie least expected sweeps her off her feet, proposes marriage and gets hitched all in one day. Red and Cassie are each not what they seem to the other.

Slowly Cassie and Red fall in love but first Red has to make sure what she is feeling is the real thing and not some kind of a submissive waiting for her master’s permission to do his bidding. Although it was kind of funny that there was a moment when Red enjoyed the way Cassie went out of being herself to obey him.

Where there is good, there are also bad parts as well. There are lots of painful beatings, jealousy and plain evil men in this book. I cringe at the way some of the characters had to deal with their suffering.

Montana Rose starts off fast paced and exciting however the action slows down, yet it doesn’t make it any less entertaining. I enjoyed the trials and tribulations Cassie goes through to become the woman she always was meant to be.

Ms. Connealy manages to include not only the main characters PoV (Cassie and Griffin) but also some of the other more memorable characters too. Belle, the long suffering woman who has had very bad luck with the men she’s married. Wade, who thinks himself in love with Cassie and tries to “save” her from another abusive husband.

Readers will have many different feelings about Wade and I hope he will be able overcome the hardships he’s had to deal with all of his life.

The ups and downs of these characters just make each one of them that much stronger. Only one more thing I can say is what a wonderful way Mary Connealy ended her tale.

I give Montana Rose 4 out of 5 Bookies.
