Book Blurb:

The city of San Francisco is being stalked by a huge shaved vampyre cat named Chet, and only I, Abby Normal, emergency backup mistress of the Greater Bay Area night, and my manga-haired love monkey, Foo Dog, stand between the ravenous monster and a bloody massacre of the general public.

Whoa. And this is a love story? Yup. ‘Cept there’s no whining. See, while some lovers were born to run, Jody and Tommy were born to bite. Well, reborn, that is, now that they’re vampires. Good thing theirs is an undying love, since their Goth Girl Friday, Abby Normal, imprisoned them in a bronze statue.
Abby wants to be a bloodsucking fiend, too, but right now she’s really busy with other stuff, like breaking in a pair of red vinyl thigh-high Skankenstein® platform boots and wrangling her Ph.D.-candidate boyfriend, Steve (the love monkey). And then there’s that vampire cat Chet, who’s getting bigger and smarter—and thirstier—by the minute. Abby thought she and Steve could handle the kitty cat on their own, mais non . . .

Before you can say “OMG! WTF?” Tommy and Jody are sprung from captivity, and join forces with Abby, Steve, the frozen-turkey-bowling Safeway crew, the Emperor of San Francisco and his trusty dogs Lazarus and Bummer, Abby’s gay Goth friend Jared, and SF’s finest Cavuto and Rivera to hunt big cat and save the city. And that’s when the fun really begins.

My Thoughts:

First, a word of warning. This is a book to read at home, not in the park on a nice spring day or in the break room at work during lunch hour. This book is literally laugh out loud funny and some people tend to not react well to other people that are sitting alone and laughing. That said, you definitely want to read this book if you enjoy Moore’s brand of irreverent humor. So just plan ahead.
This is the third book in Christopher Moore’s Vampire trilogy following Bloodsucking Fiends and You Suck. The events of the previous books are recapped in the beginning of Bite Me so you could probably read it without reading the other two books first. That would be a mistake though as they are are all so funny that it would be a shame to miss a page of it.
Once you make it past the recap, the action is full speed ahead. There is a group of vampire cats, led by Chet, the huge shaved vampire cat, that is feeding from and killing people they find on the streets. Trying to stop the vampire cats are Abby, the teenage minion, her boyfriend Steve, her BFF Jared, the Emperor and his dogs, and the cops Rivera and Cavuto. Then the Safeway night stock crew, known as the Animals, gets involved when they shelter the Emperor from a vampire cat attack. Jody the vampire escapes from her bronze statue and releases Flood her vampire boyfriend. To complicate matters, more vampires arrive in the city on a big, black yacht.
I’ll stop there because I don’t want to give away too much. The action is fast and furious and the laughs are loud and long. Abby is hilarious. I love her unique way of viewing everything. She sticks to her own version of things despite other’s views on the subject.  Here’s a quote about her boyfriend Steve, also known as Foo Dog.

(Foo keeps insisting that he can’t be a ninja because he’s Chinese and ninjas are Japanese, but
he’s just being stubborn and goes all Angry, Angry Asian on me whenever I bring it up.)

My recommendation on this book is: pick up a copy and go home to read it. It is funny and fabulous. It is a great way to spend a few hours. If you haven’t read anything by Christopher Moore before this book will hook you. If you have read some of his other books, this book is probably already on your TBR list.

I give this book a full five bookies!
