Book Blurb:

If Nora Johnson hadn’t been on campus that day she would have never known her true destiny. Helping her friends move into the dorm that she wanted to call home, Nora accidentally collides with mysterious stranger, Gavin Frey. His very first touch sends flames through her heart. The world seems different-something within her has changed.

Nora tries to resume her mundane life, but she is now consumed with the one whose very presence ignited her soul, the one with eyes of emerald. Nora soon learns that an energy buried deep within has been unleashed. She now wields unimaginable power and has become Gavin’s source, his strength.

Her newfound joy is shaken when she discovers that Gavin is not who he appears to be and she has been thrust in the middle of a war of mythical proportions. Negativity has allowed all things evil to flourish, the earth is under siege. The fate of creation hinges on the power within her heart. Will she be strong enough to survive?

A gripping tale of unbounded love and ancient power, The Light of Asteria will take you on an epic adventure filled with war, treachery, and demons, as well as unimaginable delights.

My Thoughts:

I downloaded this book from B&N.com a few months ago, I don’t remember if I purchased it as one of their free book promos or if it was at one of those insanely cheap promo prices. What I do know is that I didn’t pay the full price, and I wasn’t expecting much from it – other than a little bit of romantic entertainment. I was pleasantly surprised and it taught me a lesson about not prejudging books by their price.To be completely honest The Light of Asteria (Kailmeyra’s Last Hope) was one of the most beautiful stories I have ever read. I wish I had purchased the paperback version and could put it on my “keeper shelf”. I am even considering reading it again, which is something I never do.

In the beginning Nora, our heroine is a sweet, simple and unassuming girl. Due to that you expect her to be weak and in need of a hero to sweep in to save the day. Turns out that isn’t so much the case. As the story progresses she grows into a force to be reckoned with while still maintaining the sweet and simple aspects of her personality. She’s the kind of person we all want as a friend. One of the great things about this book is that we get to watch her grow and mature, instead of having to wait for the next book to see how she’s grown – which is the case in a lot of books these days.
As the story begins we meet Nora dropping her best friends off at their college dorm. Which is a bittersweet thing for her because while she is happy for her friends she is also brokenhearted that she can’t be staying there with them. On her way out she unexpectedly walks straight into Gavin, our hero and her world is forever changed. Her destiny has come to light.
I love Gavin! He is everything a hero should be and more. He’s hot, intelligent, mysterious in the beginning and fiercely protective of Nora. She is everything to him and he has no issue telling the world that she is. What makes Gavin so much more is that he is a positive person who has to battle with the darker side of emotions. He is very real, very believable and  sweet too.
The world building is fantastic! The author doesn’t just dump a whole bunch of information on you all at once, but builds the world for you piece by piece. The secondary characters are all well developed and real. The writing itself is enthralling. While the story doesn’t move along at a break-neck pace it does move along at the perfect pace for the type of story it is. I was completely taken in by every aspect of this story, from beginning to end and when it was over I didn’t want it to be.
The story is about the power of love, sacrifice, being true to yourself, good verses evil, listening to your instincts and paying attention to the world around you.  It is an intense and powerful journey you embark on from the first line. It’s a journey you won’t want to end.
There wasn’t anything about  this book that I didn’t love and I can’t for the life of me figure out why none of the big publishing houses have picked it up. They don’t know what they are missing, but now you do…I highly recommend this book to everyone!

    This is one of my favorite books- I love reading new reviews!
    Gavin is the epitome of what a man should be like. It makes me want to ditch every bad boy tendency I have ever had.
    It is such a story of love and sacrifice!

    @Book Crazy Jenn & brandileigh2003 :
    I am so glad to hear that I am not the only one who discovered & fell in love with this book. It is one of my favorite books also. If I had said everything I feel about this book the review would have been 5 pages long. LOL Some scenes still float through my mind from time to time & I read it months ago. I am dying for the next one to come out but – Oh how hard it's going to be to wait another year spend time with Nora & Gavin again. *sign*
