Create a Spell with Author Suzanne McLeod + Contest

Filed in Blogoversary , Giveaways , Guest Post , Suzanne McLeod Posted on January 15, 2011 @ 1:00 pm 47 comments

Today is the first day of our Author takeover! We start our Blogoversary celebration with Author Suzanne McLeod who will make you work hard to win one of her books in the Spellcracker series! Have you ever dreamed of creating a useful Spell? Today is your chance. Everything’s possible, your imagination’s the limit 😉 Welcome Suzanne!

Yay! Congratulations to the Book Lovers on their blogoversary. And thank you to them for inviting me back to help celebrate! It’s great to be here 🙂

So, the Book Lovers told me that this would be an easy gig, and that instead of them asking me questions, or me doing a blog post, that this time they wanted me to make them do all the work (she says, typing frantically away! Yep, I fell for that one, didn’t I? *g*). But, after wracking my little grey cells, I finally came up with an evil plan to get my revenge . . .

But before I reveal all, let me take this chance to do some shameless self-promotion and tell you about the magic you can find in my Spellcrackers books. Well, magic in the Spellcrackers’ world is a sort of elemental ingredient and can be used for anything from a protective Ward, a nasty hex, or all sorts of making-life-easy spells.
And here’s just a few examples of those handy spells, all of which can be bought* at the world-famous Witches’ Market in London’s wonderful Covent Garden.

Bad-Hair-Day Remedy ~ the antidote for those days that start out wrong and never get any better.

Noisy Neighbour Muffler ~ sleepless nights will become nothing more than a fading dream.

Body-Brolly spell ~ lightens the load and keeps you as dry as the Sahara.

Anti-Congestion Charge Charm ~ Warning: attempting to avoid legal payment of London’s traffic Congestion Charge is a criminal offence.

Dri-Feet Patches ~ wear your Diva shoes whatever the weather.

Security Stingers ~ the Ultimate Intruder Deterrent.>

Wind-Remedy Hair-Pins ~ the hidden answer to sleek, shining, stay-put locks.

*If you know where to look, of course *g*

Want to see one of the spells in action? Okay, so here’s a snippet from The Bitter Seed of Magic – #3 where Genny is putting one of the spells to use. Quite why she’s doing what she is . . . well, you’ll have to read the book to find the answer to that question, won’t you? *g*

“I opened my hand and launched the cotton wool balls into the air with a quick push of my will to activate the spells. Security Stingers ~ the Ultimate Intruder Deterrent. The spells flew towards Sylvia like small pollen-thirsty bees, buzzing around her and wrapping her face and pink cycle helmet in a mass of fine, sticky, sting-laden threads. She jerked, her eyes opening briefly, then she sighed and they closed again, in sleep this time.”

So here’s where my evil plan to get my revenge comes into effect and I make the Book Lovers do some work instead of us poor authors all the time *wicked cackle*. I want to ask all the Book Lovers to get their thinking caps on and . . . invent their own spells! *g*

Only my evilness doesn’t stop there . . . Oh, no, it’s not just the Book Lovers who have to do all the hard thinking, but all of you blog readers too. So, I want everyone to have a go at concocting your own spell and tell me about it in the comments.

But since I’m the kind and generous sort (and having so much fun making the Book Lovers work – bwahahahaha) there’s a copy of one of my books (winner’s choice) for one lucky random commentator. But wait, there’s more . . . if someone comes up with a great spell that I can use in book #4 – The Shifting Price of Prey – the inventor will get a signed and personalised copy of that book, along with special thanks in the acknowledgements.

Hope you all have lots of fun thinking up spells, and thanks again to the Book Lovers for having me back to help celebrate their Blogoversary!

~~~~~~~
Oh Suzanne this was so evil of you *g*. We had to put on our thinking hats but here are what us Book Lovers came up with:
Bea -The Charmed Lover :
Silence is Golden: Is your children’s chatter endless? Are your co-workers missing an off button? Cast this spell and get a break as their voices go silent for 2 hours before the spell wears off.
Miracle Money: as long as you have a check, you have money in the bank to cover it. But beware! Not even money is free, there are always consequences so use wisely.
Larissa – The Crazy Lover:
The Instant Nail Polisher: Getting ready to leave the house and your nail are chipped? Get your nails the color and size you want in seconds!
Melissa – The Spellbound Lover
The Money Grows On Trees Spell: Having trouble paying bills. Want to go on that special holiday? Worry no more with this spell. Just be warned that you only use this one trees or inanimate objects as this one could have disastrous effects on humans. (Just think of Midas Touch) This spell can only be used three times.
Rain, Hail or Shine Spell: Sick of rainy weather? Or want to get back at that neighbour who stole your paper? Well this one is for you. All you need to do is pick where you want this to work, and presto! Change in weather! Be careful though, this spell has a tendency to backfire with karma if used too many times for revenge!
Has – The Smutty Lover:
Magic Aerosol:  After a hard day chasing roguish pixies and hunting down vamps and you have to face and impress an important person for a meeting and your clothes are all wrinkled. Magic Aerosol can will spray and iron those wrinkles and stain away and even the frizz from your hair. Its like magic botox/serum for clothes and hair 😀
Stella – The Latin Lover:
Instant Brainstazy: need to cram for an exam, learn Spanish or Japanese overnight, be an expert at fencing or piloting an airplane ? Pop this pill and you’ll acquire the desired knowledge for 24 hours! The practical and tiny packaging makes it an absolute must for every purse. Need to know something? Take an Instant Brainstazy: the Extasy for your brain!*
* Not to take excessively, be aware of possible sideeffects: sleepiness, exhaustion, remaining certitude of possessing the previously acquired knowledge when actually not, constant chocolate craing (which can be easily remedied with our Eat a Lot Gain Absolutely Not spell!).
Eat a Lot Gain Absolutely Not: this is the salvation of modern women all around the world. With the help of this spell you will be able to eat as much as you want without having to worry about your weight! Indulge in chocolate cake, French fries or cheesy pizza as much as you like, you will not gain a single pound! Enjoy every bite, as the magic does not affect the taste and hinder your enjoyment of the food.
Amanda – The Winged Lover:
The Handy Hangover Cleanser: Had a big one last night? Still need to go to work this morning? Just down a vial of this rapid fix tonic and banish those naty side effects in no time at all!
Veronica – The Sexy lover:
The Keep Body Firm Charm:  the antidote to keep your body nice tight and firm.
Jackie – The Quirky Lover :
Clone for a Day: Does it seem like everyone relies on you to do everything? This short lived spell helps to get twice the work done in half the time. Sadly, the side effects prevent it form being used too often, so be careful!
Lea – The Danger Lover:
Transport To Work On Snow Days Charm: Provides instant levitation & transport to destination without risk of life & limb.
Caroline – The HEA Lover:
The Helpful Everyday Aid: Transform every situation in a HEA. Will make everything right for 24hours. Want a taste of HEA, try the Helpful Everyday Help. Be careful what you wish for, cause you just might get it.
Susi – The Geeky Lover:
Monday Morning Mercy: staying relaxed & caffeinated on Mondays, no matter what.
Jojo – The Cornered Lover
The Everything Spell – Want all the money you can dream of ? How about that perfect job? Have you wanted super strength? Is there a dream guy out there you have wanted to notice you? Look no further now you can have it all. Now you can have everything you’ve always desired. But choose wisely and Do not let these simple words fool you. With wanting everything, there is always a price to be paid. The world still needs balance, and balance it shall have. Beware of the backlash. Want that perfect job? Someone must loose theirs for you to gain…
Now it’s YOUR turn! Come up with a Spell to be entered in the contest!
    This really happened! I SWEAR! When I was a little girl my step-brother came to stay with us because no one else could handle him. He was MEAN. I still have the scars (real ones) to prove it. He was outside riding bike & I sat inside & made a clay image of him. Because he was a pain in the ass, that's where I stuck the hatpin:) I heard a scream & he came in the house having fallen from his bike & landed on his butt. :):):) Of course I never did it again. It kind of scared me…still think it worked:)
  • Meredith January 15, 2011 at 2:30 pm
    It may not be a great spell for a book, but a Motivate a Teen spell would be great. Maybe a chore would get done once in awhile.
    Great post, thanks =) I would give anything if there were a Dress-Cleaning Spell. It's known that it can always be seen on my dress what my breackfast was xD It could be really embarrassing, believe me! And after I have to throw out my favourite dresses, because the stains can't be cleaned out.
    Thanks for the giveaway, Suzanne, I really like the covers of your books =)
    I see Bea and I are on the same page here with this first one; she's just a bit more polite than me!
    Personal Mute Button. Having trouble concentrating (or staying hidden) because a certain someone won’t quit blabbing? Aim and click this small charm in their general direction and quiet rules for 2 hours.
    Topsy Turvy Time Talisman. Corrects an individual’s time deficiencies. For someone whose internal clock is off, this tiny talisman will create harmony. The notoriously late and the perpetually early will both be on time. Single use. Permanent solution.
    Have a husband that is too busy playing the new x-box than helping you take care of the kids and dinner? Never fear. Here is a spell that will make that irritating annoying video game box dissapear and with it the memory that it ever existed. In it's place you will get a happy husband ready to help your every whim and draw you a bath to help you relax while he takes over all the chores. Complete bliss is in your future 🙂
    If only LOL
    Motivate the husband spell–get him to takeout the garage, get rid of the soda cans, etc, without being nagged for a week to do so.
  • Robin K January 15, 2011 at 3:24 pm
    I would love to create a TAKE TIME SPELL. Just slow everything way down and take time. Time to relax, sleep, play, meet friends… Just more time.
  • Sullivan McPig January 15, 2011 at 4:35 pm
    Hmmm….
    How about a 'I'm busy, can't you see?' spell. A spell that makes it look like you're hard at work but secretly you're reading a book.
    or:
    'spirit bookmark' for those moments you do not have a bookmark on you, you can use this spell that holds the place in your book for you.
  • Suzanne McLeod January 15, 2011 at 4:37 pm
    Ooh, you're all coming up with lots of great spells! I'm having a lot of fun reading all these, and thanks everyone so far for playing along 😀
  • Teril January 15, 2011 at 5:46 pm
    Instant Transportation Spell:
    With this magic dust you will end up anywhere you want to go and be back in place where you cast the spell three minutes later.
    With this spell I could get to all those great books signings I miss since I live in the boonies, and have no days of extra time to get to the bigger cities 😉
    This series looks great! I cannot believe this is the first glimpse I have had of it! I cannot wait.
    I need to be smart now, love that nosy neighbour spell btw 😉
    Have you written the perfect blog post, email or something in your head? Fear not, this spell will get it out of your head and on the computer or paper in now time.
    Have wanted that a couple of times, lol
  • JenM January 15, 2011 at 8:21 pm
    For those of us that always have cold hands and feet, I present the Keep Your Extremities Warm spell. This spell is useful anytime, day or night. Just cast it and you'll feel an instant warmth spread throughout your cold appendages – no need to carry little warming packs with you anymore, and best of all, you can wear sandals, even in the winter.
    I LOVE this contest idea!! And hope I win!
    How about the remember-what-you-read spell? Helpful to students cramming for exams, and bloggers writing reviews… *wink*
    Combine it with a remember-what-you-hear spell, and old age doesn't sound quite so scary anymore. *grin*
    "Rewind" – so that when you do put your foot in your mouth in a social situation, you can go back in time and stop yourself from saying anything; also works for doing anything stupid.
    "Parking Genie" – this will flash a light (only visible to the user) over an available parking space closest to the destination; optional addition of a parking space in a full lot. Also comes in "Seat on the Bus/Train Genie", "Winner of Musical Chairs Genie" and "Always a Window or Aisle Seat in Emergency Exit/Bulkhead Row on a Plane Genie".
    This was a great idea! Love reading all the spells. Now I have to try to come up with one…
    How about….
    Ol' Pooky Pull spell – When you are driving down the road and there they are the ones with no gas pedal in there car. This spell will have them pull over so you can drive by.
    Okay, so kind of lame for off the top of my head. But so many great spells where created already. 🙂 Thanks!
  • Alisha (MyNeedToRead) January 16, 2011 at 1:28 pm
    First Date Fix charm: Everyone knows how nerve-wracking a first date can be. Otherwise fabulous people turn into sputtering messes in the pursuit of making a good impression. But not anymore; this spell will improve split-second responses, relax nervousness and provide extra clarity to see the best in your date. With the FDF charm, you can take your chance with romance without worry. (Comes with personal "food in teeth" alarm system.)
    Cheers!
  • Has January 17, 2011 at 3:28 pm
    Talking about penis enhancements – I actually had a fleeting thought of a perv alert spell 😛 But I thought that would be to far out. But if a perv is closeby and is about to do anything naughty. A charm will cause their rounded dangly bits to glow a vibrant fire engine red and they would feel it too!
    I blame Susi she dared me to post it *runs away*
  • pattepoilue January 17, 2011 at 3:30 pm
    @Has ROFL!! I love it. I believe you, I'm pretty sure Susi is behind this! I can see her hiding behind you as I speak 😉
  • Julie January 17, 2011 at 3:43 pm
    Clean yard spell. This is a spell you cast on your yard or barn yard. It automatically cleans up after your pets/livestock/etc.
    (I had to clean the yard today, can you tell? lol)
    ALways Clean spell – It magically turns all of your dirty laundry clean – where it is perfectly pressed, and put in the proper spot.
    Just 5 More Minutes – this spell makes every extra 5 minutes of sleep feel like an hour. In essence slowing down time.
    How about the "Here's your Sign" Spell. You know the one. It gives stupid people a lime green aura so that you can easily spot them in a crowd. Thus allowing us to avoid grocery store cashier mix-ups, be able to avoid a significant others relatives easily and from a distance (very handy at those family picnics), the spell that helps singles avoid wasting time trying to chat up a certain stranger at the local bar. I could on, and on, and well, you get the idea. It's a 'limitless use' kinda spell. Lots of potential.
    My spell: to impress my daughter when she was little I would say about 6..
    The tail of her my little pony had fallen out. Her and the neighboor girl came running in all frantic that it was broke. I calmly took the tail and pony and a few seconds later BAM!! Tail back in place. As the girls turn to leave my daughter says "See I told you my mom was a witch!!! She does know magic"
    I was rolling on the floor… My daughter had just called me a witch. 🙂
    Thanks for a chance to win your book. You are a new author to me and I would love a chance to read.
    Here's another idea!
    Glamour Spell – This spell will change the perception people you have of your physical appearance. This spell last for 2 hours and can't be dismissed. Use wisely, you never know what you will look like!
  • EVA SB January 22, 2011 at 5:42 am
    Auto-chatter spell for when that annoying person phones. The spell answers automatically with 'yes', 'mmm' and 'ahah' and alerts you if anything actually interesting is being said – so you can use you time more productively reading.
    And for those face-to face conversations. The interested-expression spell that combines an interested facial expression with the 'auto response' and 'interest alert' from the auto-chatter spell so your colleagues don't get offended while you spend your time day-dreaming about the hunk in the corner.
  • les121 January 24, 2011 at 2:50 pm
    My first idea was
    "Keep your glasses clean, stop them steaming up when you go from the cold into somewhere warm and keep the rain off them."
    Then I realised it had already been done in Harry Potter.
    So instead I came up with
    "JUST IN CASE, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU MIGHT NEED"
    Taking the baby out for the day? Filling your bag with nappies, baby wipes, nappy bags, dummies, baby bottles, baby food, spare clothes, toys etc?
    Sick of carrying all that around? Try "JUST IN CASE, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU MIGHT NEED"
    Attach this spell to any bag no matter how small and off you go. If you need anything just say what you need out loud, open the bag and it will be there.
    available in
    Day Out With Baby
    Day Out With The Whole Family
    0-12
    12+
    Overnight Stay (can be customised)
    more coming soon!
    Well – I definitely need a "always catch the tram/train etc"-spell, so if you need it coming & you're still too far away, you can cast a spell & it waits or slows down or you move faster. that would save me from a lot of running. 😉
