Explore This! Scotland: Land of the Bravehearted (and home of the kilt-clad men)

Today’s virtual travels take us to place I consider my home away from home. While not actually born in Scotland, I did spend some of my early years there and constantly long to go back. But, I will admit that my inspiration to post this comes from my fellow BookLover, JoJo and her month of Highlanders. Seriously, is there anything better than a man in a kilt?

Anyway, here are just a few of the many wonderful sites that you’ll see on a tour of Scotland (Lowland
and Highland), most of which I have personally visited and would gladly do so again!

The majestic Ben Nevis, highest mountain in the UK.

The Brig O’Doon, famed by Robert Burns’ Tam O’Shanter poem.

Burns’ Cottage in Alloway.

Cathedral of St. Mungo’s in Glasgow

A Highland cow (pronounced hee-lan’ coo)

Dumbarton Castle, where Mary, Queen of Scots once stayed
(and just down the road from many of my relatives 🙂

Ediburgh Castle.

Eilean Donan. When you search for castles in Scotland,
this is one of the most famous.

The river Clyde as it runs through Glasgow. This is a major
water way for ships and submarines.

Glen Coe. A stunning example of the beautiful but savage looking highlands.
Still, probably a good place to find those rugged men that give this
place it’s fierce reputation 😉

Loch Ness with Urquhart Castle nestled on its banks.
(And no Nessie to be seen anywhere!)

Stirling Castle, which is not far from the site of the Battle of Bannockburn,
which you may recognize from reading The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon.
At one point, Michael Jackson had been considering purchasing it, but never did.
And the reward for making it too the end of this post 😉

As you can see, it is stunning country that maintains so much of its natural beauty and is extremely proud of its history. But, I gush with my own pride at having a connection to it all. I’ve recently discovered that you can purchase land that comes with a title, which is something to consider one day….Baroness Jackie…*sigh.

In the meantime, be sure to pop over to JoJo’s blog to check out her entire month dedicated to the hunky men that call Scotland home.

Lovely photos! I am actually going to Scotland in two weeks, and will be visiting Glasgow and Edinburgh, among other places. I have always wanted to go to Scotland, it looks so beautiful. And your pictures prove it! I'm really looking forward to this trip. Perhaps I will meet my very own highlander? 😉

Scotland does have a lot of natural beauty. Particularly of the male variety. 😉

@Hilde – Enjoy! I'll cross my fingers for you 😀

@heidenkind – Totally, though sadly, then men don't ALL walk around like that all the time…

I love Scotland – spent three weeks there a year and a half ago – hiking in the Highlands and Islands and visiting Edinburgh and Inverness. It's a magical place, but I never saw a kilted guy like that! I wish!

I'd love to visit one day and spend some time hiking and exploring the countryside.

@yosneparedes – I hope you the opportunity again soon!

@Julia – I would love to hike around. My vacays there have always been family occasions. I could totally get lost in the hills for 3 weeks…and the bakeries 😉

@Jenny – Take me with you? lol

@LSU – Aw, thanks! I hope you got lots of pictures…

@Vampires – I hope you get to visit too. I think everyone should! And, yes…yes, he is.

@JoJo – Yes, you should go and soon! I hate to disappoint, but the men don't actually walk around like that, I'm very sorry to say. You may have to visit during the Highland Games for such viewing pleasure 😉 *hugs*
