Romance and Me: The Enemies to Lovers Trope

Filed in Romance and Me , The Latin Lover Posted on November 16, 2011 @ 3:00 pm 10 comments

I thought we could once again talk about the frequently revisited tropes in romance stories.

If you remember I have already told you how much I love the Friends to Lovers trope in romance novels, today I would like to talk to you about another favourite trope of mine: the just as popular and beloved Enemies to Lovers one! 🙂

I think the reason for my enthusiasm and preference for this trope is quite obvious: when an author chooses to create an enemies-to-lovers story the hero and heroine are expected to have a lot of fights, banters, teasing, which are the perfect opportunity for the author to shine their writing talent and creativity and portray some interesting and vivid characters and the best sparkling and explosive dialogue there can be. I just love when the hero/heroine get in each other’s face and their discussion (=quarrel) becomes so heated that the only natural resolution to it is a hot and heavy kiss and make out session ;-p Oh come on, I know you do too!

And how they deal with the aftermath of this “moment of weakness/insanity” is one of the most fun things to read about! *grins*

Veronica Mars & Logan – one of my favourite enemies-to-lovers couple
A few enemies-to-lovers stories that come to mind right now (all great stories I can only recommend):

And of course a classic and all-time favourite enemies-to-lovers story of mine is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen! 🙂

I’m always on the lookout for great enemies-to-lovers romances, so if you know of any, please let me know.
Once again I found a few Goodreads recommendation lists which compiled the “best” enemies-to-lovers novels:

Are you a fan of the enemies-to-lovers plotline?

Do you have any great enemies-to-lovers books to recommend?

@miki: Sorry, I haven't yet had the pleasure of discovering the Night Huntress series yet (I know, don't stone me please). I have it on my TBR shelf, all 6 books, will have to start reading them soon, I have heard I'll be in for a treat! 😀

@Hermia: No problem, I got you wanted to say/write Veronica, typos are my archnemesis as well, they always sneak up on me grr :-/

You MUST read something by Erin Nicholas! She is absolutely fantabulous, her contemporary romances are my favourite: she writes them fresh, sassy, witty and incredibly sexy with lots of humour and chuckle out loud banters. I have read all her novels to date, and there was not one I didn't like 🙂

Yes, I do like both tropes. They are supposed to hate each other, due to family feud or something. But fall in love instead. But to name one from the top of my head?

How about second chance at love? There is perhaps some hate because of hurted feelings/broken hearts. In that case I recommend Suzanne Enoch – A beginner's guide to rakes. Awesome book, both cover and title are absolute rubbish though.
