In an attempt to put her unhappy past behind her, Justine Jones throws herself into nursing school and planning her wedding to Otto Sanchez, the man of her dreams. But something is off. Random details aren’t adding up…and is it her imagination, or are her friends and fiancé keeping secrets from her? And what’s with this strange sense of unease, and her odd new headaches?

Justine tries to stay upbeat as Midcity cowers under martial law, sleepwalking cannibals, and a mysterious rash of paranormal copycat violence, but her search for answers leads her into the most dangerous mind game yet.

With the help of unlikely allies, including her paranoid dad and best frenemy Simon, Justine fights her ultimate foe…and unravels the most startling mystery of all.

The Review:

WARNING: We both just finished the book so the emotions still run hot and this review will contain an absurd amount of squeeing so people with tender ears get yourself some earplugs. You have been warned.
We’re trying not to spoil anything but it’s hard to miss who Susi and I root for. Just so you know…

Susi: I have to admit that I wasn’t sure about the audiobook factor. I, in contrast to Caro, am not much of an audiobook gal but I HAD to get this one ASAP so well here we are. I’m officially converted.

Caro: Well I love Audiobooks but I’m often very particular about which book I listen to (I get easily bored). And narrators are very important in my choices. But I knew I would listen to this one without hesitation. I threw my worries about the narrator away and gave it a try. Good thing I ended up really enjoying this narrator! =P

As I just got the first book in the series, I would love to win the second one! That way, I can just keep on reading, as you all are so mad about this series.

a secret dream holiday escape you would love to visit instead of suffering through the pre-holiday craze? Of course I would rather be on vacation, and catered to than having to plan the whole weekend by myself. My boyfriend is truly worthless in that regard, having no ideas at all, agreeing to everything I want. But I just wish he would come up with some ideas. It is tiring and difficult to always be the one who has to think of things. From what to eat, to where to go, and what to buy at the grocery store.

I’d love to go to Australia, it is nice and warm there now 🙂 Learn the local food, animals who don’t live in Europe and fruit stuffs. Just relax.

Honestly, I’ve been dreaming of taking a week-long holiday cruise somewhere warm for Christmas! No cooking or cleaning or anything! Just lazing about, reading and eating, eating, eating. Sounds like heaven to me! It’s not on the horizon this year (or even next), but I’ll do it one day! 🙂

  • draconismoi December 21, 2011 at 10:45 am

Holy crap I missed it! This is what happens when you pick up and move across the country. You miss out on important things. Like the release of a book SOME people taunted you with an amazing review of months before it came out.

I have a job again! This means I can buy books. I need to check my never-ending list and see what other releases I’ve overlooked.

Normally Id say I have a (not-so) secret dream of traveling around South America for a month in December and just totally blowing off the holidays altogether. This year my holiday-dream is to locate a bed. Anyone know where I can get a reasonably priced bed in Alaska?

I would love to take a long vacation to Ireland and stay at an old castle.

  • blodeuedd December 21, 2011 at 11:49 am

    Ohhh I want Head Rush!

Hm…nope, I need to stay in Finland when xmas comes, though I kind of wish that the years when the weather is crappy that I could just go to Lapland where hopefully they have snow

  • Viki S. December 21, 2011 at 12:20 pm

I’d like to go to the Ritz in Hawaii. It just looks so beautiful. And to be waited on hand and foot – oh YES!
Thank you so much and Have A Very Happy Holiday!

  • erinf1 December 21, 2011 at 12:25 pm

Thanks for the wonderful giveaway! I got the first two books in this series when Borders closed and I’ve been saving them for my wee bit of time off for the holidays to read 😉 I’d love the 3rd book, b/c I’m one of those OCD people who like to read the entire series at once.

If I could, I’d go away to somewhere with warm weather, a beach and a massage therapist at my beck and call. I’d sit by the water and read, read, read!!!!

    Thanks again and happy Holidays!

I need to add this series to my wishlist.

I’d love to go to Brisbane to hang out in a hotel and be spoiled by my aunt, who lives there.
Though I love Christmas where I am in NZ – hot, sunny weather, bbqs, friends and family.

I’d love to go to Germany and visit their famous Christmas markets!

Thanks for the giveaway; I’m so excited for Head Rush!

  • Mel S December 21, 2011 at 2:51 pm

I often daydream about going away for Christmas – and the few week before hand to avoid the crazy…somewhere with real snow outside, but a roaring logfire inside. With a big real tree decorated with every colour imgainable. Plenty of food and drink and good company inside (but some how no washing up to do!) Only venturing out for snowman making or a sledge ride pulled by reindeer and/or huskies. Lots of friends and family around – and no stress! Basically the Wham video, Last Christmas would be a great place to visit this time of year! 🙂

I would love to be on the beach relaxing.

I would love to be spending my Christmas in Ireland or Scotland especially in a small inn where there’s not a lot of traffic and the place looks much as it did in history.

  • Mary Kirkland December 21, 2011 at 6:03 pm

Secret getaway, well I don’t have one I wish I did but the best place I’ve found to go when things get hectic is the large park here in town, mostly because of all the ducks that will come up to you if you have bread for them. Now if we are talking of a place I wish I had…it would be a log cabin in the woods far away from anyone. lol I would love a print copy of this if I win.

I love going to places where they don’t really celebrate Christmas (non-Christian majority countries). It’s so much fun when you aren’t being bombarded with it, then all of a sudden, something pops up related to the holiday and it seems precious and rare.

I’ve never thought about that before. Hmmm. A cruise would be good since it’s all catered and I wouldn’t have to cook anything. A friend of mine took one in (mostly) Europe that had stops in Italy, France, Turkey…yeah, that would be awesome.

I have to say that I have never thought of being able to go away for the holidays and can’t really think of where I would want to go – that’s just sad!!

I would love to visit my sister’s house for the holidays. She always does all the cooking and entertaining, I get to just relax and visit. Unfortunately, she lives all the way across the country from me and I just went for a visit the end of October, so it’s not happening this year.

Italia is my passion! It’s almost my unreachable country, because Europe is so far away from my country, Indonesia.
So I wish to be there someday, seeking in Milan, Rome, the historical spots! I’d enjoy my ‘lonely time’ there, even I always prefer to take my fam or friend together in a trip!

The past few months have been extremely hectic and I seriously want to get away from everything, pre-hol craze or not…if only I had the time/funds to do so, I’d like to visit Rome or Japan…perhaps even Hawaii! (been dreaming of nice warm places lately)

  • Jeanne December 29, 2011 at 6:00 am

Well I would love to spend some time on a beach 🙂

  • IdentitySeeker December 29, 2011 at 9:18 am

Ohhh yes! I most certainly do… My dream holiday escape right now is a cruise. Somewhere out there in the ocean, in the middle-of-nowhere, so that I would be forced to leave my laptop and cellphone behind and disconnect myself from the world for 5-10 days and just relax, lounge around, swim, dine and sleep. Pure bliss!
