Third Grave Dead Ahead by Darynda Jones

Charley Davidson—grim reaper extraordinaire, private investigator . . . meh—is practicing her profession under the influence, caffeine and copious amounts of it, due to an extreme desire to induce insomnia. Every time she closes her eyes, Reyes Farrow, the part-human, part-supermodel son of Satan, is there. Only thing is, he’s a tad peeved. She did bind for all eternity, so it’s hard blame him. But 13 days without a wink is bound to bring out the crazy in a girl. So, when a man hires her to find his wife, Charley accepts the job with one goal in mind: Put the man behind bars, and not the wet kind. She can sense the guilt waft off him and vows to find the woman’s body and prove he’s a murderer.

Yeahhh buddy. Now THIS is what I call a release week! There are selections enough to pique the interest of any genre fiction aficionado. Chick lit, fantasy, mystery, paranormal romance, historical fiction, science fiction, steampunk, horror….the list goes on and on. And would you believe that the above is just a slice of some of the notable releases? Oh well. Have to stop somewhere, right? ^_^

For this week, I’m majorly excited about five books, including Firelight by Kristen Callihan (which has been receiving amazing advance reviews in the book blogosphere) and its prequel, Ember. Then there’s In the Service of the King by Laura Kaye; the new Jennifer Estep short, Thread of Death; and finally A Little Night Magic by Lucy March. Been waiting patiently for those particular books. Now, wild horses can’t keep them off my bookshelves (although, I have no idea why wild horses would want to do such a thing).

What about you??? Is anything from this week’s spread calling your name? Any new-to-you authors that might go on the TBR list?

Darynda Jones. She was released down here in Dec and I became a firm fan.
I’m looking forward to book 3!

It’s a big list but to be honest nothing really shouts out at me this week. 2 or 3 that I may well try though. In the Service of the King or His Dark Bond.

Wow, what a list! And yes, some are truly pricking my interest, as I too have read some raving reviews. But for now, Darynda Jones and Jennifer Estep are on my must-read list.

I look forward to your thoughts on the new Estep, Aurian. I hear it’s a crazy-good leadin to the next installment coming out in February.

There are only two books I’m interested in buying: SECRETS OF AN ACCIDENTAL DUCHESS with Paul Marron on the stepback and A DEVIL NAMED DESIRE with Steve Kuchinsky on the cover.

Mmm…good ole’ (yummy) Paul Marron. He never disappoints. ^_^

That the evil of posts like this. It’s meant to torment! ^_^

I’ve been wanting to read Darynda Jones’ Charley Davidson series! I’ve heard it’s really funny.

  • draconismoi January 31, 2012 at 11:32 pm

Wait, two books by the same author in the same series….that’s odd. And doesn’t seem very fair to the author.

    • Alisha February 1, 2012 at 2:35 pm

Yeah, it seems a bit weird that the company would release both the prequel and first book at once. Why not either release the prequel first as an appetizer, or release it later as a treat to those who’ve read and enjoyed the first book? Oh, well.

What’s with all the Little Red-Ridinghood wannabees?

    • Alisha February 1, 2012 at 2:34 pm

Heheh I’m glad you noticed that! I was convinced I’d saved the same cover twice. lol It seems cover and story trend tend to crop up in groups. Wonder which of these is better.
