Welcome to this week’s news post and it has been pretty eventful We have news on Amazon and the Touch Kindle in Europe, RITA Finalists who have been announced, Pottermore ebooks and more books to movies tidbits.

Amazon has announced that the Kindle Touch will be available across the pond and the rest of Europe via  its sister sites in Germany, France and Spain as well as the UK. The Touch will also be available in a further 176 territories, and it is up for preorder for its release on the 27th April. Unlike the US models, there wont be an advert discounted version – but there will be a WiFi edition which is priced at £109 and the 3G which £169.

There is also further rumours that Amazon will be releasing three new tablets this year – according to this website – Amazon will be offering two 7 inch tablets and one 8.9 inch and will vary with their screen resolutions. I suspect Amazon will release a new tablet maybe two and that this may rollout later in European markets.

The RWA has announced their finalists for the RITA and Golden Hearts awards, authors such as Ann Aguirre, Thea Harrison, Jennifer Estep and Dani Harper all ganered nominations. For the full list of categories and nominees you can click here.   Everyone at Book Lovers Inc would like to congratulate all the finalists!

Harry Potter ebooks were officially released this week which you can buy directly from the Pottermore site or from Ebook stores like Kindle or Nook. But an interesting article by the Digital Reader highlighted a troubling fact that despite the claims that Pottermore have stated that the ebooks will be DRM free. That is not the case – in fact it seems that Pottermore has insisted that Ebooks sold via 3rd party sites like the Kindle will have DRM added. So be aware if you do buy from Amazon, that it will be DRMed.

News in Brief :

Movie adaptations news!

This week had a few announcements for movie adaptations which seems to be on the heels of the success of The Hunger Games movie, which broke records and has made over two hundred million dollars over its opening weekend. Due to this, other studios are now looking at other YA books which they can turn into franchises.

And it seems Cassandra Clare’s The Mortal Instruments, which a few weeks ago looked dead in the water when Screen Gems pulled out but now has Sony close to a deal with filming due in the summer.

Another big deal which closed this week – is the movie options for the Fifty Shades trilogy by EL James.

And linked to this, is author Andrew Shaffer’s Parody of the Fifty Shades trilogy – Fifty one Shades (he  has posted the first 3 chapters on his site as his alter ego Evilwylie) – which is now being offered to publishers to be picked up for publication. There is even talks of a movie, which I can see happening if the movie for the original series gets the greenlight. I feel this is like a publishing example of Inception.

Now for books to watch out for!

Elizabeth Hoyt’s 4th Maiden Lane book, Thief of Shadows is scheduled for this June – I only recently got into this series and it is good!

A MASKED MAN . . . Winter Makepeace lives a double life. By day he’s the stoic headmaster of a home for foundling children. But the night brings out a darker side of Winter. As the moon rises, so does the Ghost of St. Giles-protector, judge, fugitive. When the Ghost, beaten and wounded, is rescued by a beautiful aristocrat, Winter has no idea that his two worlds are about to collide. A DANGEROUS WOMAN . . . Lady Isabel Beckinhall enjoys nothing more than a challenge. Yet when she’s asked to tutor the Home’s dour manager in the ways of society-flirtation, double-entendres, and scandalous liaisons-Isabel can’t help wondering why his eyes seem so familiar-and his lips so tempting. A PASSION NEITHER COULD DENY During the day Isabel and Winter engage in a battle of wills. At night their passions are revealed . . . But when little girls start disappearing from St. Giles, Winter must avenge them. For that he might have to sacrifice everything-the Home, Isabel . . . and his life

The sequel to Anna Dressed in Blood  Girl of Nightmares  is out this June.

In this follow-up to Anna Dressed in Blood, Cas begins seeing Anna everywhere: sometimes when he’s asleep, and sometimes in waking nightmares. But something is very wrong. These aren’t just daydreams. Anna seems tortured, torn apart in new and ever more gruesome ways every time she appears.

Cas doesn’t know what happened to Anna when she disappeared into Hell, but he knows she doesn’t deserve whatever is happening to her now. Anna saved Cas more than once, and it’s time for him to return the favor.

Dream Lake – The 3rd Friday Harbor book by Lisa Kleypas.

Dream Lake takes readers once again

to the exquisite setting of Friday Harbor, and tells the story of Zoӫ Hoffman, an innkeeper who has all but given up on love. She’s a gentle, romantic soul, but has been so hurt in the past that she dare not trust her heart with anyone. Especially not Alex Nolan. Alex is the most haunted of all the Nolan brothers. He drinks to keep his demons at bay and not only has he given up on love, he has never, ever believed in it. Zoӫ and Alex are oil and water, fire and ice, sunshine and shadow.

But sometimes, it takes only a glimmer of light to chase away the dark. Dream Lake is classic Lisa Kleypas: romantic, powerful, emotional, and magical.

And finally – Loretta Chase’s Scandal Wears Satin, looks fun!

A blue-eyed innocent on the outside and a shark on the inside, dressmaker Sophy Noirot could sell sand to Bedouins. Selling Maison Noirot’s beautiful designs to aristocratic ladies is a little harder, especially since a recent family scandal has made an enemy of one of society’s fashion leaders. Turning scandal to the shop’s advantage requires every iota of Sophy’s manipulative skills, leaving her little patience for a big, reckless rakes like the Earl of Longmore. The gorgeous lummox can’t keep more than one idea in his head at a time, and his idea is taking off all of Sophy’s clothes.

But when Longmore’s sister, Noirot’s wealthiest, favorite customer, runs away, Sophy can’t let him bumble after her on his own. In hot pursuit with the one man who tempts her beyond reason, she finds desire has never slipped on so smoothly . . .

Is anyone tempted to get the new Kindle Touch if it is now available to buy where you are? What YA or adult PNR series do you think will make a good movie and which series or books do you think will  have the same success as Hunger Games, Twilight and Harry Potter?

Oh please noooo on a Fifty Shades movie! Though I’d watch the parody, lol

I honestly cant see how they could adapt a mainstream movie with Fifty – but then there is a huge following so who knows. But if big R rated movies failed recently like Dragon Tattoo which was also based on a huge seller – its not always guaranteed to make a profit.

I have to admit I followed Andrew’s parody and def cracked me up, you can check the first 3 chapters at his site.

How many different tablets are Amazon offering now?? I have what is now called a kindle keyboard and have had for the last 18 months. I feel no need to ‘upgrade’ so I hope all these versions are aimed at people new to e-readers rather than getting the rest of us to trade up!! 🙂

    • Has March 30, 2012 at 4:56 pm

Right now its just the Fire for the tablet but e-ink readers there have been quite a few, just like the Nook, Sony and Kobo. I agree about the tradeup thing. I have to say I am tempted by the Touch but I am happy with the K3 😀
