Explore This! Mendocino, California

I’ve been reading The Wolf Gift by Anne Rice, and in it, her version of the werewolf travels through San Francisco and further on north through California. I thought it would be neat to check out Mendocino, California, being it’s one of the names in her book.

The Wolf Gift takes place (at times) in a remote area on the Pacific Ocean and surrounded by redwood trees that have a particular meaning for some of the characters. The images Rice offers are ones of lush nature but with a certain wild, savage, untouchable feel. I think in searching out some of these images, I would agree, but this area is certainly one filled with raw beauty also. Let’s check it out:

Living alongside the ocean tends to wear homes down that much quicker.

If you've read Rice's book, you can easily imagine Reuben in these trees.

Such a quaint house!

A beach view unlike any other I've seen.

This one is just for the lighthouse, of course 🙂

With mist and crashing waves, it seems to fit Rice's near sexual feel of the ocean in her book.

Have any of you been to Mendocino? Would it live up to my new romanticized visualization of it? I’d love to hear what you think!

Wow those last 3-4 photos are breathtaking! I just LOVE lighthouses, would love to spend my honeymoon in one 😉

Thank you for another beautiful trip you took me on Jackie! 😀

It is a wonderful area although I haven’t been there in years. Of course, Mendocino County is also known for their marijuana so people are rather laid back there.

I’ve been wanting to visit Glass Beach (a beach with lots of beach glass), but I haven’t gotten there yet.

It’s still snowing at my house. I kind of hate you for these pictures right now.

Nice post again Jackie, thank you. But that forest picture, no. That forest is way too young / thin to be able to hide a bunch of werewolves. The houses and ocean pics are gorgeous!
