Gunmetal Magic (Kate Daniels, #5.5) by Ilona Andrews

Some people have everything figured out — Andrea Nash is not one of those people. After being kicked out of the Order of Knights of Merciful Aid, Andrea’s whole existence is in shambles. All she can do is try to put herself back together, something made easier by working for Cutting Edge, a small investigative firm owned by her best friend, Kate Daniels.

When several shapeshifters working for Raphael Medrano — the male alpha of Clan Bouda and Andrea’s former lover — die unexpectedly at a dig site, Andrea is assigned to investigate … and must work with Raphael. As her search for the killer leads her into the secret underbelly of supernatural Atlanta, Andrea knows that dealing with her feelings for Raphael might have to take a backseat to saving the world …

. . .

See the New Releases list above? Take that and double it. That’s what my “final” list looked like before I decided to do a hack and slash to shorten the lineup to something more reasonable (and less panic-inducing). There was just so much exciting new material coming out this week that it’s perhaps a better idea to focus on a smaller group of notable releases. (Hence, the list above.)

But there are so many that were very unfortunately left off the list. There’s paranormal romance Magic Gone Wild (Bottled Magic #3) by Judi Fennell, which looks like a cheeky romp. The YA mystery Hide and Seek by Sara Shepard continues the popular Lying Game series about a girl who assumes the identity of her murdered twin in order to explore the unsolved crime. Haven (Bishop/Special Crimes Unit, #13) is the latest in Kay Hooper’s highly popular mystery thriller series.

Lots to catch up on in the series front, in other words. And for some of them, I can barely wait to read the newest releases (like An Officer’s Duty)–the temptation is there to just skip installments. But of course, patience and virtues and all that, right?

What books releasing this week have been on your anticipated list; any series continuations? Have you ever read a series book out of order?

Oh, I’m sorry. I was too busy reading Gunmetal Magic to look at your question this week. 🙂

I can’t wait to read Gunmetal Magic!

Andrews, Thurman, Johnson. . . and quite a number more made it to my Kindle this week. Can’t wait to start them all.

This sure was a busy week. Maybe you can do a Part Deux to get them all in. I surely wouldn’t want to miss anything and wind up with nothing to read. 🙂

I sometimes do read books out of order, but it’s not my preference. It’s easier with some romance series than SFF/UF series to jump in anywhere because there’s not so much world-building to contend with. Even so, I get all anal retentive about doing things in the wrong order!

Great list again, but the one I want the most is Jean Johnson – An Officers Duty. Yes, even more than the Ilona Andrews book!

I’m looking forward to Moonglow but would probably be too busy to read anything. Working 7/24 and won’t get a break until mid October!
