Romance and Me: I HEART Series!

Hey Everyone!

As you can see from the title I LOVE series! Be the individual novels connected via the characters (siblings, friends, etc.) or a place (the residents of a small town, co-workers of the same restaurant, etc.) I just love it. Why? Well there are several reasons for that.

First and foremost because if I enjoy an author’s writing style and loved one of their books I just want more of the same goodness 😀

Secondly because once an author has established a world with well-developed (secondary) characters, I want to revisit the place and see how their life is going and what happens to them. Also, I just find it a great bonus to have an epilogue HEA to the previous book’s couple and see what they have been up to since we waved them goodbye at their happy ending. 😀

And the third reason is that if an author can dispose of the length and span of several books, they are not constructed into cramming everything into just one. They have the possibility to add nuances, depth and make the stories, the setting, the characterisations that much more layered and three-dimensional.

The very first interconnected series I remember loving was Nora Roberts’ Born in series about the Concannon sisters: Maggie, Brianna and Shannon. To this day it is one of the main reasons why I loved Nora Roberts’ books is her tendency to write family sagas (I just LOVE her MacGregor series! It was the best as she not only told the stories of the siblings, but the parents, the grandchildren and that meant lots and lots of interwoven stories, heaven for me! :-D)

Since then I discovered a few other favourites: Erin Nicholas’ Bradfords series (I just LOVE that series it is fun and sexy and the next book Just a Kiss comes out on Oct 30, mark your calendars and wishlists!), Jill Shalvis’ Lucky Harbor series (I seriously did a happy dance when I heard the news she’d be expanding the originally 3 books series into a 6 books series! :-D), and when it comes to historical romances I couldn’t be happier that Heather Snow, Lorraine Heath, Shana Galen all do trilogies! 😀 I’m not discriminating, I love my series in paranormal romance (yay for Kresley Cole always expanding her Immortals After Dark series) and urban fantasy as well (double yay for Kelley Armstrong writing a 13 books series (her Women of the Otherworld series)!! :-D).

 So do tell me,

Do you like series or prefer to read standalone books? And why is that?

What are your favourite series? Any good ones you could recommend?

I like both, but prefer series. It’s always nice to revisit with characters from the previous books. Some of my favorite series include Lisa Kleypas’s Bow Street Runners and Laura Griffin’s Tracers books.

I don’t have a preference. What I DO like about series is the additional opportunity to develop the ongoing storyline, extra face time for secondary characters, more of a sense of place, etc. There are a lot of good romance series: early Julia Quinn (Bridgertons), Mary Balogh (Huxtable, Bedwyn), Joanna Bourne, Elizabeth Hoyt, Jo Goodman (Compass Club), Jo Beverley (Malloren, Rogues), to name a few. One of my all-time favorite romances is Love in the Afternoon, the final book in Lisa Kleypas’s Hathaway series (which is connected to the earlier Wallflower series).

I really love series. But see my reading development this year I have habit just read the first book on series, then decide if I want to continue or not. Or I just re-read my favorite series. Bad thing about series is sometimes I don’t have any patience to wait for the next :/

My favorite series right now In Death series (always), Darkest London, Pride series, Elder Races, IAD, LOTU and many more 🙂

Series are fine – I read quite a few – as long as each book still can operate as a stand alone. I rarely read a series from the beginning and if I get confused by too many characters and ther relationships, I will not pick up any other book from that series or even from that author.

Two really long series: Terry Pratchett’s Discworld and Piers Anthony’s Xanth. I’m also still following Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files.

I love series, and could recommend you dozens of them! Just let me know which genre you want to start reading. If you like some historicals, here are some of my favourite authors: Suzanne Enoch, Sabrina Jeffries, Karen Hawkins, Melissa Mayhue, Lisa Kleypas, Jude Deveraux, Bertrice Small (though those are pretty erotic as well).
