Romance and Me: In Love with a Superhero

Hey Everyone!

For some time now I wanted to discuss superhero romances with you, because as always I would be grateful for any great recommendations 😉

Being an enthusiastic superhero fan is something of a more recent thing for me, I didn’t grow up reading superhero comics or watching cartoons featuring them (though I remember that when I went over to a guy friend’s birthday party in kindergarten we watched an episode of Spiderman). If I think hard when trying to pin point where my interest for superheroes started I go back to high school when I stumbled upon Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. I LOVED how that show wasn’t just about the “boring science fiction/comic stuff” but featured interesting characters with relatable problems/thoughts/feelings and lots of humour, and most importantly I was a sucker for the developing romance between Lois and Clark *sighs* 😀 Yes, that was definitely the moment that opened my eyes to Superman and the appeal of superheroes 😉

Lois & Clark

And now that I am blogging I was curious to see if the love of superheroes transcended the world of TV and movies and was present in books as well and that’s how I stumbled upon Jennifer Estep’s Bigtime series, which is a very funny tongue-in-cheek superhero romance series I greatly enjoy. Then recently Entangled Publishing released the Holding Out For a Hero anthology – featuring 4 superhero romance novellas by Christine Bell – Ella Dane, Tamara Morgan, Nico Rosso and Adrien-Luc Sanders.

But I want more. So if you know of, or have read any superhero romances please tell me, I’d love to read more about the fantastic adventures and larger than life love of heroes and heroines who can fly, bend steel or breathe fire 😀

I only found this one and lonely list on Goodreads about Superhero Romances.

So tell me,

Are you a superhero fan?

Who is your favourite superhero and why?

Do you have a favourite series or movie, which is about a superhero?

Do you have any great superhero romances you could recommend?

Thanks! 😀

I did grow up reading comic superhero books, and still love those from time to time. Fantastic Four, Xmen, The Avengers, Superman, Batman, Spiderman, Wonderwoman, you name it. I also love the Marvel movies of late, Iron Man 1 and 2, Thor, Avengers, Captain America.
I think the only superhero books I have read, are Sign of the Zodiac by Vicky Petterson. But I did not really like those, very different. You could give it a try though.
I still have to read the books by Jennifer Estep.

I haven’t seen many superhero movies, so I guess I’ll have to catch up. You should try the Bigtime series, I loved Karma Girl, so funny! 😀

I love superheroes and I enjoy comics, cartoons and movies about The Avengers, X-Men and Justice League.

Can you believe I have only seen the first 2 X-Men? I’ll have to remedy that asap…

Don’t see the third X-men movie. It’s truly terrible. As is Wolverine. Skip right on to X-men First Class. You have a chance here that other X-men fans do not. Embrace it!

Yes I certainly am a superhero fan.

All of them are favorites but one special one? Batman.

    Avengers!!!

Cynthia Eden started a series with superheroes but only one so far so I’m hoping she will continue it.

Thanks for the recommendation Diane I’ll have to check out Cynthia’s book then. Batman, huh? I haven’t seen/read anything about/with him, will have to remedy that if you say he’s great 😉

I was skimming the home page of BLI and saw your “BORING SCIENCE FICTION STUFF” remark. It might as well have been in flashing red letters, taunting me.

    HERESY AND SACRILEGE.

I advise you to read After the Golden Age by Carrie Vaughn post-haste. To remedy the situation.

LOL but you see that I put it between “” marks, meaning that was what my younger and sillier self thought back then.. 😀

And thanks for the tip 😉

I honestly haven’t read any superhero books! But I should definitely try to because I LOVED the recent movies that have been out (especially Iron Man and the Avengers).
