Title: Dead Ever After
Author: Charlaine Harris
Series: Sookie Stackhouse, #13
Genre: urban fantasy
Release date: May 7, 2013 by Ace

Description:

Sookie Stackhouse has one last adventure in store.

Life has taken her from a waitress in Merlotte’s Bar, Bon Temps, to part owner; from social outcast to the heart of her community; from a vampire’s girlfriend to the wife of one of the most powerful vampires in the state. She has survived earthquakes, revolutions and attempts on her life. Sookie has endured betrayal, heartbreak and grief . . . and she has emerged a little stronger, and little wiser, every time.

But with life comes new trials . . .

The question is, in the end: who will love, who will live, and who will be dead ever after?

Sookie finds it easy to turn down the request of former barmaid Arlene when she wants her job back at Merlotte’s. After all, Arlene tried to have Sookie killed. But her relationship with Eric Northman is not so clearcut. He and his vampires are keeping their distance…and a cold silence. And when Sookie learns the reason why, she is devastated.

Then a shocking murder rocks Bon Temps, and Sookie is arrested for the crime. But the evidence against Sookie is weak, and she makes bail. Investigating the killing, she’ll learn that what passes for truth in Bon Temps is only a convenient lie. What passes for justice is more spilled blood. And what passes for love is never enough…

. . .

Another robust week of book releases (the list above is, of course, pared down considerably).  A few mega releases, and some not-so-hidden gems abound from a range of genres.

Though its the featured book in this New Releases set, I think just about enough has been expressed about Dead Ever After, the final Sookie Stackhouse novel, that I can’t possibly add anything else new to the dialogue. Nonetheless, I will still say that, love it or hate it, this is the end of a pretty epic series. Sookie arguably did for her subgenre what Bella Swan did for hers (that is, be one of the first super mainstream ubiquitous titles of the subgenre). Leads one to wonder…what’s Ms. Harris going to work on next???

Quite a few YA dystopia titles, including The 5th Wave (billed as The Passage meets Enders Game…pretty bold claim there!), Icons, Coda, and The End Games. It’s warmer and sunnier for most, but if you like some darkness in your summertime reading

New series alert! Katie MacAlister, Jean Johnson, M.L. Brennan, Alyssa Day, Amanda Forester, Carey Baldwin, Amy Tintera, and Jo Davis bring brand spanking new series fodder (some of which are author debuts).

. . .

Series come, series go…any that are getting added to your TBR pile?

I’ll have to get Time Thief and The 5th Wave. Alien in the House has already been acquired. I might also have to check out Beauty.

Definitely looking forward to Jo Davis’ new release and series.

Only two Paul Marron covers and one barely counts since it’s of his back.

I have already read Alien in the House, and the new Alyssa Day, Lynn Viehl are on their way. I really want the new Jean Johnson book, first in a new series, but the price has to go down (or I will buy it when I have my “vacation money” end of the month).

I have to confess that I read the Sookie book yesterday, and several others here are on my TBR or wishlist pile.
