Romance and Me: My Favourite Moment in a Romance

Hi Everyone!

I’m sure with such a title I caught your attention and you are on pins and needles to learn what is that thing/moment/detail that I love the most in romances, the one thing I am looking forward to when opening the book 😉

I’ll tell you that while I really enjoy seeing how the author writes that first scene when the hero and heroine finally meet, it’s not that. (Btw if you want to read a truly memorable and unforgettable first-meeting-scene check out the one between Ali and Luke in Jill Shalvis’ It Had to Be You). But back to our topic.

It’s not even the first kiss. Sure once I meet the hero and heroine and see the sparks flying and how potent their chemistry is I can’t wait for them to finally lock lips and see all that attraction explode, and yet there is something else I love even more than the first kiss.

And nope, you didn’t guess right if you bet that it would be the first love scene. While I’m usually impatient to get there (aren’t those the good parts? *wiggles eyebrows* ;-)), there is one other moment that trumps everything.

And it’s not the big “I love you declaration”, nor the proposal scene. It’s not the wedding or the first hugging scene.

So do you have an idea where we are heading? Time to place your bets now…

Ok, I’ll tell you: it is the BIG CRISIS I love the most! When I read about the misunderstanding/fight/obstacle that seems to ruin everything/separate the lovebirds, when along with the hero and heroine I feel my heart break, my gut clench, tears burn my throat and the emotions run wild and make me pant and cry with emotional empathy. And no, I’m not a masochist, I just think that in this moment the whole story reaches its climax and if an author does it well it can make me, the reader feel things so realistically I get to share the characters’ life and emotions and become part of the story. So I start every story with the anticipation of seeing what the author has in store for me at 90% of the book and how that big crisis will shake me up. The more (emotionally) raw the crisis makes me feel the better! 😉

So tell me,

What is your favourite part in a story?

The getting to know of the characters?

The development of their romance? The first kiss/love scene?

Or are you like me and crave the heart-wrenching crisis?

Or something completely different?

Let me know, I’m curious 😀

i love the moment when they realise they are in love but i admit the crisis is also important to make them more realist the love is there but they must work to make it last

My favorite part of the romance is where they bond over the awesomeness of dragons.

LOL I could have bet that would be your fav moment! 😀 If only more books had them.. 😉

I promise to refer you to any books that have them. Because what is the point of a romance without dragons?

My favorite part is the tension buildup between the characters right before they get together.

I like it when, if done right, they get over that hump, that crisis, and they realize that they’re meant to be.

I do often love their first meeting scene. How their relationship builds up. A book is a good one, when the author manages to hit my emotions. Be it a smile or a tear or a sigh when the book is finished.
