You might remember one of my newly discovered favourite authors, the lovely Victoria James, whose debut novel The Billionaire’s Christmas Baby became a favourite read of 2012. Victoria is back at BLI for her blog tour celebrating the release of her latest novel The Best Man’s Baby, the second book in her Red River series, and having loved the first book, A Risk Worth Taking, I can’t wait to read what happens next! 😀 So join us as Victoria tells us a bit more about her favourite part of writing a book as well as sharing an exclusive excerpt, oh and of course there is a giveaway waiting for you at the end! 😉

Thank you so much for having me back at Book Lovers Inc. 😀

One of my favourite parts in a book (either reading or writing) is the dialogue. I love fast-paced, witty banter between the hero and heroine. And I find that the more humorous they are together, the greater the emotional impact when they have a conversation where serious, deep dialogue happens.

In my current release, The Best Man’s Baby, my hero and heroine couldn’t be more different. Claire Holbrook, the daughter of a minister, has tried to always do the right thing. Jake Manning, the town’s bad-boy has never done the right thing. Until now. After their one night with ‘no strings’ Claire finds herself pregnant. Even though she’s always been secretly in love with Jake, she’s not ready to give up her dreams of marrying a man who is her soul mate. Jake has to convince Claire that he should be the only man in her life-and the only man to raise their child. As they embark on this journey together, they discover that the passion they shared that one night can’t be extinguished, and it’s only just the beginning of a powerful love…

I thought I’d share an exclusive excerpt from The Best Man’s Baby with you! Hope you enjoy!

He stood behind her and whispered in her ear. “I’m not leaving.”

She sighed and turned around to look at him. They were standing a few inches apart, and for what had to be the hundredth time in two days he wondered how he’d never noticed her eyes.
Big and bright, but with a soul that hinted at such emotion and fire, it filled him with the need to see how deep it went.

“What are you doing here?”

“Helping.”

“You have never been back here in all the years I’ve been in business.”

“Things are different now. We’re having a baby.”

“Shhhh!” He bit back another grin as she turned her head around wildly to make sure no one had heard.

“Listen, you’re not getting rid of me. I’m here to help. Then when you’re finished, I’m going to take you out for dinner.”

He saw her cheeks flush, then she shook her head. “I have a long day ahead of me. No time for any distractions.”

“Perfect, so afterward you’ll need some time to relax. I’ll take you out to your favorite restaurant.”

“You don’t even know what that is.”

“Then you can tell me.” It was simple, really. He didn’t understand why that would upset her.

“You should know what it is. In the Claire Holbrook world, the father of my child should know my favorite restaurant,” she whispered.

“Just tell me and we’ll go,” he said with a shrug.

She shook her head, her ponytail swinging back and forth with the motion. He wondered what she’d do if he pulled her hair free, letting his hands run through it as it tumbled around her
shoulders. He stared at her mutinous expression. She’d probably try to deck him.

I hope you enjoyed that excerpt! Thanks again for having me back at Book Lovers Inc. I love visiting!

The Best Man’s Baby by Victoria James

Book #2 in the Red River series

Florist Claire Holbrook has always played by the rules her entire life, but breaks them to spend one night with sexy lone wolf Jake Manning, a man she’s adored since she was a teenager. Six weeks later, things get complicated when she discovers they created a bond that will last a lifetime

Jake has never played by the rules. Getting Minister Holbrook’s daughter pregnant wasn’t part of any life plan, but he won’t run from his responsibilities. He’ll step up and be the best man he can, even if he doesn’t have a clue where to begin. The more time he spends with Claire, though, the more he wants her, and the harder it is to get close, because that would mean sharing the one thing he hasn’t with anyone–the truth and his heart.

When my husband and I moved into our house we had to redo everything. Colors were the easiest to compromise on, it seemed everything else was a battle.
The thing that draws me is good writing nd storytelling. If the book can’t keep my interest, it doesn’t matter how many sexy scenes there are because I won’t read the book long enough to find out.

Even though I love the steamy scenes, my absolute favorite part of a book is the happy ending. I just love a happily ever after (DUH!) and I seriously judge a book by the very last words. 😉

Witty dialogues all the way! They have to make me laugh or smile to be approved as a fave~ But heartfelt descriptions or sweet cute moments are also a must. But those small touching/surprising lines said by the hero or heroine unexpectedly are also to die for.

I love witty dialogue when I’m in the moment, but it’s the emotional bits that stick with me in the long-term.

  • bn100 August 23, 2013 at 11:14 pm

That’s a great question because I like all of those things. Witty dialog would be the most important part of the book without it you relly don’t have a book. I’m reading this book now and it’s really good.
