Title: Perdition
Author: Ann Aguirre
Series: Dred Chronicles, #1
Genre: science fiction
Release date: August 27, 2013 by Ace

Description:

The prison ship Perdition, a floating city where the Conglomerate’s most dangerous criminals are confined for life, orbits endlessly around a barren asteroid.

Life inside is even more bleak. Hailed as the Dread Queen, inmate Dresdemona “Dred” Devos controls one of Perdition’s six territories, bordered on both sides by would-be kings eager to challenge her claim. Keeping them at bay requires constant vigilance, as well as a steady influx of new recruits to replace the fallen. Survival is a constant battle, and death is the only escape.

Of the newest convicts, only one is worth Dred’s attention. The mercenary Jael, with his deadly gaze and attitude, may be the most dangerous criminal onboard. His combat skill could give her the edge she needs, if he doesn’t betray her first. Unfortunately, that’s what he does best. Winning Jael’s allegiance will be a challenge, but failure could be worse than death…

. . .

Water, water everywhere, and every drop to drink! This week brings with it a plethora of new series, old series, and standalones across all sorts of genres. Like glitter in the wind, this week’s group!

Standout new series titles include the new Ann Aguirre spinoff (starting with the long-awaited Perdition, set in the universe of the beloved Sirantha Jax books), and a new PNR series by Erin Quinn, starting with the awesomely-titled The Five Deaths of Roxanne Love (and if the early reviews are to be believed, it’ll be a must-read). Sophie Barnes brings the At the Kingsbrough Ball series of HR novels, and Katherine Asche brings her own new The Prince Catchers books.

Then we have heavyweights Jennifer Estep, Susan Mallery, and Kerrelyn Sparks hitting us with the latest from their long-running series–Elemental Assassin; Parable, Montana; and Love at Stake, respectively.

New releases to look out for? One particularly attention-grabbing title, Two Boys Kissing, looks to be an amazing contemporary LGBT young adult novel; Megan Hart’s new Tear You Apart is sure to bring the heat as well as the tough moral questions to keep ya thinking; and Cast in Sorrow, the latest Chronicles of Elantra book, is almost certainly going to own–own us all.

Buck up, ladies and gents. Looks like August won’t go out without a fight!

. . .

It’s a free-for-all! Gonna be picking up anything from the big group of releases this week?

    • Alisha August 30, 2013 at 1:41 am

Very cool! Is that b/c you liked the first in this series, or more b/c you dig the author herself? (or both?)

  • ki pha August 27, 2013 at 6:22 pm

Most of the books I want are on there for reals!

    • Alisha August 30, 2013 at 1:40 am

I can already see your TBR list cryin’ for mercy!

Yep, got a number of these books. I had forgotten the Estep book was coming out today. I’m developing a bit of a love-hate feeling for this series, but will still read this book asap.

The cover of the Neville book makes me laugh.

    • Alisha August 30, 2013 at 1:39 am

LOL the guy on the Neville cover totally looks like he’s trying to foot-hug the heroine! ^_^ That, or trample her…

Estep series love-hate? Will need to pick your brain on that some time. Only on book 5…currently at “love, but afraid to read further”

So many great books, I’m curious about Burn with me, I didn’t know this one.

    • Alisha August 30, 2013 at 1:36 am

Awesome cover for that one! And it does sound pretty intriguing. Well, it is just $3.85 this week (because of the publisher’s “opening week discount” rule)! ^_^

So many gorgeous covers! Pre ordered: Jayne Castle and some others 🙂

    • Alisha August 30, 2013 at 1:33 am

JAK, as I will now never forget. ^_^ (thanks again!) Totally agree, the cover spread this week is really purty!
