Interview: Author, Shannon Baker with Giveaway!

Today, we are excited to have debut novelist, Shannon Baker here to discuss her mystery/thriller, Ashes of the Red Heifer. She is also generously offering one copy of the book as a giveaway to one of our readers!

As soon as I heard this book was coming out I contacted the author and said “I need to read this book and would love the opportunity to review it!” A few months later I had the book in my hand and although I am only about halfway through it I can honestly say that it was worth the wait. Within the first few pages the action and mystery start and so far haven’t stopped – the pacing is ideal for the content. All YA Love: Interview with Debut Author, Mara Purnhagen

Today, I’m excited to share with you an interview with Mara Purnhagen, author of Tagged. Her debut novel is set for release next week on March 1st through Harlequin, be sure to check it out!

BLI: Graffiti is not a common topic seen in books, where did the idea for this book come from?

Mara: When I wrote Tagged in 2007, I had just discovered the work of Banksy, a British graffiti artist. I highly recommend checking out his web site as well as his book, Wall and Piece.

BLI: I love the colorful cover! It shows graffiti with 2 ‘normal’ kids just hanging out yet when I think of graffiti, rough looking kids come to mind. What does this tell us about the book?

Mara: Thanks! I love the colors, too, and I hope the cover conveys that the main characters are very average kids.

BLI: Gorilla’s are found spray painted around …

Passion
I am a passionate person.  I’m passionate about my family and my children…my pets, my parents, my political values, my sports teams, my exercise, my food and wine, and my spiritual beliefs.  I’m even passionate about my ketchup – there better be plenty of it served with my French fries!
I’m especially passionate about words.  Words have the power to change the world.  Let’s not kid ourselves – throughout history, the written word has provided impetus for forward progress.  It’s given us something else, pleasure, pure pleasure and an invaluable venue to express our imaginations.  I love the written word.  Books, magazines, newspapers, ebooks – I love ‘em all!
So how much fun is it to be a writer?  Hey, for …

“How Home-Schooling Inspired My Writing”

My schooling was quite unconventional compared to my friends. While my friends rode off to first grade in a yellow school bus, I went to a Montessori school where they didn’t know what grades (neither years nor marks) meant. In high school when kids stayed up late to study for tests, I was up all night with a goat in labor. In many ways I envied the “normal” childhood of others and wanted very much to be a part of it. Or at least the idealized part of …
