I love characters who eat! Guestpost by B.J. Daniels + Giveaway

Today we’re happy to welcome B.J. Daniels on Book Lovers Inc. Her new novel Justice at Cardwell Ranch is being released today! This is the 4th book in her Montana Mystique series. Congratulations on this new release! Prepare to be hungry because B.J. Daniels will tell us about her love for food in books. Don’t forget to enter the giveaway to win your own copy of the book.

I love characters who eat!

Don’t you hate books where the characters never eat? They don’t even think about food.

That’s one reason I’ve always loved James Lee Burke’s books. His characters eat dirty rice and crawdads and other great Cajun fare.

I remember reading one of Sue Grafton’s mysteries. The bad guys were making enchiladas down by the Salton Sea from some great recipe the bad guy had. (I mean, how bad could he be if he cooked?) Sue escaped …

Guest Post by Mary Whitney + Giveaway

Today we are really excited here at Book Lovers Inc to welcome author Mary Whitney in celebration of her newest release, A Political Affair and to talk about, what else, politics! Don’t be afraid, we won’t just start talking about politics strictly, but how there’s a more romantic side to the whole politics setting. (Like always, don’t forget to check at the end of the post for the details of our giveaway)

A Political Affair by Mary Whitney

With all the mud flying about during this election season, it’s hard to see anything romantic about politics. Mud doesn’t make anyone look or smell good. Even when we’re out of the nasty election cycle, if we do hear of romance in politics, it isn’t sweet at all. It’s usually something tawdry, where more often than not, innocent families are hurt because of a politician’s hubris.

Yet we’re all easily drawn to elected officials—even those we …

Guest Post by Amber Lynn Natusch + Giveaway

Today we’re here to welcome Amber Lynn Natusch to Book Lovers Inc.  Amber Lynn is stopping by today as part of her Got Caged? tour to give us a glimpse into her favorite scenes from Caged.  And also a peek into the anxiety producing moments that an author experiences when confronted with the request for a guest post! Who knew?

Please welcome Amber Lynn and don’t forget to check at the end of the post for the details on our giveaway!

When I was asked to compose a guest blog post, I had no idea what to write. As an author, it was an especially low moment. Then a great friend suggested that I take an excerpt from the first novel in my series, Caged, and explain what I loved about it. Genius! Times like this illustrate my need for a team of levelheaded people around me―an entourage of rational thinkers.

The unfortunate …

The Sudarium of Oviedo
by Claire Ashgrove

Hi all! Thanks for having me here today. Let’s talk about relics, shall we? Specifically, the Sudarium of Oviedo. What is this elusive piece of cloth I incorporated into Immortal Surrender?

Well, some of you already know that the Sudarium of Ovideo is a bloodstained cloth, similar to the Shroud of Turin, that was recorded in The Gospel of John to be wrapped around the head of Christ …

Guestpost by Zoë Archer: Love Those Cowboys! + Giveaway

Today we are happy to welcome Zoë Archer on Book Lovers Inc! Zoë will tell us about her book Lady X’s Cowboy and why she loves Cowboys. Join the fun and you may win a copy of the book. Let’s give a warm welcome to Zoë!

What is it about the cowboy hero that’s so damned appealing? Why do so many of us love to see them in movies, on television, and read about them?

For starters, the outfit’s pretty sexy. Rugged clothes? Check! Leather chaps that accentuate the butt? Check! Cool hat that casts mysterious shadows over a man’s eyes? Check! And a man on horseback is definitely alluring, especially if the territory he’s riding over is rough and dangerous—but he can handle himself and his mount (heh). Cowboys have to be physically strong to do their work, so you already know he’d going to be fit, …

Guest post by C.C. Humphreys + Giveaway

Today we’re here to welcome historical novelist C.C. Humphreys to Book Lovers Inc. His guest post is on a topic that has always fascinated me, the line between realistic historical fiction and something I guess you might call historical fantasy. Not totally made up history, but history where magic sometimes happens, alongside verifiable historic events.

As it does in C.C. Humphreys’ story of war with a little magic, A Place Called Armageddon. It’s about the 1453 siege of Constantinople, a place that has always been more than a bit magical, all by itself.

Fantasy? In historical fiction?
by C.C. Humphreys

Interesting questions. It is something I have considered. And I think it comes down to what I call ‘a hammock moment’.

I was lying in my hammock – a rare and so especially wonderful laziness – and this sentence popped into my head:

“Magic happens to people who believe in magic.”

I think that is absolutely …

Of course we’re excited, we’re all hyped up on lots of yummy chocolate after reading her delightfully delicious chocolate-covered fairy tale, The Sweetest Spell (review later today). And if you’re craving a little chocolate fairy tale of your own, just answer Suzanne’s question for a chance at to win your very own copy of The Sweetest Spell!

Love + Chocolate = The Sweetest Spell

By Suzanne Selfors

How to take the fairy-tale formula of peasant girl meets prince and make it even more romantic? In my opinion, you add chocolate.

There are few things in life that stir such passion as a square of dark chocolate. I crave it. I LOVE it.

I’d …

My husband and I are trying (desperately) to buy a 1900 Victorian home just off the square in a neighboring town. I don’t think the deal will go through, unfortunately, but I’m hopeful that it will. I’m hopeful that in a few short months, we’ll be patching up walls and cleaning hundred year old floors and sleeping in a creaky house with double hung windows. When I walk in that house, I feel the history and …
