One Good Lady Is About to Go Bad. . .

The only thing Miss Melissa Goodly has ever wanted out of a marriage is love. But any hope of that dissolves one wild night, when she loses herself in the arms of the most irresistible–and unobtainable–man in all of England. For when they are discovered in a position as compromising as it is pleasurable, she has no choice but to accept his proposal.

Avowed bachelor Anthony Craven, Earl of Wickham, never meant to seduce an innocent like Melissa. Yet now that the damage is done, it does seem like she’d make a very convenient wife. After all, she is …

Around the Bookish World: News Week-in-Review

Wow this week we have had major news shaking up publishing and ebooks, so it is a bit jam packed issue in today’s news post.
The biggest and most contraversial announcement though has to be HarperCollins’ announcement that their ebooks would be restricted with a 26 borrowed limit. As you can imagine this has ignited the ire of many librarians and their patrons about this because the limit is set at such a low level.

HarperCollins have responded in an open letter to libraries and library users to explain this new measure by saying this would be a way to protect ebook growth and market. Below is an extract of an open letter explaining this and click here for the full statement:

We have serious concerns that our previous e-book policy, selling e-books to libraries in perpetuity, if left unchanged, would undermine …

Clara Gardner has recently learned that she’s part angel. Having angel blood run through her veins not only makes her smarter, stronger, and faster than humans (a word, she realizes, that no longer applies to her), but it means she has a purpose, something she was put on this earth to do. Figuring out what that is, though, isn’t easy. Her visions of a raging forest fire and an alluring stranger lead her to a new school in a new town. When she meets Christian, who turns out to be the boy of her dreams (literally), everything seems to fall into place—and out of place at the same time. Because there’s another …

This week has been pretty interesting with some surprising and not so surprising news!

Barnes and Noble has announced their recent profits from the last 3rd quarter, although there was losses compared to the previous year, growth of their ebooks sales have risen that they have claimed that they are now selling more in that format than in print. In fact they have also claimed that they are selling twice as many ebooks in any print format in their site. So according to their press release this means they have cornered 25 percent of online sales of ebooks? Because like Amazon who have claimed they have 70/80 percent of market shares of the market, although both have not offered hard data/figures to corroborate this claim. But it does seem that Barnes and Noble will be hopefully …

After last week’s epic news post and the authors gone HULK, things have been quite subdued this week, with some depressing and sad news of bankruptancy and deaths.

The biggest announcement has to be Borders filing for Chapter 11 insolvency and will be entering administration. Sadly 200 of their 600 megastores will be closing and around 6000 employees will face redundancies. This will also affect publishers which Borderes owes millions of dollars of debt and in turn as this article highlights will affect authors, because the majority of books being sold are via stores like Borders.

Another struggling mega store chain owner REDgroup is also facing bankruptancy, but this time its in Australia. Ironically enough they also own the Australian arm of Borders as well as, Angus and Robertson and Whitcoulls in New Zealand. This shows that traditional brick …

When Authors Go Mad and Mad AND HULK

This week has heralded another entry (actually make that TWO- I just received breaking news whilst writing this post) for authors behaving badly. In fact we have had to make this a special post because, this would overshadow the general news post and I think that would be a disservice to it because I think after reading this post – it can never be stressed enough. Don’t react this way when you’re an author, a reviewer or a blogger.

Chiclit author, Sylvia Massara blogged about unprofessional reviewers who reviewed one of her books and created a huge backlash. My fellow Book Pusher – MinnChica gives a great summary of this brouhaha here at our blog . However she wrote this before Massara re-edited her post to remove her linking to Book Binge and another reviewer who also reviewed the …

Welcome back to the first News Post after our Big Birthday Bonanza! Hope y’all enjoyed it!
Well this week we have had some interesting developments in the world of ebooks and Agency Pricing and we have some great upcoming books and covers that was unveilled!

Agency pricing seems to be heading into some rough territory this week especially in the UK. The Office of Fair Trading will be investigating the legality of this move after receiving complaints. I am not an expert but in the early 1990s the Net Book Agreement (NBA) which disallowed any kind of discounting on print books was deemed illegal and uncompetitive and was replaced with Recommended Retail Price which allowed retailers to discount books from their recommended price. A lot of people in the industry feel that Agency pricing is very similar and may …
