I’m very happy to welcome one of my all time favorite authors, Megan Hart here at Book Lovers Inc today. I have a shelf dedicated to her books and I treasure every single one of them. Megan’s newest novel, Collide is out in stores today and she is here today to tell us a bit about her work. My review of Collide can be found here.
Please give Megan a warm welcome and check out the giveaway at the end.

BLI: Megan can you please tell us a bit about yourself?
Megan: Sure! I was born in Pennsylvania and have lived here almost my entire life. I live in the woods but spend a lot of time at the Delaware shore. I love the beach! I’ve always wanted to be a writer, and I’m so glad I’m able to make a go of it.
BLI: Many of your fans equate your stories with extraordinarily emotional reads about flawed people who enter into relationships that are very complex. Is there any specific event that triggers the ideas for your stories? Or does the muse strike at any time for you and you take note and build on it when the time is right?
Megan: Lots of people ask me if I write from real life, and the short answer is “Yes!” The longer answer is that everything that I see, hear, read, smell, taste, touch, experience or hear about other people experiencing…every conversation, every book, movie, random magazine article…every person I meet randomly at a party, a bar, a convention…all of that gets mixed into the blender in my head, and it gets churned up and comes out in different pieces that sometimes fit together to make a story.
BLI: What can we expect of Collide?
Megan: I hope readers will enjoy Collide for being a sexy, romantic story with a few twists along the way.
BLI: Emmaline is prone to fugue states, which in psychiatric terms is a Dissociative disorder. This type of condition basically causes a reversible amnesia which can be associated with travel or wondering. Can you tell readers a little more about Emm’s character and maybe expand on her condition?
Megan: Well…the premise for Collide came about from a late night conversation a friend and I had, about what we would do if we could go back in time and umm…become romantically involved…with someone from the past. Who would we pick, and why? The book started to form then, but I needed a reason for Emm to experience that time travel. I came up with the idea that she travelled mentally, rather than physically. (Unlike in say, The Time Traveler’s Wife, in which the time traveller physically moves through time in his actual body.) Once I decided it was going to be a mental shift, I needed to figure out a way for that to make sense. The brain is a strange and wonderful organ, and so much isn’t known about how it works. So I went with her having fugues, since they can’t really always diagnose brain injuries or their symptoms.
BLI: How did you come up with the medical condition Emm has to live with? It is rather rare. How did you research this topic?
Megan: I did a bit of online research and asked my medical consultant, but the bottom line is: I was writing about time travel. That’s not “real.” Brain injuries and diseases can cause many, many different symptoms and conditions — even the same diagnosis can show with very different symptoms and causes. So. Basically, as with most everything I write, I made it all up.
BLI: Johnny Dellasandro is a reclusive artist who sounds to have lived a somewhat hedonistic lifestyle in the 70’s. Emm becomes obsessed with Johnny and becomes involved with him 30 years in the past after experiencing one of her fugue states. Would you describe this novel as an erotic romance or an erotic time-travel fantasy? (Or maybe a little of both?)
Megan: I’d say it’s a bit of both. Collide, to me, is a very romantic story about two people whom the universe has thrown together, and nothing can keep them apart. They’re meant for each other, even before they know it.
BLI: Johnny is a very complex character. I really needed some time to get comfy with him. He is very distanced and aloof at first- for me it was hard to connect to someone you actually don’t know. Why did you decide for this approach for his character? To introduce him in such an indirect way?
Megan: Johnny in the “Now” has a lot to deal with. I mean, you’re talking about time travel. He already knows Emm before she even shows up and meets him — but to her, he’s a stranger. How would you feel about seeing the love of your life, and she doesn’t even know who you are?
BLI: What created the appeal of Johnny for Emm even though he’s not at all the charmer at first?
Megan: COSMIC UNIVERSAL FORCES!
BLI: You know we have some HEA lovers in our staff and they want to know if they will get their HEA fix in Collide?
Megan: Absolutely!

BLI: You have written connected stories in the past, are you planning story that will be connected to Collide?

Megan: Collide is sort of connected to Broken (just a little) as well as sort of, kind of, a little bit, to my upcoming The Space Between Us. I don’t have plans at the moment to write a connecting book to Collide itself, but I’m sure I will.
BLI: You have penned novels in both first and third person. Do you have a preference?
Megan: Nope, I’m bi-viewpoint.
BLI: What can readers expect next from the desk of Megan Hart?
Megan: Hmm, tough one, since whatever I’m working on is not usually what will be out next. Umm…more…stuff?
BLI: Can you summarize Collide for us twitterstyle (140 characters or less)?
Megan: I cannot. I fail.
BLI: What did you always want to ask your reader? This is your chance!
Megan: I’d like to know: where’d you get that blouse? SO CUUUUUUTE!
BLI: Thank you, I know! (whispers H&M)

I sooo love Megan Harts books…i really enjoy how she usually has a character in the wings that becomes a main character in an upcoming novel…then they all kinda blend together whether happily or not…just depends…love the real life feel to all the characters (flaws and life changing mistakes)

    thanks for the giveaway

    respectfully a fan

I'm not entering the giveaway. I just wanted to say that I read Collide over the weekend and LOVED it! I really loved the ending of the book (don't worry – no spoilers). I read it in one sitting because I had to find out how everything would be wrapped up.

Congrats on the release of Collide Megan!

It's reviews and interviews like this one that make reading book blogs so dangerous…to my wallet. I'm off to get some Megan Hart backlist.

This book sounds really interesting to me. I'm not a fan of physical time travel in books, but the idea of mental time travel is very intriguing. I'll definitely have to check it out.

I love the cover of Collide. It's sort of dreamy. I think it is so interesting that the heroine has fugue states. What a different twist. Megan Hart is such a great author. Her books are so full of emotion.

This is fascinating – I had no idea such medical conditions exist! There must have gone an awful lot of reserach into this book, which btw sounds really intriguing!
