Guest Post: Some of my FAQs by Erin Nicholas + Giveaway

Today we are very happy to welcome back to Book Lovers Inc. the wonderful Erin Nicholas, whose steamy and funny contemporary romances are better than adult candy – and they sure are gobbled up just as fast ;-p Erin is here to celebrate the release of Just My Type, the 3rd book in her Bradfords series in paperback! If you haven’t  discovered yet Erin Nicholas and her novels, now is the time, trust me you’ll love them (you can find my review here if you’d like a first glimpse), and she is giving away a copy of Just My Type to a lucky commenter! Erin, take it away. 🙂

Just My Type—the third book in the Bradfords series—is the latest book of mine to go into print (August 2). But it’s been out in e-formats since last September and since that time I’ve gotten some frequent questions from readers. I love answering these so thought I’d share today. (oh, and all commenters will be entered to win a copy of Just My Type (print or e-book in the US or e-book outside of the US!).

1. What’s with the guy on the cover having so much hair when Mac actually shaves his head?

(this and question #4 are absolutely the most common questions! 🙂
Yeah. I mentioned that too. Thing is, bald heroes don’t sell as well as the ones with hair. Apparently. Still… the Mac on the cover isn’t bad to look at, right? 🙂
2. Sara comes off as such a snob at first—am I going to hate her?
I know. I worried about this as I wrote her story. She’s definitely… a lot of work. But, that’s her. (you can read more about that here). I couldn’t change her personality and who she is and how she acts are certainly part of her story. All of that is part of the drama, and part of her growth and development… so yeah, she gets over it 🙂
3. This is the third of the Bradford books—do we get to see all the past characters again?
Definitely. Just My Type starts out at Sam and Danika’s wedding in fact! And yes, all the guys, plus Jessica, are in the book too. We even get to see laid-back Sam in a new light—protective older brother!
4. So, is this the last Bradford book then? I’d love to see Dooley and Kevin have books too!

Me too! You’re right when you say that they’re part of the family too. And it’s going to happen. Dooley and Kevin’s books are in the works! 🙂 So, I guess the answer to the question about it being the last book is no!

5. How did you decide to write three siblings? Couldn’t they have had some long lost step siblings or cousins or something?
Well, honestly, when I was writing Just Right, the first book (Ben and Jessica’s story), I didn’t intend for this to be a series anyway! In developing and getting to know Jessica, I got to know her younger brother, Sam and her little sister, Sara. They are, of course, a big part of who Jessica is. But that was where I figured it would end. Until I actually got to The End. Then I realized that I was really curious about what kind of woman would finally tame Sam Bradford. And Just Like That came to be. Then in that book I realized that Mac, one of Sam’s best friends, had some not-very-brotherly feelings for little Sara… and I had to find out how that turned out too! Hence, a three book series. Well, five… see the answer to question #4 :-).
I have some more of my Frequently Asked Questions continued over on the Ex Libris blog today (with an additional giveaway!) so stop over there too for more info about me, Just My Type and all the Bradfords!
Secretly wanting her—no problem. Her not-so-secretly wanting him—big trouble.
The Bradfords, Book 3
There’s only one problem with the woman Jason “Mac” Gordon wants: his best friend’s little sister is off limits. Way off limits, and too young and innocent for the likes of him. From past experience, he’s learned to hide his not-so-nice preferences from the nice girls he seems to attract. That definitely includes the woman he’s always thought of as a sister. At least until recently.
Sara Bradford always gets what she wants—which is partly Mac’s fault. After all, he helped spoil her. So she has no intention of taking his no for an answer on anything—least of all his refusal to sleep with her. He thinks she’s too innocent? Fine. She’ll simply get un-innocent and show Mac that she wants him—the good, the bad and the nipple clamps.
When Mac’s plan to drive her away works too well, he’s forced to follow her to a tropical paradise, determined to make sure she doesn’t find her wild side with anyone but him. Once she gets a real taste of what he likes, he’s sure everything will go back to normal.
That’s until he discovers a slight kink, er, flaw in his logic…

And here’s a little teaser for you:
Mac settled down into his chair and pushed the chair next to him out for her. “Want me to stay over and answer the phone until Tuesday?”
She swiveled on her chair seat to look at him, gauging the motivation behind the offer. She knew he didn’t mean it like that. He’d slept on her couch before.
“Yes,” she said simply.
“I will,” he told her lifting his glass. “But you have to buy Twinkies.”
Mac’s favorite food. Normally, she would roll her eyes and joke about his propensity for junk food. But she was in a mood tonight. She leaned over and put her hand on his hard, flat stomach.
“How do you keep these so tight with all those Twinkies?” She rubbed her hand back and forth over the warm, white linen of his shirt.
Mac seemed to freeze. And stop breathing. His eyes were locked on hers and she felt a current zing between them. She’d never touched him like that. They’d held hands, even hugged before and she’d touched his arms, back, shoulder, even face once, but never his chest, or stomach, or lower.
“Sara?” His voice was definitely hoarse.
“Move your hand.”
She slid it downward and Mac shot back, tipping his chair onto its back legs and throwing him off balance enough that he stumbled to his feet, knocking the chair over.
“Hell, Sara!” he swore. Straightening to his full height and glaring down at her he demanded. “What the hell was that?”
She blinked at him, trying for innocence. “You said…”
“I didn’t mean that!” he snapped.
“Well, why not? I certainly wouldn’t mind doing it.”
He gaped at her and she almost laughed. She’d never seen Mac flabbergasted like this.
“You wouldn’t mind doing what exactly?”
Maybe he thought—or hoped—she was talking about something else. She had to make this clear.
“Putting my hand on your…”
“Okay,” he interrupted, throwing up his hands. “Enough. You’re obviously drunk.”
Instead of looking up and arguing his statement, Sara’s eyes found the object of conversation almost right in front of her. And he looked interested in what she was proposing.
Mac had an erection. Right there. Front and center. Unmistakable.
“You sure you’re not interested?” She looked directly at the tent in his pants.
He quickly righted the chair, sat and dropped his napkin in his lap. “Knock it off.”
“What? You’re telling me you’ve never thought of it? Ever?”
“Of having your hand down my pants at your brother’s wedding? No, I can honestly say I haven’t.” He wouldn’t look at her.
“So when have you thought about having my hand down your pants?”
He opened his mouth, shut it again, shifted in his chair, frowned. “Stop it.”
She scooted her chair closer. “Mac, honestly. Have you ever thought of us together?”
“Sure. We’re together all the time at Sam’s, at the Center and the hospital.” He still wasn’t making eye contact.
Sara touched his knee and he nearly jumped out of his chair again. She smiled. She was no dummy. She had a Master’s degree in psychology and was a licensed Social Worker in Nebraska. She studied people. She’d watched the two people she knew best—her sister Jessica and her brother Sam— fall in love with their spouses. She’d seen the effect that intense attraction had on people and how they acted until they admitted the attraction and did something about it.
“I’m talking about naked, you and me.”
“Of course not,” he answered quickly. Too quickly. He was scowling again. “You’re a kid, like a sister to me.”
He was lying. He had to be lying. Before she could think it out any further and potentially chicken out, Sara slid from her chair to Mac’s lap, cupped the back of his head in both hands and kissed him with all she had.

Sara is not a snob! How could anyone think such a thing? She is the baby of the family (and a girl) with the rights and privileges thereof. No wonder I like her so much… ;p

  • ClaudiaGC August 24, 2011 at 9:11 am

Kim, I know, right? But some readers have found her… spoiled (which she is), and demanding (which she is) and hard to like (which she is not… in my very un-biased opinion ;).

Claudia and Karen, thanks for stopping by! I always love meeting new people this way!

Karen, glad to be on your TBR list! I did have to do some research– into some of the medical issues that one of the boys has in Just Right, MS which is part of Danika's history in Just Like That and into flavored body powder and fun stuff like that in Just My Type (oh, and St. Croix! :))

Smart and snappy dialogue in the teaser. This looks like a well-written, hot romance, and I will definitely be checking out the series. Thanks for the giveaway!

  • Jen B. August 25, 2011 at 8:12 pm

I think publishers need to talk to real women. I hate the covers that have men with long, lady hair unless it really fits the character. I happen to love bald men. LOVE THEM. Can we say Captain Piccard. Point proven. Thanks for the giveaway. I would love to read Just My Type.

  • Erin Nicholas August 25, 2011 at 8:38 pm

I love hearing that other readers love series too. I've always been a sucker for them as a reader… probably why this one evolved so easily into a series for me as a writer 😉 It is fun to see characters return!
Leagh, so glad you liked Just Right! That makes me happy 🙂
Jen, welcome to the Bald Is Beautiful & Hot club! *G* Vin Diesel, the Rock? Hello? Glad I'm not the only one!

I love a series, and I haven't run across this one before. It is one of my pet peeves when the characters on the cover don't match their description, especially the hair.

  • Bookwyrm369 August 26, 2011 at 12:03 pm

Great post! Had to laugh at the cover question – I think bald guys are very sexy so that wouldn't deter me in the least from buying a book! Thanks for the giveaway 🙂

Bald is sexy too! especially bald muscles and tats.sigh!
I do love a series of books with the chance to keep up with characters from earlier books. makes for a much more interesting read for me.

Personally, I love that shaved head look. I don't understand why the publishers are so rigid. Every book cover looks alike (and boring in my opinion) because of that.
