Explore This!: Palm Springs, California

Today, we are whisking away to the sunny locale of Palm Springs, California. When I think of this area, arid temperatures, golf, spas, and the rich and famous all come to mind. What doesn’t equate with Palm Springs is vampires, which is strange when my inspiration has derived from reading Bloodlines by Richelle Mead. In the story, an alchemist is pulled into protection duty for a vampire princess and this seems the perfect spot considering no one would suspect the undead to be found in this hot, sunny city.

The book is filled with some of the references from above, with the rich students attending a private school, where Sydney Sage and the gang are hiding out. In seeing the sites of Palm Springs, I think this would be a great place to be put on assignment, regardless of the scorching heat (and supernatural beings possibly hiding out there):

Again, it is the idea of money tied into Palm Springs that lends it an exclusive feel…

…and with money comes interesting architecture that you don’t find in suburbia.

What a stunning contrast of water, trees, and mountains.

You get a definite “South-West” feeling on this streetscape.

And a casino for winning big.

Even the visitor’s information building has a rich air.

Fortunately, there is also a sense of responsibility to the
earth with this field of windmills.

In its desert setting, a drive outside the city will no doubt have
its share of rock formations.

With “Palm” in the city name, you know there’s no shortage
 of palm trees around.

And such a lovely nighttime vision. Night might be a better time
for those vamps, as deserts do tend to cool off somewhat 😉

What do you think of Palm Springs as a destination? Is it just me that associates only the wealthy with this city? Would it make your travel list? I do love to know!

Gorgeous, and yes, in my Dutch eyes, Palm Springs is an enclave for the rich and famous.
