Bookshelf Porn á la Carolyn Crane + Giveaway

Filed in 1000 follower celebration , Carolyn Crane , Giveaways , Guest Post , The Latin Lover Posted on October 16, 2011 @ 6:00 am 56 comments

Though it is the last day of our Big 1000 Followers Celebrations, fear not because we have some amazing guests to welcome today. Right away here is the wonderful Carolyn Crane, author of the mindblowingly unique and original Disillusionist trilogy, who is here to share with us her book collection(s)! Yay! So I won’t delay you any longer, please give a warm welcome to Carolyn!

Hi Everybody! Greetings, fellow book lovers!First off, congrats to Book Lovers Inc on the big 1-0-0-0! Woo hoo! You don’t look a day over 943. Okay, since this is all about celebrating books, I thought I’d take you to a tour of my shelves. (Does that sound sort of narcissistic? Like, enough about the Booklovers Inc., let’s talk about MY BOOKS.) But, I have taken all these photos. Please, come to my book lair!!

A. A little Devil Ducky from Larissa Ione that I got at AAD! I love that little thing.

B. Do you like the tasteful plant decorations? It’s really there to keep a certain kitty from jumping up on the shelves and knocking the books off, which has proven in the past to provide a bored cat with endless fun.

C. This shelf is a super keeper shelf. Here you will find Megan Hart, Deanna Raybourn, Meredith Duran, Joanna Bourne, Iron Duke. If you were to open up a lot of these books, particularly the Hart and Duran, you would find them greatly underlined and written in. I love ebooks, but for books I treasure and reread, it must be paper because I learn so much from these books and make notes and study them.

D. The second shelf down is massive keeper action, too—Stuart, James, Ivory, a galpal’s galley. A few TBR things. Like the KMM, which I have yet to read. * ducks *

This is our library. Well, it’s also our workout room, though, technically it’s the dining room. But who uses a dining room anymore?

E. My husband’s books, though part of it is our mixed literary books. How did literary get the nice shelves? Even in our home, genre is a second class citizen on the low shelf! No, actually, I like it that way. I tend to sell the ones I won’t keep to my local USB (the awesome Paperback Exchange, in Minneapolis!) So, I don’t need as much shelf space.

F. Blanking on what I had to say about this.

G. That boom box is where we play CDs and cassettes for workouts. lol. Don’t laugh.

H. This is a set of Encyclopedia Britannicas from 1911. It is fun to look at and read and see what they thought was SO important. I can tell you, they really freaked on the tiniest details of mining and engines of different kinds. But there’s lots of interesting arts stuff, too. The articles are by the best-known scholars of the time.

I. Spray that calms down kitties. Don’t you wish they had that for people? It’s funny that it’s near the Lara Adrian and JR Ward books. Because, I can think of a lot of uses for man-calming spray in those books.

J. Ooh, check it out! Promo copies of Mind Games! A lucky international commenter will win one of these babies, signed. (well, lucky unless you read it and decide you hate it!)

K. It is really dangerous to be showing this photo on the Internet, because people will see our boom box and want to break in and steal it. But, I am risking it out of my love for Book Lovers Inc! Nearby, this area is the transit area. Books recently gotten at a USB, or some on their way back.

L. Have you been wondering about the skull? It’s not real, but I got it at the Renaissance festival one year. I really like a skull on a bookshelf.

M. More ultimate fave-ever keepers. My beloved Kresley Cole, some Kushiel books. Some Evanovich, Kelley Armstrong and Anne Stuart. Below more keepers. I love my books so much.

Hey, thanks so much, Book Lovers, for having me. And here’s to books! I wish you all a week and month and year of awesome reading!

xoxo

Carolyn Crane

I have a thing for skulls for some reason. I have a rose quartz skull and a resin skull that used to be an air freshener that i bought from spencer's Gifts. lol But I loved it so it sits on my shelf. I love your skull and think you are right, they do look totally cool on bookshelves.

I studied your shelves closely. The Kushiel series is one of my favs, too. I love the skull and that would have been my choice but I am going to the Renaissance fair soon, so I will pick one up. I would love any and all ARCs you have. I don't know why but reading ARCs makes me feel good! There is probably a treatment for that. Oh well, thanks for the giveaway. You are a new to me author. I am always looking for new authors to read.

Is is crazy that I REALLY really want the spray to calm down kitties? What is this magical spray? (Yes, I have a cat. Yes, he is naughty).

I can't deny it – I laughed when you mentioned cassettes. Do they even still make those? It's just like my parents with their collection of VHS….

I love the skull. I think it adds to the aesthetic of the shelf. If I had one, I'd tell people it was the skull of someone who borrowed a book and moved across the country without giving it back. Mwhahahahah!

  • Mel October 16, 2011 at 10:34 am

Actually, I'd love to have your library/dining room! I've recently run out of space for all my book and have just started putting newly aquired books on the floor or my spare armchair…so a whole room filled with lovely shelves would be brilliant. But the skull is cool as well! 🙂

I think the 1911 Encylopaedia would be excellent research for anyone who wanted to write a book set then. Also, having any Encylopaedia makes the owners look extra smart. (It's a rule).

I'd love to read Mind Games! Please count me in. 🙂

It would be a sin to covet your Devil Ducky. (It would, right?) The encyclopedia is pretty cool…but I don't have enough shelf space for it and I get so tired of Hubby threatening me with bodily harm if I “bring one more book into the house.”

What I'd really like is something you probably shoved out of the way so as not to tempt us all. An early copy of Head Rush, perhaps? That is definitely covetable!

Thanks for sharing your bookshelves with us.
