The Good, the Bad and the Are-You-Kidding-Me?

We didn’t do one of these Books-we-can’t-wait-for posts in a while so we thought it is time to remedy that.

So many great books on our to-buy lists for 2011 and some of them are rather pretty, too. But make your own decision.

Let us know what you think about our pretties and we’d love to hear what your cover candies of 2011 are so far.

Caroline’s Selection:

Caroline: I fell in love with the new Moira Rogers covers. Bree and Donna posted the covers of Sabine and Kisri a few days ago and I couldn’t take my eyes of the cover of Kisri. I find it fascinating and so pretty. The model is gorgeous and she looks look she is belly dancing. Anyway I can’t wait to read the books in this series. So to make sure…everyone is seeing Curran in the background? 😉 That lion looks awfully like the one from the Kate Daniels covers =P.
Pride & Passion looks awesome. I love the gown she is wearing, it’s sooo pretty. And the colors make me think of chocolate and softness. I’m not the fan of the pose but my gaze is so attracted to the pretty gown that i’ll forgive the rest 😉
Now, the cover for The King’s Courtesan is just perfect on my opinion. It’s lush and erotic without looking like an ‘old romance cover’. I love the color and how the models are posing. They look sated and like they are resting. I just love it. I can’t wait for this book either.
Alright, so since we’re talking about books we can’t wait for, this next book is a good example of ‘bad cover’. Yeah not all the books I want to read have good covers, Just Like Heaven is not very good. I wouldn’t say it’s bad (considering the usual covers Julia Quinn gets, this one isn’t THAT bad), it’s just not striking. I saw it a few weeks ago and completely forgot about it until I saw it again on Goodreads. It’s a MEH cover. Hopefulle the book will be great *g*

Susi: I completely agree about the Kisri cover. It’s so pretty and the girl reminds me of someone….it’s kind of like the SinCity poster with Jessica Alba on it even though the girl doesn’t look like that at all. I like the colors and the composition. It’s just awesome. And OMG yes that’s Curran *waves at Curran* *whispers to everyone else* We have to tell Kate about this.
I like the upper part of the Pride & Passion cover. The way he grabs her waist is *fans herself* hot. But I think the dress is too big. I don’t want to know how hot it must be under there. LOL
I really like the cover of The King’s Courtesan. As you said it’s lush and daring. And I just love violet. *g* BUT I always think it’s weird when the author name is bigger than the book title. It’s like that is more important and no matter what the author writes we will just put the name on it in REAL BIG LETTERS and readers will buy it like crazy. Yes I’m weird. *awaits her punishment*
The Julia Quinn cover is meh. I don’t like that the dress looks dirty in comparison to the snow. And the red is just a tint off to be sexy or anything. The font color should be more unblue- it just looks off when you look at it. But yes, her other covers are even worse. LOL

Caroline: O_O Kate is going to be pissed to see he’s cheating on her. Ok YOU tell her! ROFL hon, only you to think about how uncomfortable the dress must be like. LOL It’s probably a oven in there, you’re right 😉

Susi: I’m not crazy…perhaps we should email her that way she can’t kill us….I hope.

Caroline: I think we should get a BLI follower to do it for us *g* Who wants to break her the news? 😉

Susi’s Selection:

Susi: Okay I dare anyone to tell me the cover for Never Enough isn’t made of awesomesauce? I adore it so much. Look at this guy. Really look at him and his dark eyes. ANd yes please let me give you a massage, I know you need it. We can kick the girl in the girl out of the cover (even though she looks good too) and get full body massage going…..LOVE IT! I so can’t wait to get my hands on this book. It will be awesome! *happy sigh*
A new Megan Hart novel *squuuuuuuuuuuuuueeeeee* I love her books. Okay that’s an understatement- I adore every single one of them and I’m sure Collide won’t disappoint me. Actually at first I didn’t like this cover at all. It’s so much more colorful than her previous titles and being the shallow book shelf Susi. I was scared it woudln’t fit. *hides in shame* But the more I look at it the more I like it. The pose of the girl is wonderful even though the guy is not my cup of coffee (tea is for the girls =P) But the title isn’t prominent enough. It’s an okay cover but probably won’t be my fave.
I have to say Karen Chance and the cover goddess seem to be BFFs. I love this new cover. Her pose is wonderful- it says confidence but it also shows her shy half. The dress is wonderful- I adore red and it looks perfect on her. It’s also great how the title reflects that color. Can’t find anything bad to say about this one.
I so can’t wait to read The Neon Graveyard. I like this series even though it’s getter sadder with each installment. The cover is weird. First I don’t think the heroine looks like Joanna but everyone who read those books knows that doesn’t have to mean anything. So now I’m thinking about what that tells us about the story. Here eyes are so weird red- I’m not sure what I should make out of that either. And the background: should that be the Neon Graveyard? Because if that’s so they got it wrong. Not flashy enough but that wouldn’t work with the chic in the focus so yeah I’m not sure if I like this cover. It’s confusing me too much. LOL
Caroline: Lol hon, I have to agree with you about Never Enough. The first time I saw it I was so shocked, then I started loving it. I think I didn’t see him that old (not that he is LOL) just that I imagine him younger, and I have to say I prefer this version. He’s so yummy. The cover is very pretty and I love how the girl is on his shoulder. The only thing that looks a big ‘fake’ is the abs part. NOM NOM NOM cover!
Contrary to you hon, I kinda like the cover for Collide when I first saw it. I like the play of light and how they seem to blend with it. I like that the title is a bit ‘transparent’ , it looks shiny like if we saw it in the sun. I do like it. Of course I can’t help to remember that I wasn’t that thrilled about the synopsis *wink* I’ll wait for you to guinea-pig it for me and tell me if it has a HEA *g* <==Coward Caroline
I like the cover of Hunt the Moon BUT, because there is a but. I can’t help but think of Christmas and Santa Clause each time I see it lol. She’s all in red and it looks like snow all around. And bam! My brain jumps to conclusion: Xmas! lol It’s stupid I know (don’t look at me like that I SAID it was stupid!) but otherwise it’s a pretty cover. I can’t wait for this book!!
It’s funny I think the cover of Neon Graveyard is my favorite in the series so far. It’s really not what I remember the heroine looking like, but again I gave up on book 3 so who knows? I love the the weird eyes and the heroine’s hair (not blond). It’s not flashy but on the other hand the title talks about Neon Graveyard so maybe it’s fitting,, this lack of light. *shrug* I won’t be reading this book, this series was way too depressing for me. 🙁

Susi: LMAO the CocaCola advertising campaign really stuck with you. LOL

What’s you favorite cover or set of covers? (yes it’s still a war between Susi and I)
Which one can’t you stand? Anything ticking you off?
Which 2011 books are you waiting for? Is there a 2011 cover you particularly enjoy?

My favorites are the Moira Rogers, Lauren Dane and Megan Hart covers. They have all had consistently great covers in the past few years. The cover gods have been good to them.

The Moira Rogers cover is my favorite out of all of them. It's just so striking and beautiful! (And I love Susie's comment "We have to tell Kate about this." LOL. I <3 Curran)

  • BooksforCompany February 28, 2011 at 3:10 pm

l haven't heard of the Brown Siblings series before! Added to my goodreads, thanks =)

  • pattepoilue February 28, 2011 at 3:15 pm

@GeishasMom73 You're damn right, they have been blessed with amazing covers. I only wish all the Moira Rogers books were available in print so I could look at all the pretty covers on my shelves =P

My favorite is the Moira Rogers cover.

  • Megan Hart February 28, 2011 at 3:38 pm

Caroline, baby, Collide TOTALLY has a HEA. In fact, the book might be one of the most squishy, lovey, romancey books I've ever written! 😉

LERRRRVE The Featherstone cover. That is totally passion embodied.

Hm. The Karen Chance cover kind of reminds me of Christmas. ^_^ Looks pretty, though.

  • pattepoilue February 28, 2011 at 3:48 pm

    @Estalla it's so pretty

@Megan *squeeee* This is the BEST news! I'm such a sucker for HEA. Actually I'd even go as far as say I'm afraid of NON-HEA.
YAY for squishy, lovey romancy *g* Now I'm looking forward to it!!

@Alisha See, i'm not crazy it does make one think of Xmas!! lol
Have you seen the other Featherstone cover in that series? It's very pretty too.

  • LSUReader February 28, 2011 at 3:50 pm

Ok–I must be having a Bad Cover Monday. None of these is really that great to me. Of course I see why one would drool over the Dane cover, but honestly, I don't like tattoos. Maybe I'm blasé about covers because they so often don't represent the novel's characters. To that end, the Quinn cover might be the most "truthful." Hard to lie about a foot.

  • pattepoilue February 28, 2011 at 3:56 pm

    @LSUReader Ohhh I'm a sucker for tattoos =P
Lol hard not to get a foot right, right? lol I don't like it much because it doesn't look like a dress any lady would wear outside a bedchamber and she's definitely outside and during day time. *shrug* I still can't wait for the book. *g*

  • Blodeuedd February 28, 2011 at 4:01 pm

I am sorry Susi but Caro wins 😉 Great selection

  • pattepoilue February 28, 2011 at 4:02 pm

@Blodeuedd *happy dancing* Damn that's good to hear! I've been loosing for a couple of posts. I thought I was loosing my book cover mojo lol.

  • SusiSunshine {The Geeky Bookworm} February 28, 2011 at 4:06 pm

    @Estella Good choice!

    @Megan *squee* I can't wait. *g*

@Alisha Yep pretty! And I don't get the Xmas vibe. LOL

@LSUReader I don't usually like the photoshopped tattoos either but that guy is just sooo good I can ignore it. LOL

@blodeuedd All you historical lovers. Pah!

  • Sarah February 28, 2011 at 6:33 pm

I love "Never Enough"! Just like all of them in this series, it's gorgeous!!

I love the covers for Moira Rogers, Karen Chance and Lauren Dane.
Lauren Dane is an author I keep meaning to read but haven't gotten round to yet.
If I'm careful I might have a spare tenner at the end of the week, which I'll use to get some Lauren Dane books.
When I saw the Pride & Passion cover my first thought was, wow I love that dress.

One of my favourite covers this year is Somber Island by T.Lynne Tolles, it was released at the end of december last year, but I only saw the cover this year.
I also really love the new UK covers for Jackie Kesslers Hell on Earth series.

  • marybelle March 1, 2011 at 2:41 am

I don't care how uncomfortable the gown was on Pride & Passion. That cover is divine.

  • pattepoilue March 1, 2011 at 3:35 am

@Sarah Yep all the covers in this series are pretty amazing. Lauren Dane has been very lucky cover-wise. =)

@Natalie23 I looked up the cover of Somber Island and it's pretty. I'm a bit tired of the EMO covers like 'Fallen' and the kind. But Somber Island is nice =) Like the hair that looks like blood spilling on the ground.
Right! How I'd LOVE to try on the gown from the Pride & Passion cover. Must feel like a princess in there *g*

@Marybelle I love it too. It's gorgeous. *sigh* I chose that cover mostly because of he gown lol

  • Kaetrin March 2, 2011 at 12:29 am

I quite like the Judith James and Charlotte Featherstone covers and I don't mind the Lauren Dane (although the cover for her new paranormal is better IMO), but so far, nothing beats Jaci Burton's The Perfect Play for a 2011 cover – Pamela Clare's new one comes a close second (I wonder if it's because they both feature Jed Hill???) *grin*

  • pattepoilue March 2, 2011 at 4:00 am

@Kaetrin Yeah the cover of the Perfect Play is fantastic. I think I've been looking at it for too long (nearly a year) so now in my head it's a 2010 cover lol even if it's really not. =P
    Such a pretty cover *purr*
I have to track down the Pamela Clare cover, your teasing worked now I wanna see it! lol

  • Kaetrin March 2, 2011 at 4:04 am
  • pattepoilue March 2, 2011 at 4:06 am

@Kaetrin Ohhh my!!! NOM NOM NOM Wow
ahem…huh thank you for the link lol NOw i have to stop staring

  • SusiSunshine {The Geeky Bookworm} March 2, 2011 at 4:26 pm

@Sarah Yes it is! Probably my favorite. *g*

@natalie23 You should try her. I love this series so much. And Somber Island looks a bit like those Fallen covers. Have to agree with Caro there.

@Kaetrin And yes The Perfect Play is made of yum. I love to pat my copy every chance I get. 😉 And oooohhhh I like that cover. NOM indeed.

  • Stella (Ex Libris) March 10, 2011 at 4:58 am

    Beautiful covers!

I agree Caro, the model on Kisri LOOKS like she is bellydancing, and she is pretty! I rella ylove the colour and complexity of the cover, however I don't like the font. I find it too simplistic and IMO does not suit the whole feel of the cover. (and pst until you said it I so did not see Curran, but after I zoomed in, yep, there he was :-D)

I again agree, the cover of P&P is gorgeous! Love that fiery sunset orange and the beautiful city detail in the backgroudn and what a lush beautiful gown she has! Never heard of this book, but now I want to read it! (Love the passion showing in the way he grabs her waist, but unfortunately the male model doesn't do it for me, but well, the woman looks pretty with that innocent yet seductive combo ;-p)

Love the colours and pose of the models in the King Courtesan but it's not a cover I could just stare at for minutes. (and agree with Susi, it bothers me and spoils the cover how big the author's name is..)

And I agree, the Julia Quinn is nice but not stunning.

Susi dear agree, Never enough is one HOT cover (a cover one could stare and stare at.. ;-p), however sorry to say Collide doesn't do it for me. I actually don't like it.

With the Karen Chance cover the more I stare at it the more I love it! Love the lamppost, love the snow, the contrast of that fiery red dress with the darkness and light of the snow, eyegrabbing wonderful cover! Love it!! (and Caro, I seriously luuurrve X-mas, so now it holds even more appeal to me lol! ;-D)

Ugh, I would seriously miss out on The Neon Graveyard solely because of this horrible cover. The cover model looks like a zombie with crazy eyes, and don't like the colour and the font of the text. I zoomed in and it is even worse ugh.. quick I have to stare at P&P to get this out of my eyememory…

Sorry for the length, this time I had so much to say thanks to the beautiful covers you dug out, so thanks and sorry! 😉

  • pattepoilue March 10, 2011 at 10:43 am

@Stella you know it's weird coz Susi said the same thing about the Kristi font not going well with the cover. I can't see it. It doesn't shock me . Weird!
LOL I didn't see Curran either at first, and on the post the covers are quite small. But when you see it then it's like the elephant in the room, 'how could I miss that!?' =P

Pride and Passion is the 2nd book in the series actually, the first one Seduction and Scandal is coming out in a few months. I'm excited about those. The guys on both covers don't do it for me either. http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1293753427l/9920454.jpg

LOL now when you guys point it out it's true that the author's name is pretty big O_O lol but i still can't waiiiiiiiiiiiit to read it *g*
