I’m trying to figure out when I started listening to music as I wrote, because you know, I didn’t always.

Even as short as eighteen months, two years ago, I’d have the TV on and just block it out. Then I had to start focusing more and I realized something—I didn’t block out the TV as much as I’d liked to think and I was wasting precious writing time (come to think of it, I probably waste a lot of time now on twitter…hmmm). Anyway. I had to focus more because I’d recently signed a contract with a new publisher and my workload had pretty much doubled. So TV off.

But the house was too quiet.
I’ve got kids. The house is never quiet. When they are at school, I’ve always had the TV going and now without the TV, the house was so quiet…the answer?
Well, I had an iPod, of course. And a handy docking station. Now the iPod has 583 songs. I have, well, we’ll call it eclectic tastes.
I’ve got 80s rock, Christian rock, classic rock, country, alternative, classical, soundtracks…eclectic.
When I’m writing, I don’t necessarily need a specific kind of music, a specific album, although something I’ve noticed, some books do seem to call for certain songs. When I was writing Hunter’s Fall, my next Hunters book, a song I listened to a lot? I Promise You by Judith Owen-kind of just suited the book. And when I say a lot??? I mean, sometimes…five, six, ten times a day. O_O

Right now, the song that’s on my mind a lot is Everywhere You Go by Lissy. It’s moving close to the five, six, seven times a day. And I’m only a third of the way through the current trilogy that’s my main project for the rest of the year.

Now here’s a really good question-why do I feel the need to listen to a song five, six seven times a day (sometimes more)? The answer? I’ve gotta admit, I’m kind of clueless about that one.
Any of you like specific music for certain things? Writing? Workouts…or torture, as I like to call it…

My latest book, BROKEN, (and yep, I was listening to music when I wrote that one…my normal weird random mix) a romantic suspense released last week…if you’d like to read about it, there’s an excerpt up at my blog, along with some reviews.

I have always worked with some kind of noise in the background. Mostly music. Sometimes tv. When everything is quite it is easier to focus, but less fun and quite boring. I guess the music, tv, whatnot makes you feel like you are not alone. 🙂 At least it does for me.

I think blogger is mad at me…I tried to comment yesterday and it wouldn't let me. O_O

Blodeuedd, when I get in the mood to where I need to hear the same song over and over? I can't get past the over and over… LMAO.

I do better with noise for writing, but I don't need it.

One thing I DO need music for? Exercise. It's the only way I can tolerate it. 🙁
