Interview: Author, Megan Hart and a Giveaway!

Filed in Giveaways , Interview , Megan Hart Posted on April 26, 2010 @ 6:00 am 16 comments

We are happy to have Megan Hart, author of numerous erotica, paranormal romances and so much more, here today. Passion Model, one of her first eroticas, will be re-released tomorrow and Megan is here today to answer all our questions about herself and her books. Please give her a warm welcome.

The Geeky Lover: Can you please tell us a bit about yourself?

Megan Hart: My name is Megan Hart. I write books. I’ve been writing books and stories for a very long time and always knew I wanted to be a writer. If not a writer, an actress. I also thought about being a funeral director, but that idea didn’t last long. I went to school for Journalism but I hated being a reporter…I like making stuff up. That’s why I love writing novels!

The Geeky Lover: What’s your favorite book at the moment?

Megan Hart: Hmmm. That’s a tough question. Raptor by Gary Jennings is a pretty awesome book.

The Geeky Lover: What do you think is the difference between a reader and a real Book Lover?

Megan Hart: I’m not sure I think there is a difference, unless a reader reads and a book lover collects rare editions and stuff like that…If you love to read, you’re a reader. AND a book lover.

The Geeky Lover: What I always wondered while reading you books: Do you believe in serendipity?

Megan Hart: Absolutely. It happens to me all the time. I think it happens to everyone all the time, but most of the time, you don’t notice it.

The Geeky Lover: Your books always seem to have a deeper meaning and make the reader think, not only about the book itself but also about life in general. They always feel thoughtful and thought-provoking. I think this is rather the exception in the erotica genre. Why do you choose these, in lack of a better word, dilemma settings in your books?

Megan Hart: I write books I’d like to read. That’s the simple answer. I don’t think life is uncomplicated and I don’t think it’s interesting to read about people who aren’t flawed, who don’t have real problems, who don’t in some way resonate with me. I don’t always like my characters. They’re not always meant to be “liked.” They’re meant to be real and have something about them that readers can connect with — it doesn’t have to be something a reader has done herself, but something she can relate to. Let’s face it, we might either have the slutty friend or we might BE the slutty friend. You just never know. People come in all flavors, and I write about the ones I find compelling.

The Geeky Lover: Tell us a bit about your new release Passion Model?

Megan Hart: Passion Model will be released from Samhain Publishing on April 27th, 2010, and I’m really excited because even though it’s one of my oldest works, it’s one of my favorites. It’s futuristic erotic romance with an adventure twist.

The Geeky Lover: I read on your website that Passion Model was originally a short story you wrote a few years back and it was the first erotica you ever wrote. How do you feel about about the chance to release it again?

Megan Hart: I’m really happy that Samhain liked it enough to release again, because it’s one of my favorite stories. Even though it’s older, I still really like it. I think there are a lot of fun and good elements in it. I can read it again without cringing. That says a lot.

The Geeky Lover: When I first put my eyes on Passion Model I was relatively surprised to see that it’s a science fiction novel. Don’t get me wrong, I really love scifi but I would have expected a contemporary. Did you lose your interest for the science fiction genre or did you rather discover your love of the contemporary?

Megan Hart: I always loved writing science fiction and fantasy. Much of my small press work is sf and f. My work for Spice ended up in the contemporary genre because that’s what they were buying and that’s what I wrote for them (though I’ve managed to sneak in a couple paranormals there, too.) I love sf and f the best, but contemporary works for me, too.

The Geeky Lover: Your heroine Gemma is a Recreational Intercourse Operative. This job alone sounds intriguing. Tell us a bit about her and her job?

Megan Hart: Gemma’s job is to test the freelance Pleasurebots in the Lovehuts to make sure they’re not malfunctioning. A malfunctioning Pleasurebot can kill a man or woman with their…um…enthusiasm. She’s a cop, basically, with some special talents.

The Geeky Lover: Will it be a stand alone or is it part of a series?

Megan Hart: Passion Model does have a sequel as well as a few short stories set in the same world, and I’m hoping they’ll see re-release as well. I’d love to write more stories in that world, too. Maybe now’s my chance.

The Geeky Lover: I know you like to hear music while writing a book: When you think about Passion Model, which song do you hear in your mind?

Megan Hart: I wrote Passion Model so long ago that sadly, my play list has been lost to the sands of time. I guess I hear the soundtrack to the Matrix.

The Geeky Lover: Describe a typical day of writing? Are you a planner or pantser?

Megan Hart: A typical day of writing for me would be, get Superman and the spawn off to work and school. Drink a Coke Zero. Maybe brew some coffee. Check emails and Twitter. Open my document. Write. Sometimes I have to turn off my internet in order to get the page count in. I’m a plantser. I plan a head a little bit but not the whole thing. Plantsing!

The Geeky Lover: Do you have a favorite science fiction movie or series and why that one?

Megan Hart: So many. So many! The Matrix, Star Trek, Star Wars, Blade Runner…umm…just too many to pick just one.

The Geeky Lover: Do you plan to write in a different genre like paranormal romance/Urban Fantasy?

Megan Hart: I have written a number of paranormal stories. My upcoming release from Carina Press is somewhat Urban Fantasy in tone, though perhaps atypical of the genre.

The Geeky Lover: What is up next in your schedule?

Megan Hart: Writing. Writing. Releasing books. Writing some more. Oh, then it’s summer and I intend to spend a large portion of it at the beach doing nothing but sitting in the sand and reading all the books I don’t have time to read now.

The Geeky Lover: Thanks so much for taking the time to answer our questions!

Megan Hart: Thanks very much for having me!
