All YA Love: Why I love the Vampire Academy Series

Now I will be honest with you, I never really pictured myself as a YA reader, sure, I read Twilight a couple of years ago and it was ok with its whole high school love thing, but it was a little too teenagery for my tastes.

I was put off not only by YA but by reading after that, not Twilight but The Host (which isn’t YA, I know), I hadn’t picked up a book in 10 months and I was going through a pretty rough patch life wise until one relatively normal day, I was on a holiday in north Queensland for a few weeks and I walked into their smaller of only two newsagencies. This newsagency was a reseller for Angus and Robertson (Australia’s version of Barnes and Noble) and there on the shelf was a set of three books staring at me as I walked in. Those books were: Vampire Academy, Frostbite and Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead. I couldn’t stop looking at them; I walked up to the shelf I kid you not seven times before I finally bought the box set.

After not reading in what was for me an extremely long time I was sketchy about spending money on three books at once, and yet I couldn’t not own them, the covers literally called to me and I was excited to read again.
I read all three books back to back in two and a half days and after I had finished them I was hungering for more, Blood Promise was read in a matter of hours and then I trawled the web for the release date of the next book. My heart was not only jumping, but leaping inside of my chest, when I found out the release date was seven months away. I sat for hours reading through forums about theories on what people thought would happen to Dimitri and Rose.

After reading Vampire Academy and being reintroduced to the feeling of getting absolutely sucked into a different world, I not only wanted but needed more, my next conquest was the House of Night series and then I moved into the world of Sookie Stackhouse and Evernight. I was reading a book a day again and absolutely loving it.
So not only is Vampire Academy my favourite YA series because it has one of the strongest female characters I have ever read about, one of the hottest instructors known to mankind and one of the funniest bad boys who is a total softy at heart and an absolutely heart wrenchingly awesome plot, Vampire Academy is my favourite YA series because it brought me back into the world of reading.
Vampire Academy is the reason for me reading so much now, the reason for me blogging now and also the reason for me writing this post.

Same here! I am not really a fan of YA but I LOVED The Vampire Academy 🙂 I think it was written really well and the story is compelling. Can't believe the last one comes out in December.

honestly, I've never read this series and usually I don't like YA that much, but I couldn't miss the House of the Night series and I really liked it… so here I am, thinking that I could love this series too. thanks for making that possible!

brandileigh – they better do it justice! i am almost scared to watch it, especially if they try to twilinate it.

Ina – I promise this series is WAY better!

rachel – i almost hope they get no names who can act to do it, just so we can get a really good story, i loved the girl they use on the trailers.

Jenn – you will love it!

I absolutely love Vampire Academy! One of the best YA vampire series out there, in my opinion. Can't wait to read Last Sacrifice!
