Welcome to this week’s news post and gosh cannot believe it is September! This year has FLOWN past – in this week’s edition we haz news on the upcoming Amazon Tablets, and if you are a fan of Stephen King, you will be pretty please with an upcoming adaptation of a book.

First up! Waterstone is ending its 3 for 2 deals by the end of this month, this has been a major selling approach for the past ten years but it seems that the new owner of the flailing brand wants to rehaul its marketing approach. Instead, staggered prices of £3, £5 and £7 of selected books will take its place.

An interesting development has emerged for Amazon’s takeover for The Book Depository, The quango that is in charge of mergers, The OFT (Office of Fair Trading) was expected to rule on Amazon’s deal with The Book Depository this Friday. However it is delaying its decision to greenlight this merger, this may be due to several bodies such as the Booksellers and Publishings Association and The Booksellers group voicing their concerns.

Amazon has announced that a new feature for the Kindle where you can highlight and tweet a passage to participating authors to answer any questions regarding that excerpt or in general about the book. I think this is pretty cool idea.
More on Amazon – the long awaited tablets that has been hinted for the past year or so seems to have a schedule for release. According to several tech websites – Amazon will be unleashing a 7 inch tablet for this October and will be “100s of dollars” cheaper than its tablet counterparts such as the ipad. The 10 inch model will be out in the 1st quarter of 2012. For more details on the rumoured tech details the tablets will have click here.

Fans of Stephen King can rejoice if they loved Under the Dome. It has been greenlighted for the TV treatment by Showtime and it is slated to air in the next year or so. This may beat out the long awaited and delayed adaptation of The Dark Tower by Universal and NBC which seems to be stalling right now in development hell.

And for those who didn’t get the chance to see the teaser trailer that aired during MTV Video Music Awards – here is the mini teaser for The Hunger Games

Finally – this morning Ann Aguirre has announced a new deal that will feature five more books in the offering. First up, a spinoff series based on the Grimspace world will be slated in the fall of 2013 and will feature a new heroine and will have Jael as the hero.
There is also a two book deal for a new fantasy steampunk series called Bronze Gods which Ann has co-written with her husband Andres and will go under the pseudonym of A.A Aguirre. For more info check out Ann’s site on the press release!

I so CANNOT wait!

Now next up is upcoming books!

ZOMG this series is sooo addictive and crackilious – the 4th book- Born of Ashes has a cover but no blurb yet but I highly recommend this series by Caris Roan about vampire angels which has a similar approach to JR Ward.

This book really caught my eye whilst browsing Goodreads and definitely perked my radar.

London, 1881
Once the flames are ignited . . .
Miranda Ellis is a woman tormented. Plagued since birth by a strange and powerful gift, she has spent her entire life struggling to control her exceptional abilities. Yet one innocent but irreversible mistake has left her family’s fortune decimated and forced her to wed London’s most nefarious nobleman.
They will burn for eternity . . .
Lord Benjamin Archer is no ordinary man. Doomed to hide his disfigured face behind masks, Archer knows it’s selfish to take Miranda as his bride. Yet he can’t help being drawn to the flame-haired beauty whose touch sparks a passion he hasn’t felt in a lifetime. When Archer is accused of a series of gruesome murders, he gives in to the beastly nature he has fought so hard to hide from the world. But the curse that haunts him cannot be denied. Now, to save his soul, Miranda will enter a world of dark magic and darker intrigue. For only she can see the man hiding behind the mask.

We also have the 8th book of the Warrior’s of Poseidon series by Alyssa Day – again no blurb but love the tone of colours here.

And finally we have Scarlett a retelling of Robin Hood with a twist. It has a cross-dressing heroine and I am such a sucker for those! It is slated for release early 2012.

Many readers know the tale of Robin Hood, but they will be swept away by this new version full of action, secrets, and romance. Posing as one of Robin Hood’s thieves to avoid the wrath of the evil Thief Taker Lord Gisbourne, Scarlet has kept her identity secret from all of Nottinghamshire. Only the Hood and his band know the truth: the agile thief posing as a whip of a boy is actually a fearless young woman with a secret past. Helping the people of Nottingham outwit the corrupt Sheriff of Nottingham could cost Scarlet her life as Gisbourne closes in. It’s only her fierce loyalty to Robin—whose quick smiles and sharp temper have the rare power to unsettle her—that keeps Scarlet going and makes this fight worth dying for.

So what do you think of the upcoming tablets by Amazon? Do you think it will be a huge contender against the ipad? And what do you think of the TV adapation of Under the Dome and the teaser trailer for The Hunger Games?

@Sullivan McPig – I squeeing along with you – the fact we are getting more Grimspace verse books makes me all tizzy 😀
And the new series sounds fantastic!

@Diane – The series is similar to other PNR warrior type series like the BDB/Kenyon Dark Hunter series. It is not unique in its premise but I do find it addictive.

SCARLET sounds really interesting and the cover is really striking.

Interesting about the Book Depository. As long as they keep up the free postage, I don't care who owns them but I can see it might be an issue for the local retailers.

The Amazon tablets look like they'll be pretty. We've just picked up an iPad but if they aren't too expensive maybe I will pick one of these up too! 🙂
