Top Five All Time Favorite Reads by Dakota Cassidy + Giveaway

Filed in 1000 follower celebration , Dakota Cassidy , Giveaways , The Geeky Lover Posted on October 13, 2011 @ 6:00 am 69 comments

We are very happy to welcome the fabulous Dakota Cassidy here at our Book Lovers United Celebration today. She’s the author of a tons of hilarious books that will leave you giggling and snorting no matter where you read them. Believe me, I learned that the hard way.

Her latest book is Burning Down the Spouse, book 2 in her Ex Trophy Wife series. You shouldn’t miss that one.

Today she will share her favorite reads of all time with us. Please give Dakota a warm welcome.

1. The Stand by Stephen King

Because really, who doesn’t want to invest three hundred sixty-five, 8 hour long days to read a book the size of War and Peace? In my mind, Stephen King is one of the best fictional writers ever. Probably one of the best books I’ve ever read and I’d do it again if I could set aside another year of my life =)
2. Night Games by Nina Bangs

A book that so totally cracked me up with it’s wild concept that when I began to write, I kept thinking (because who did I think I was?), Nina Bangs did it… The premise is set in the future and the hero is the MVP of Monday Night Sex. Oh, yes, my friends—it’s LOL outlandishly funny!
3. Knight In Shining Armor by Jude Deveraux

Big, girly sigh. Nuff said, right? It made me smile, it made me giggle, it made me cry.

4. Dream a Little Dream by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

The heroine was tough as nails and most of all, snarky. I can’t figure why I was so drawn to it… I love SEP and everything she’s written.
5. Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz

I fell in love with this series and the genius that is Dean. It’s tender, sweet, sad, hopeful and it made me want to spork my eyeballs out because one can only hope to be that brilliant as a writer =)

Soon, Frankie lands a job as a prep chef at a Greek diner in New Jersey, home to the world’s best meatloaf and an owner who resembles an exquisitely chiseled Greek statue. While I don't know all the authors Dakota mentions, I totally agree on two – The Stand by Kind is epic and Odd Thomas by Koontz, well, one of my all time favorites!! I bet the rest of the selection is brilliant too 🙂 !

I agree with your choices. The Stand is my favorite book. It actually influenced me a little in my life. This is a true story- I was part of the federal goverment's planning of a major pandemic a few years ago. There was a general who said, at a meeting, that he had a cover story, they would call it anthrax. You just can't make this stuff up. It was a very strange moment for me.
Have you ever had a very unusual moment like that in your life?

I agree, Stephen King is one of the best writers out there. He actually gets his fans to read several 800+ paged tomes, which I find quite an accomplishment in this time.

Hello I am Tammy from tammyjmassey@gmail.com I am an avid reader, I would not presume to think that I could ever write. Dakota's books are all awesome. I love the Accidental Series. Her picks of other authors are good, especially the Knight in Shining Armor. I have read that now 3 times and my heart melts EVERY time. My birthday is coming up on the 16th and I celebrate ALL month long. I could use some new books to read. Hint hint. I buy about $80.00 worth of books every week and love to read them all. Keep on going Dakota, my queen. Thank you for your words. Tammy

I love Nina Bangs, but can't read King because he gives me nightmares! I also like SEP and Jude Devereraux.

I think one of my favorite writers would have to be Robert Heinlein with his book Stranger in a Strange Land.

I also read fantasy and like Mercedes Lackey, Patricia Briggs, Kresley Cole,MaryJanice Davidson, Anne McCafrey, Katie MacAlister and the list goes on and on and on… 😉

I've read all but The Stand. Jude Deveraux got me reading romance. I LOVE Nina Bangs! I can see how you would like her stuff she is snarky funny like you. I think she may have used you as a template for Sparkle. 😉 Odd Thomas was out there not really my cup of tea. SEP is a wonderful writer.

  • May October 13, 2011 at 6:54 pm

Love SEP! Her last few books are especially amazing! Usually not a fan of contempary romance but she is just too good!

  • Christine Milone October 13, 2011 at 7:10 pm

I love Dakota's books, and her selections are as varied as what I like to read. Her books always make me laugh, sometimes I laugh so hard my husband looks at me like I'm nuts. The only question I can think of right now is, where the inspiration comes from for some of the more funnier characters, they are so real and life like, they have to be based on someone.. 🙂 Keep up the good work and I look forward to the next new release..

  • Dakota Cassidy October 13, 2011 at 7:27 pm

Inspy mostly comes from a compilation of people I jam into one poor soul. LOL! I take bits and pieces of people I've met, watched on TV etc and I throw them into one pot, bring to a boil, and then I let 'em simmer 🙂

  • QueenTinLizzy October 13, 2011 at 7:29 pm

Fairly new (under a year) to your books, but am trying to get my hands on all of them. I like yur choices, specially Jude Devereaux -Mine was the Black Lyon, all or any of SEP-she's great. Keep 'em coming!

  • Jen B. October 13, 2011 at 7:49 pm

Odd Thomas is on my bookshelf, I just need to read it. I never read The Stand. I love Stephen King but that book is just too much. I did love the miniseries. I have Susan Elizabeth Phillips on my wish list but I will have to add this one. Have you ever read anything by Jacqueline Carey? Her Kushiel series (first 3 books are the best) blew me away! Thanks for the giveaway. I love swag.
