Great news for Tolkien fans! The Hobbit movies have been greenlit by New Line Cinema and Warner Brothers and it will be filmed in New Zealand, despite previous issues with unions who had a disagreement about working conditions in the country. The movies have been dogged with problems, such as disagreements about rights and schedule clashes that led to the original director, Guillermo Del Toro who had to drop out, but led to Peter Jackson who take the helm. The two movies will be filmed back to back and will star, Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins and Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield.

Ang Lee is attached to the Book prize-winning book, Life of Pi by Yann Martel. It will be shot in 3D and will star an unknown in the lead role, Suraj Sharma. Shooting will commence soon.
Amazon has announced that it will be releasing a Kindle App for the new Windows 7 phone. It will be able to sync to all kindle app/devices. It will also be the first e-reading app for the device.
Scholastic has launched a new social network platform called Youarewhatyouread.com. It will allow users to post what books the five books that most affect and shape readers. It will be open to other books by different publishers and already consists a few celebrities who have posted their profiles and books of their choice.
Barnes and Noble has unveiled a new Nook but it’s not another ereader but a tablet à la Ipad. It will run on the Android platform and will have an IPS screen and will have 8 hours of battery life if the Wifi is switched off. It will also be able to connect to sites like Facebook and Twitter where you can share and underline book passages and can also listen to streaming radio sites like Pandora. The price is set at $249 should be available later in the year!
More upcoming book covers unveiled!!!
Sci Fi Guy has posted the cover for an upcoming anthology about Home Improvements with a supernatural tone! The anthology will be out next August and will feature authors such as Charlaine Harris and Patricia Briggs.

Lisa Shearin has posted the cover flats for the next Raine Benares book, Con and Conjure! I think this is my favourite cover yet!
Ann Aguirre has also posted the cover for the 3rd Corine Soloman US edition for Shady Lady

And finally here is a unique way to classify books in a bookstore. I think it’s more interesting than the Decimal point system 😀
Question for this week is- Have you ever come across a book that was classified in the wrong section/shelf or genre?

at my bookstore they have the following 4 classifications for English books: Fantasy, Horror/Crime, Historical Fiction and General. It's hell! I have to browse both Fantasy and Horror/Crime as some series are split up and one half is shelved under Fantasy and the other half unde horror/crime.

I found Santa Olivia (by Jacqueline Carey) up in the Queer Studies section….along with several other fiction books featuring queer leads.

Good recap. Thanks for all the news. About bookstores–sure, I find things in odd places. One of the things I like about shopping at Borders is the buyer-accessible computer system. I can check to see where something is before I look for it.
