Book Lovers for the Prevention of Supporting Character Neglect: The Mercy-verse

Welcome back to the Book Lovers for the Prevention of Supporting Character Neglect! Where Book Lovers from across the world stand in solidarity for the supporting cast. This week we are tossing life-rafts out into Patricia Briggs’ Mercyverse. Patricia has already taken great strides to save one of the original supporting cast, with the Alpha & Omega spin off series. Tragically the spin-off (vastly superior to the Mercy books in case anyone was wondering) has only served to highlight just how fascinating all the people not-Mercy (or Adam. or Sam) truly are. This whole series …

Around the Bookish World: News Week-in-Review

This week has been pretty interesting with some surprising and not so surprising news!

Barnes and Noble has announced their recent profits from the last 3rd quarter, although there was losses compared to the previous year, growth of their ebooks sales have risen that they have claimed that they are now selling more in that format than in print. In fact they have also claimed that they are selling twice as many ebooks in any print format in their site. So according to their press release this means they have cornered 25 percent of online sales of ebooks? Because like Amazon who have claimed they have 70/80 percent of market shares of the market, although both have not offered hard data/figures to corroborate this claim. But it does seem that Barnes and Noble will be hopefully …

After last week’s epic news post and the authors gone HULK, things have been quite subdued this week, with some depressing and sad news of bankruptancy and deaths.

The biggest announcement has to be Borders filing for Chapter 11 insolvency and will be entering administration. Sadly 200 of their 600 megastores will be closing and around 6000 employees will face redundancies. This will also affect publishers which Borderes owes millions of dollars of debt and in turn as this article highlights will affect authors, because the majority of books being sold are via stores like Borders.

Another struggling mega store chain owner REDgroup is also facing bankruptancy, but this time its in Australia. Ironically enough they also own the Australian arm of Borders as well as, Angus and Robertson and Whitcoulls in New Zealand. This shows that traditional brick …

USA Today reports that its bestselling list will begin to feature ebooks this week and notes that since the holidays which many people have been gifted with an ereader for Christmas. That the top six books on the list, the ebook versions outsold their print counterparts while in the top 50, nineteen books sold more ebooks than print. Whether this trend will grow or remain static remains to be seen but it does lead credence that Ebooks are becoming the new Mass Market as the print sales for that format has fallen in recent months.

A few weeks ago an author claimed and wrote a book that there was a way to manipulate Amazon Kindle charts, however this would involve buying your own book everyday as well as posting reviews and voting for them. I personally didn’t think it …

Great news for Tolkien fans! The Hobbit movies have been greenlit by New Line Cinema and Warner Brothers and it will be filmed in New Zealand, despite previous issues with unions who had a disagreement about working conditions in the country. The movies have been dogged with problems, such as disagreements about rights and schedule clashes that led to the original director, Guillermo Del Toro who had to drop out, but led to Peter Jackson who take the helm. The two movies will be filmed back to back and will star, Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins and Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield.

Ang Lee is attached to the Book prize-winning book, Life of Pi by Yann Martel. It will be shot in 3D and will star an unknown in the lead role, Suraj Sharma. Shooting …
