Guest Post by Annie Seaton + Giveaway

Today we are very pleased to welcome Annie Seaton to Book Lovers Inc. Annie’s first two books Holiday Affair and Winter of the Passion Flower both released on March 15th! Annie is here today to talk about the inspiration for her beautiful locales in her stories.

Stella: Your descriptions of the exotic setting were very evocative and vivid, have you been to the Whitsunday Islands on a sailing trip? (If not, why did you choose this exact location? any special reason? What inspired it?) Or did any other of your own experience, travels inspire details of the novel?

Annie Seaton: I am so pleased that my description of the exotic setting in the Whitsunday Islands evoked a response and my words translated into vivid pictures for the reader

Every July for the past ten years or so, my husband and I …

Sunday Cravings

The last Sunday of March is here!!! How time passes is beyond me, mind you. Especially when you have a great time 🙂 And being here with you surely qualifies as spending great time for me.

So, this might be the last week of March, but the publishers are yet again taunting us with all those great releases that we’re waiting to hit the shelves, especially on March 27th. Among the highlights of the week are Sacrificial Magic by Stacia Kane, Lover Reborn by J.R. Ward, The Kingdom by Amanda Stevens and so many, many others I can’t possibly list them all.

So, let’s start, with our Sunday Cravings 🙂

Susi and Jackie: Sacrificial Magic by Stacia Kane

When Chess Putnam is ordered by an infamous crime boss—who also happens to be her drug dealer—to use her powers as a witch to solve a grisly murder involving dark magic, she …

Around the Bookish World: News-In-Review

Welcome to this week’s news edition! Not much has gone on this week but we have some great trailers from Game of Thrones and the upcoming adaptation of The Host which was written by Stephanie Meyers. There was also smoky going ons at St Martins Press, Book Blogger Con controversy and the usual upcoming covers to watch out for!

The big and very unlikely story coming out this week, is the news of a shipment of weed which was sent to the NY offices of St Martins, however it was incepted by the authorities after reports of a strange smell coming from the two packages. The packages  which had a street value of 70 thousand dollars, were addressed to a Karen Wright but no one of that name exists or is employed by St Martins.  When the news broke on Monday about this, I have to say that my twitter …

Cynical billionaire Daniel Martinetti works hard; plays harder and has one ironclad rule. Never trust a woman. Bad news for historian Charlotte Doherty who shows up at exactly the wrong time. Like every other woman in Daniel’s life, Charlotte wants something from him–the deed to her family farm. Daniel agrees, but only if he gets something in return: Charlotte’s company for the weekend!

The property is Charlotte’s only link to the mother she never knew. Desperate to keep her history alive, she’ll accept Daniel’s indecent proposal, but not without a few terms of her own. Namely, a propriety clause. No flirting. No kissing. …

Bookish Rants and Raves: MG & YA Book-to-Film Adaptation

So, a person would have to be living under a rock these days not to have heard about the impending release of the film version of smash hit The Hunger Games. Though the film is not out until March 23 in most markets worldwide, there’s already a slew of raving reviews and talk of the movie being projected to top $140 million in its U.S. opening weekend. Wow.

The Hunger Games films are just the latest in what seems to be a rampant streak of middle grade (MG) and young adult (YA) film adaptations. Sure, it’s not a completely new development, but it sure does feel like the percentage of young-adult targeted movies based on blockbuster books is at an all-time high. Framed differently, it also seems like almost every well-loved YA series gets optioned for film adaptation…sometimes immediately following its release. Not all are successful (critically or monetarily), but …

Want to get your man talking? Give him booty!

Desperate times call for desperate measures. And Shay LaCosta is pretty desperate. She’s wrecked her blissful marriage of five years by demanding she and her husband Dylan have a baby. What the hell was she thinking? She knows she was wrong and she’s ready to set things right, if only Dylan will let her. Bet he can’t shun her Booty Camp offer: delicious, white-hot sex in exchange for what’s going on inside his brain.

Dylan may be macho and stubborn, but he really does miss his wife. A little of Shay’s pushing gets him past their estrangement and into her web of seduction. She seems …

Elements in Lit 201: Victorian Era, Gothic, and Steampunk

We’ve covered a little bit of all three items mentioned in the title in previous Genre and Elements posts, but as I’m reading Wicked as They Come by Delilah S. Dawson, the main character makes a statement about “[being] transformed into a curvy Victorian bombshell. Or a Gothic bombshell…” She continues on to describe the Gothic as “decidedly dark and sexy…” It got me thinking about the subtle differences between these styles of dress. Moreover, the book has a definite Steampunk overtones, with each ‘Bludman’ or ‘Pinkie’ having a clockwork animal in their charge. What better way to experience the differences (or similarities) than with pictures!

Click on the image if you would like to check out the store website.

So, let’s start the comparison: The Victorian Era coincides with “Queen Victoria’s reign from 20 June 1837 until her death on 22 January 1901” (source: Wiki) …
