Welcome back to The Good, the Bad and the Are-You-Kidding-Me, our little cover haven. Here we let our shallow selves to the surface and we’re not scared of criticizing books we love.

This week we’ll be looking at upcoming releases. Some we are desperately awaiting- others just caught our eyes. So get yourself a drink and join the cover talk.

Caro: *squeeeeee* I am loving the cover of Trapped! Seriously the previous cover was SO fugly I was despairing we would ever get pretty covers again for this series. I am a huge fan of the books and I cannot wait for Trapped. It’s fantastic that Atticus is sharing the spotlight with Granuaile. *squeee* I just wished he wasn’t wearing a deep V-neck shirt *rolleyes*

I love the new Gail Carriger cover! It’s just awesome. It’s stylish and badass all in 1 cover. I wonder who she’s planning to kill with her scissors 😉 Probably not the cover designer who did a fantastic work here. LOVE it. Even the black&white versus colored wallpaper thing is perfect. <3
I’ve recently discovered the awesomeness that is Kresley Cole’s series. I’m only on book 3 but now I’m super excited to read them all. I’m not loving Shadow’s Claim. The shadows on his face make him look like he has a beard/goatee. Too much seems to be happening on this cover. It looks messy. Just meh.

Susi: I totally agree. The Trapped cover rocks my socks off. I love that we see Granuaile. And well I will admit something embarrassing now: I don’t even mind teh silly shirt. Atticus looks awesome- his hair is just great. And I like that he doesn’t look sooooo young anymore. That really put me off the first 3 books. Can’t wait! *jumps up and down*
I’m pleasantly surprised by the Carriger cover. The last ones were just fugly so this is a nice change. It looks stylish and steampunky and is it just me or does the woman look like Natalie Portman?
I so can’t wait for the new Cole book. I’m sooooooo happy she decided to make a spin off. Her world is so complex and compelling and I’m sure this book will rock. It’s a pretty cover BUT isn’t that the same dude from the Lothaire cover? Always forget his name. *hides in shame* I don’t like that. Yes he’s hot and all but well it is a different character so it shouldn’t be the same cover model.

Caro: Oh you like the deep-V shirt huh? *not judging* LOL Now that you mention it she DOES look like Natalie Portman !

Caro: Death’s Rival had to be mentioned today…I mean look at her POSE! O_o It’s just too ridiculous not to talk about it. Every time I see it online I end up giggling. My other problem is that the model doesn’t look like the one from the previous books in the series.
In the weird pose category we also have Allison Pang’s new book. She looks like she is suffering from the neck. Maybe we should advise her to change her pillow or something? lol The rest is Meh. Nothing really interesting for me on this cover.
The Space Between Us looks intimate and sensual. I like it BUT they look awfully young. At first I thought it was a YA book. Still I wish I had the same lips.

Susi: The woman on the Hunter cover looks like a zombie LOL. Well I’m sure it should show her when the beast part is in control (or whatever it was called). Looks weird and well zombi like. LOL
I so loved the first Pang cover and I don’t get why they chose to switch. Was it to save money? Looks weird and I don’t like the woman at all. Well I will still buy the book because I love the series but well pretty it is not.
A new Megan Hart boook. Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!! I so can’t wait. As you said, I too was shocked when I first saw it i was praying please don’t let it be YA, pretty please. But it isn’t so I will just be happy. The cover is very pretty but the couple looks young and this confuses me a bit. Also the style from her previous titles is completely different so it has me really curious. Can’t wait. *happy dance*

Caro: It’s funny because I’m not usually a fan of highlander historical covers. Mostly because all this tartan makes me nauseated. BUT I do like the new Maya Banks cover. There’s still way too much tartan cloths but the couple is so adorable I can get past my Tartan aversion 😉 Look at how her is touching her face…*happy sigh* And well LOL he’s also super HOT. Nom I want to like these muscles of his *g* 2 thumbs up. Sensual and in theme.
On the other hand we have the new Jennifer Ashley cover. LMAO Eeeeeeek I don’t like it at ALL. Let’s put halfnaked man in Kilt on the cover and say it’s enough. NO it’s not enough for me. It looks so bland. Also the ‘sunset’ effect on his body just doesn’t do it for me. Blergh is all I’ll say.
All the covers in Courtney Milan’s new series are very pretty but this one was worth mentioning because I love the model’s face. She looks so cute and mischievous. It’s simple but it works for me. I love her dress and how it’s the only colored element of the cover. Me likes!

Susi: Again I agree- I’m not much of a Scottish romance cover lover (say that really fast 3 times LOL). But I do like this one. They look all mussed up and in love. I like their skin-tone even though I think not many Scottish people at that time had such a tan. LOL Or maybe I’m wrong LOL.
The Ashley cover does nothing for me. Looks like they all do. His belt is weird and well do I wanna know why he’s shirtless? Probably not. LOL (yes I just complained about manchest on cover).
I do like the Milan cover. They are always so stylish and pretty and well just balanced. Simple as you said but totally charming. They really tempt me to try one even though I’m not a historical lover.

What do you think about our selection this week?
Do you mind if the same cover model is used for different characters in a series?
Any other new release that made your cover heart melt?
V neck shirt- yay or nay?

I did think the Hart cover was nice but then I saw it was Hart, and yup I thought it was YA too

    • pattepoilue June 26, 2012 at 1:45 am

Yeah first thing we did when we saw it was to go check the blurb to make sure it wasn’t YA =P I would still have read it but not so sure if Susi would have LOL

    • Susi June 26, 2012 at 2:45 am

Well it’s a Megan Hart book. I would have at least tried. LMAO

  • Mel S June 25, 2012 at 3:35 pm

I like the new Gail Carriger cover – her pose reminds me a little of the cover for Soulless but at the same time it’s different! 🙂

    • pattepoilue June 26, 2012 at 1:52 am

I did like cover of Soulless but this one is a hundred times better in my opinion. I like it so much I even think I’ll try to read it too 😉

    • Susi June 26, 2012 at 2:46 am

I agree with Caro. It looks neater and cleaner and with more style. And I’m so curious about the scissors now.

  • aurian June 25, 2012 at 3:46 pm

I think the guy on the Kresley Cole cover has a beard, or else he should wash his face. And is it really Paul Marron again?
I love Jennifer Ashley books, but this cover? His arm is inside his kilt? And where is his head? Do I need a bigger picture to see more? I just keep staring at it.

    • pattepoilue June 26, 2012 at 1:51 am

Bwahahahhah I searched for the ‘arm in his kilt’ and I can see that too know LMAO Bwhahahah
And yes the Cole guy is in great need of a bath I think lol

    • Susi June 26, 2012 at 2:47 am

I like the dude dirty. LOL I really don’t mind.

    • Sheree June 27, 2012 at 10:07 pm

That’s not Paul Marron. Too bad.

  • Susan June 25, 2012 at 4:39 pm

Wow. I agree with almost all of your comments. Some of these are real stinkers. (Speaking of which, that Pang model looks like she’s trying to pass gas–if I may be so indelicate.)

The Ashley cover is not appealing at all–for all the reasons you cited. I’m a huge Ashley fan. She deserves a better cover. And I’m just so over the decapitated look in general.

And what the heck did they do to Jane Yellowrock? Normally, Hunter’s covers show Jane looking tough and cool. On this one, she looks young and dorky. If she didn’t have that sword in her hand, I’d think she was in junior high playing dodge ball in the gym (wearing inappropriate gym attire).

The only thing I disagree with you on are the old Carriger/Parasol Protectorate covers. I liked them all. 🙂

    • pattepoilue June 26, 2012 at 1:55 am

LOL yes playing Dodge Ball! Or auditioning for a Micheal Jackson’s Thriller video.

    • Susi June 26, 2012 at 2:47 am

Indeed about the Ashley one. I do like guys with heads. 😉

    • draconismoi June 26, 2012 at 1:22 pm

She looks like she’s about to fall on her ass in the swamp. And while holding a sword. I see a potential for accidentally stabbing herself. Not very bad-ass.

  • Diane June 25, 2012 at 5:32 pm

I like the Kresley Cole and the Allison Pang covers.

    • pattepoilue June 26, 2012 at 1:56 am

Well the Cole one is growing on me. 😉

  • Sheree June 25, 2012 at 9:53 pm

The last Maya Banks Highlander trilogy had Paul Marron on all three (and Ewa da Cruz on two)! This time, it’s Theirry Pepin’s turn. He is very cute and one of my favorite models (although Paul Marron is still my utmost favorite). Every time I see Theirry Pepin, I smile.

    • pattepoilue June 26, 2012 at 1:49 am

*g* I knew we could count on you to know who was on these covers *g* I really really like this model on the new Maya cover.

      • Sheree June 26, 2012 at 2:39 am

Oops, I misspelled his name. He’s Thierry Pepin. I don’t know the name of the female model though.

    • Susi June 26, 2012 at 2:49 am

I was so waiting for you to tell us the names. It always makes me uhhh and ahhh that you actually know that. And that guy’s name is hot- no matter how you spell it 😀

  • LSUReader June 25, 2012 at 11:59 pm

I think the Carriger model looks like Winona Ryder, circa Edward Scissorhands. I agree about the Milan model–she does look like she’s got mischief in mind. The Hunter and Pang models should have gotten hazard pay for those poses. Ugh.

    • pattepoilue June 26, 2012 at 1:48 am

Ohhh yes she does look like Winona Ryder O_o i can’t believe I didn’t see that before.

    • Susi June 26, 2012 at 2:49 am

I’m still for the Portman woman. *pouts* LOL And the Milan one really looks like she’s planning something. Makes you hope to be on her good side.

  • Ren Puspita June 26, 2012 at 2:52 am

We often discuss about Paul Marron here and you two still forget his name? o__O. The model in Shadow’s Claim look like he has constipation.

What with Gail Carriger’s cover? She bring the scissor with her? Another new weapon perhaps, heheheh.
Agree with Ashley’s cover, look cheap :(. As for Kevin Hearne’s cover I love it too, but nay for V-Neck t-shirt

    • Susi June 26, 2012 at 3:06 am

      LMAO constipation. Bwahahah.
And well my head hangs in shame about Paul. 😉

    • draconismoi June 27, 2012 at 5:48 pm

Yeah, what is WITH the scissors? Is that supposed to be Prudence? I’d think she’d have more impressive weapons to rely on.
