Book Blurb:

Melbourne, 1929. The year starts off for glamorous private investigator Phryne Fisher with a rather trying heat wave and more mysteries than you could prod a parasol at. Simultaneously investigating the apparent suicide death of a man on St Kilda beach and trying to find a lost, illegitimate child who could be heir to a wealthy old woman’s fortune, Phryne needs all her wits about her, particularly when she has to tangle with a group of thoroughly unpleasant Bright Young Things. But Phryne Fisher is a force of nature, and takes in her elegant stride what might make others quail, including ghosts, Kif smokers, the threat of human …

Bookish Rants or Raves: It’s Raining Kick-Ass Men!?!?

I read a post on Wicked Little Pixie’s blog by the Queen B (you can check out the post  HERE) where she talks about Urban Fantasy, more specifically about the scarce number of Male protagonists in UF. She also mentions that the word on the grapevine is that, and I quote: “writers writing male leads in UF are not being picked up by publishers. Even if the stories are good. I couldn’t help but take advantage of my little bi-weekly feature and put on my two cents in this whole deal.

I have to admit that I am very ambivalent in this whole thing. On one side I am all for the Kick-Ass men of Urban Fantasy, bring on Dresden, Felix Castor, Simon Canderous and any …

Both of which, I enjoyed! The YA Lover: Hi there Jacquelyn, I hope you’re doing well…could you tell us a little bit about yourself, how you got into writing, and why you decided to go the self-publishing route?

JW: Hi Jenn! I’ve been a professional writer in software for 19 years, and I’ve written some children’s stories, poetry, and screenplays for fun. But when I got the idea for the Soterians series, I knew right away that it was going to be a series of five novels, and I knew that these stories were powerful enough that they had to go out in the world and not just sit on my desk. I queried a few …
