On the Book Lovers’ Shelves

Here at Book Lovers Inc., we claim to be “book lovers”. Now we’ve decided to back up those claims. We’re going to be showing off our book shelves at home to prove just how crazy adoring we are! I recently acquired two additional bookcases, so I volunteered to let you all have a peek at mine first (while they’re still relatively neat 🙂

This bookcase is in my bedroom. The top two shelves are dedicated to my review copies that I will be working on soon. Then there’s all of my Anne Rice books and various mystery/suspense books.

These are my two most recent additions. They sit on either side of the window in my kitchen. (Did I mention I live in an 840 sq. ft. apartment?) The left …

Genres 101: "It was a dark and stormy night…" (Today’s Lesson: Mystery)

As far back as I can remember, I have been a huge fan of mysteries. I mean, I always wanted to learn the rest of that story Snoopy wrote with the first line, “It was a dark and stormy night…” You just knew things were going to get good from there, right? From comics to novels, I quickly moved on in reading material but each year I still buy at least one book (ok, I’m grossly under estimating) that would be considered “Mystery”.

It’s easy to limit the category to that one title but mystery has many facets and seems to be growing in content as our world is changing. Examples of this type of novel appear in the early 1800’s but it is the master himself, the most familiar name, worldwide, that helped to …

Charley Davidson, Grim Reaper Extraordinaire, is back in this sexy, suspenseful novel of supernatural shenanigans

When Charley is rudely awakened in the middle of the night by her best friend who tells her to get dressed quickly and tosses clothes out of the closet at her, she can’t help but wonder what Cookie’s up to. Leather scrunch boots with a floral miniskirt? Together? Seriously? Cookie explains that a friend of hers named Mimi disappeared five days earlier and that she just got a text from her setting up a meet at a coffee shop downtown. They show up at the coffee shop, but no Mimi. But Charley finds a message on the bathroom wall. Mimi left a clue, a woman’s name. Mimi’s husband explains that his wife had been acting strange since …

The Good, the Bad and the Are-You-Kidding-Me?

Welcome back! This week we’ve decided to try and take a look at Italian covers. We thought the covers would reflect Italy’s beauty but we were sadly a bit disappointed. Instead of eternal beauty and timelessness we found clichés and well…you will see for yourself. Be sure to let us know what you think about our selections.

Caro: O_O Well first I don’t find the cut out faces to be very attractive in the first place but if you add the weird “hey my make-up is running” part it’s just plain weird.

I like the Nalini cover. The wings are for once original. It’s simple but good. (also i have a secret thing for curly-longish hair on a man) <==that’s a man right? …

Winner Announcement – The Home Alone Edition

Hey Everyone!

You might know that I have two younger sisters so the house is always full and there is never one moment of peace. Which I love, the loud buzzing nonstop chatter is what I am used to, but sometimes a little calm would be great. So when by some kind of miracle I have the house to myself even for a couple of hours I want to make the most of it by soaking up the silence :-p And by some kind of cosmic stroke of luck both my two sisters and parents left for the whole weekend, so I was home alone for almost 2 days! (well almost, because I had some friends over on Saturday) *contented sigh* The small pleasures of life 😀

So when I am writing this post the sun just came up, and I’ll be soon on my way out to have breakfast by …

Around the Bookish World: News Week-in-Review

This week’s news post is a bit quiet but there aresome interesting developments concerning Agency pricing and Amazon may have found a way to sidestep Apple’s new rules on their apps.

First up, along with Anti-trust investigations about Agency pricing, a lawsuit has been filed that it was only a matter of time before one would be instigated. Law firm Hagens and Berman have filed a suit that major publishers such as Simon & Schuster, Penguin, Hachette, HarperCollins and Macmillan as well as Apple have conspired to boost up profits and to undermine Amazon as well breaking anti-trust laws. Whether this can be proven is another matter but I do think it is an interesting development.

This sorts of leads to the fact that Amazon has launched a HTML 5 Web App for their Kindle store which sides-step Apple’s …
